I hate to say it, but the rather poor paint job is distracting me from the actual sculpts. As the painting is a bit amaturish its making the models look the same. :-(

Um...I mean this as the most constructive criticism I can make but, these minis don't look quite ready. They need quite a lot of polishing. Also, it wouldn't hurt to find a better painter.

Also, I'm not really following why "Flagship China" doesn't appear to have a single relevant connection to any aspect of Chinese culture apart from the name and the flag. Surely if in your hypothetical future the Chinese people have been enslaved by orks, the faction would be called orks and would adopt orkish heraldry.

Why does Canada have a Battletoad on their side?

Hate to be a meanie, but you guys really should invest in a professional sculptor and painter, as well as a professional artist. What you guys have now is amateurish at best, and you're gonna have a heck of a hard time getting anybody to bite. Also, the factions just don't make sense - the Chinese get orks and a weird flying head with fangs, the Mexicans get Bane, and the Canadians have some weird almost-Hulk and an Assassins Creed assassin

Sorry to be so harsh, but the #1 rule of crowdfunding is that you need to be professional, or at least have the appearance thereof. Still, who knows, you just might get that $5,000. Stranger things have happened.

~Tim?

P.S. Oh, and you need to proofread. That misuse of "it's" is giving me a headache.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

The models and paint jobs are not quite there yet but with improvements throughout the kickstarter we hope to showcase a closer version of what to expect if our game is successful. Right now we are sanding and working with epoxy putty to improve our models after we strip their paint from our presentation.

@ JOHIRA

Most of China was destroyed and used for parts in the New Orc invasion but the Orcs still use China's name as an avatar of communication to other nations.

Because of Sweden's diplomatic missions with xenos some species have decided to assist particular nations.

There needs to be a more unified style to bring everything together. Without it, pulling various influences from movies and other games feel like copying, instead of paying homage to.

Currently it feels like a designer took all the miniatures he/she had and made a game around them.

This does look like the minis needed more time in concept development. Even ignoring the quality of the sculpts, aside from the American faction there is no real unifying aesthetic within the factions. It's just a collection of random minis.

The consistent mis-use of 'it's' suggests a little more time needed proof-reading your promotional stuff as well. Kickstarter can be a fickle place, and you need to present as professional a front as possible.

Good luck with it, though.

You are correct,

Thanks for all the feedback everyone, we made some edits in hopes of clearing up some confusion. We will be updating the kickstarter with more model pictures shortly.

I'm not seeing continuity in the sculpts / models for each faction here :-/. Doesn't mean it can't have potential for the future, though.

Well, it certainly looks very characterful! Agree with some of the other comments above about it being a bit un-focused, although I'm definitely getting a tongue-in-cheek vibe and sense of humour from it which would help explain that.

Is this a seriously a thing? For a board game, a $5,000 goal seems pretty... weak. It doesn't help that the sculpts look like a freshman in high school did them during art class, either. I ain't touching this with a 10' pole.

Well, this is the last KS attempt: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1822630877/escape-from-new-ork-city

And this is the cancellation announcement:

Hi everyone, I would like to thank you for the tremendous support and feedback throughout our Kickstarter campaign.

Unfortunately our campaign's funding goal will not be reached for various reasons. At the start, most viewers were confused about the contents included in our game and international consumers were turned off by our shipping prices. We did not make our Kickstarter as comprehensive as we thought and lost valuable time trying to correct these mistakes.

The biggest reason we did not get funded was the quality of our models. During our research we realized Kickstarter backers want to see the closest they can to a finished product. With constant changes and improvements, many images in our video did not reflect the current state of our miniatures or board game.

In a few days or weeks, we will relaunch our game with more 360 degree videos of new and improved miniatures, a full gameplay video, a lower funding goal, and more efficient promotion and advertising of our Kickstarter campaign.

Massive appreciation and gratitude to all the backers that supported our campaign, we hope you support us again in the future!

Live long and prosper,

- Allen

That doesn't seem to have actually happened...as these are all exactly the same models. Which it seems they will be hand casting with "Smooth-On rubber liquid and cast with Liquid 300 resin." So...yeah.
Also...the grass mat as part of the $9,000 stretch....

Oh wait...China is now New Orc City! Dynamic world growth!

And obviously the Italian assassin Ezio is working for Canada. Good job on the ripping off.

8000 points of XI Legion the Space Vagabonds, they can adapt their tactics to represent any and every Legion and Chapter as needed because they were created by the Emperor to be the ultimate tactical power. They have faked their disappearance in order to infiltrate every part of the conflicts in the galaxy.

8000 points of Tau/Craftworld Eldar/Necron because the Space Vagabonds can also emulate their wargear and tactics.

Victories: ALL
Losses: NONE (My armies have the psychic ability to conjure a cataclysmic storm whenever they are about to lose. This allows the Space Vagabonds to teleport away while releasing power waves that destroys the battlefield and so every battle is a victory)

Doctor Who and Alphonse Elric in Sweden of all places.

Moon of Termina, Orc Walter White (just paint the fether green?), and Cable in New Orc City.

And it all looks like... well, just look at those pictures.

I haven't laughed this hard in a while. The KS is good for that at least.

OP, by god mount the aircraft on a flying base. That'll honestly make a hell of a difference

I mean, I'm not going to buy it, but it's quite cute. Hopefully you can improve on the sculpts with time.

Absolutely. I made 'miniatures' of LOTR Orcs out of plasticene when I was 8, before I'd even heard of gaming. This touches on that 'just want to play a fun game with something awesome' nerve.

Unfortunately the rest of this smacks of either delusional ignorance of the costs involved in creating what they are proposing, or a scam.

Their previous, unsuccessful Kickstarter looks considerably more coherent than this one does, and interestingly uses a lot of the same materials. That makes this pretty suspect by itself.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1822630877/escape-from-new-ork-city?ref=users

As for the professionalism thing, yep, this looks distinctly amateurish, but I think people have gotten a bit too used to seeing mostly very high-quality fully developed products from well-established companies on Kickstarter, who perhaps shouldn't be looking for crowdfunding in the first place. That we're this happy to accept all the risk on behalf of companies for no return other than a product we'd otherwise have simply bought is a bit weird. (This is coming from someone who's backed various kickstarters).

Personally, I think people who haven't got it totally together yet and are more of an outside bet are more deserving of crowdfunding, rather than less.

My problem is New Orc City looked a bit more cohesive than this does. At least all the homages seemed to just be all in the good fun of orciness.

I feel like there's just too much going on- you've got mecha, you've got all sorts of machinery and aircraft, and then you've got humanoid skirmish style stuff. This was a problem I had with New Orc City too.

Maybe try to not focus so much on the everything and the kitchen sink style approach. You've got pieces there that would work quite nicely in a tabletop war game. Go with that. Nothing wrong with a game of war crazed orc machines demolishing cities and burning down the countryside.

Or have you considered just offering up some of your sculpts in a Kickstarter? You've got all those quirky orc pop culture homages- go with those maybe to build up a presence on Kickstarter. Pick your best four or five, offer them up at a reasonable price, and build from there maybe?

I'd say get your game or figures distilled into one core focus. I think you're trying to accomplish too much here.

The paint jobs are probably not going to sell anyone on here either. It might be a better idea to leave the figures in a grey primed state so the details are more apparent.

Also, don't be afraid to hit up places like Board Game Geek to get some rules help and tightening!

At the very least, I'll continue keeping tabs on things.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Im not sure what to say about this one, but ill be discussing it with a mate in our next podcast anyway so:

I like the vibe/feel of it. It has a quirkiness that as Bull0 said has a certain charm.

That said the actual execution is remarkably amateurish. The sculpts certainly do nothing for me and as for the paintjob... YEGODS! lose those bright green bases lest my eyes dissolve!

Whilst obviously not to scale, the size difference between the minis is jarring to say the least and the whole thing looks like what i would expect a student to bring in if the project was 'design a boardgame'

I cant see this effort being funded either on the basis of what is shown but hey, come back with more thought into the minis and better paintjobs and maybe it will be third time lucky...

A friend of mine made sculpy gnomes for our wargaming back in the day. It was a home brew set of rules, and we were like 14. I can see the charm in that. However, the models in this are just as well sculpted as those gnomes, and nowhere nearly as coherent a fighting force. Those models were sculpted because we were teenagers with no money, and nobody was being charged for them. The multitude of pop culture characters just kind of thrown in there haphazardly doesn't help.

Not trying to troll here but does your company include any members who have ever sculpted a miniature, painted a miniature, or played a miniature wargame? I can say no positive things about this kickstarter, in my view every aspect of your project from names to story to sculpts painting style and consistency need complete makeovers.
