Ultra's, they don't yust take a planet they make it prosper.

A planet like that is much more valuable to the imperium thenn the stuff The space wolfs or World eaters leave behind.

Aka rebelious rubble and a thinned out population.

I think OP means Chapters post-Heresy. And technically he's right. The Legions Infernal are not technically Chapters. They were Legions. Bigger and better is the difference.

That said...ugh......which Loyalist does their job the best? Do I have to pick?

nnnnnggggghh- that one. Which ever one I pointed at. They're the best. lol

Pre-Heresy Legions though? Night Lords are the best at their job, which is scaring the sh!t out of people. lol The reason why I say they are the best is because they are so good at being scary, that sometimes they scare themselves when the fear of their enemies threatens to drag them down with the rest of the crew. See: The Masters, Bidding - Treacheries of the Space Marine.

Really, I'd say all of the Cult Legions are great at their job (Plague Marines are good at being gross. Noise Marines play good music. etc). but tactics wise, the next three honorable mentions (not nec. in order) are Alpha Legion for successfully trolling the Inquisition and all of their many facets, the Word Bearers for being able to drum entire civilizations against their loyalist masters (no matter the species apparently) and the Iron Warriors for their troll tactics against armies having to actually defend themselves.

But the chapters at the top were legions too.
The 2nd founding was where they all got split into chapters. That list is a little bigger though...

The Space Wolves are fun, but they have very limited application to the Imperium. They also have caused the Imperium no end of problems.

Ultramarines, though... that's the Chapter that's doing it right.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Obviously I'm biased on this as I voted for Blood Angels. In saying that this question is all down to the person answering it and their personal taste.

A Space Marines job is to defend the citizens of the IoM so it has got to be salamanders Vulkan was known for his empathy for humans and dante said that captain Tu'Shan is what every space marine should aspire to be like after the battle for hive tempestora iirc and they wont bomb refugee camps for the sake of it.

sallies all the way

"Into the fires of battle unto the anvil of war."
War-cry of the salamanders
"Vulkans fire beats in my breast with it I shall smite the foes of the Emperor."
war-cry of the firedrakes and chapter command

Who the hell is voting for the Imperial Fists? I'd even put Space Wolves ahead of them.

A Legion that did nothing but warm the bench at Terra during the later days of the Great Crusade and the insane primarch who lost every notable fight he was ever involved in...except the one he died in.

If your question was "Who is the most fearsome?" or "Which is your favorite?" or something else, my answer might have been drastically different. But strictly in a mechanical, tactical fashion, looking only at resources expended and results achieved, Ultramarines are the only reasonable answer.

Even though they're aren't my favorites; I can agree with this. They just seem to do well on all fronts. We fight, we win, we administer. Also; I'd much rather live in ultramar than anywhere else in the imperium.

Except for the sallies, everyone else seems to be just focused on the battle/war. The ultras are in the long game.

In later years there is still debate over the exact words uttered, but all agree that it was indeed foolhardly to question an astartes on why his chapter was good enough for raiden to join. Local arbites long ago gave up looking for the missing head, recording an offiical verdict that the stain halfway up the northside hab-block was likely caused by the head impacting at high velocity.

Chapters, not legions.

And the obvious answer is the Ultramarines. "The greatest of all Space Marine chapters". Two hive fleets stopped.

You might even say they wrote the book on being a Space Marine.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?
