I don't think fielding 2 of any unit is Spam. In fact I almost always have backups, or redundancy built in. I do consider running 3+ of anything to be Spam, especially if it mean taking the minimum of other units to do it.

For example, I run Eldar and run 2 Waveserpernt, or 2 unit of Jetbikes, or 2 WraithKnights, but I never run 3 or more of any of those. Most of my Daemon list could be split in half and almost mirror each other with 2 Soulgrinder, 2 units of Horror, 2 of Nurglings, 2 small units of Screamers, etc. I consider this redundancy, not Spam

However, the 'spamiest' list I have ever run was:

1 Necron Overlord
4 minimum units of Immortals, each with the Haywire staff Cryptek, in 4 Night Scythes
2 units of 6 Wraiths
3 A-barges

This was in 6th ed, though

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Once played against a list of 3 Land Speeders with Scouts, 2 Storm Ravens with a super Chapter Master and Command Squad and another Command Squad, and 3 Storm Talons. All Iron Hands with IWND and I swear his dice were loaded.

I had a Quad Gun and a Nephilim in terms of AA. It was awful.

That's kind of the other sides problem. 1 land raider would prove difficult for lists with only 1 lascannon equivalent.

I play IG. Spam isn't even something you decide to do, it's the innate nature of designing any IG army list.
I mean come on, we have squadrons designed to better spam the same unit without using more FOC slots.

im planning on running this new Vraks heretics list sometime using the endless horde (?) detachment. This way my troops get to come back on a 2+ and outflank, and they give people behind them a 3+ cover.

Demagogue, disciples x 9 + master of hordes w/ lascannon

20 man infantry squad w/ champion, krak, militia training, 3 meltas, vox, and melta bombs X 8 (2 will be the demagogue PCS)

3 Hellhounds (not sure why, just figured it would be fun and the only fast unit i can get a hold of)

2 demolishers

I figure on there be so many bodies coming on the board that my opponents will simply drown in bodies. Plus with miltia training and krark they are pretty versatile and serve as a halfway decent DKoK themed assault brigade.

I can't agree with most peoples definition of spam. To me, taking multiple tac squads or rhinos is not spam. Or even dreadnaughts.

Spam is when you field lots of overpowered bull$#iT. So your list has 2 wave serpants and 2 wraith nights so that is 4 overpowered bull$#iT models. Which isn't that bad for an Eldar army, but would still be spam to some.

3 Imperial knights is spam, riptides, the whole Necron codex....you get the idea!

My list since 3rd has been "How many Leman Russes can I put in a list, up to 10" because 10 was a full-sized Russ company.

Now, it's "How many baneblades can I fit in a list" up to 3, because 3 is a full-sized company.

Does running 2x10man Dev squads on top of 3x10man Tacs make it more spam than just the Tacs alone? If not, I'm in the same boat as Smidge.

What about running a Serpent, a Falcon, a Fire Prism, a Hornet, and a Vyper all in the same list. Is that Skimmer Spam?

Nah it was back in 6th edition. So I had to have cheap other units.
It's funny because the CHEESY player said he wanted to have a friendly game. So I did that because... Just because really. It worked out because he took Illic Nightspear(eldar sniper HQ) and a ton of eldar pathfinders. So he actually won. And the Rvarna killed itself without being shot at. 3+ riptides and the list will be garbage.

I have so many because I play a lot of apoc. I can do more now with unbound and Rvarna and Y'varha, but I'm too into my Dark Eldar now.

Maybe I'll do an entire army of Talos Pain Engines with ichor injector and heatlances/ splinter canons.

I play 2 lists, one has 6 drop pods and the other has 6 wave serpents. I would say they both qualify as spam. I play in a competitive meta where lance formation, 3-5 Flyrants, 3 riptides, buffmander and crisis suits, daemon factory, etc are the common lists.

'Spam' is a brand of canned ham. That or repetition. Spam in and of itself isn't the problem, the problem is skew. If I bring a list with a Valkyrie, a Vendetta, a Vulture, a Thunderbolt, an Avenger, a Marauder, an Aquila, a Lightning, and an Arvus I have not chosen to spam any one thing, but I have chosen a list skewed dramatically in one direction such that you need a lot of one kind of weapon to fight it. Skew lists are, if I were to oversimplify for the sake of analogy, playing only rock in a game of rock-paper-scissors. If the other guy's brought a lot of paper he's fine, but if he brought some scissors and some rock because he was figuring on a generalist take-all-comers approach he's kind of screwed because he can't fight my giant flying fleet of rocks. Skew is playing a list where you've stacked your targets to make TAC lists irrelevant, spam is a route to skew.

(The spammiest list I've ever played was probably three Elysian squads and a Command Squad in Valkyries, a Vulture, and a Vindicare)

On topic: I agree with AnomanderRake. A ton of guardsmen doesn't annoy me but the concept of bringing two, let alone three knights to a game makes me sad.

Skewiest thing I ever brought was a full-on 4 herald Screamerstar because I heard about it and wanted to see it in action.

Spam is like pornography- we know it when we see it.

The minimum Drop Pod buy-in locally is 3, any less in your list and you're considered an amateur who has no idea what they're doing. When two 9-pod armies go head to head it makes a Mystical Drop Pd Forest, with bewildered Marines shuffling between them in single file. Beautiful sight.
