Hey all, I'm conducting a bit of "market research" and looking to get input on what people think of as the strongest units in 40k. If you can, please fill out the survey linked here.

I'm intentionally leaving this open to interpretation. Would really appreciate the feedback, and thanks in advance!

I can sate your curiosity a bit and tell you that scatbikes, wraithknights and possibly necron wraiths too will be on the list.

Its a bit hard to pick the best 'units' when most units that are good, are good because they stack buffs/abilities from 5 different sources.

Eg, Grav Centurions on their own, a bit meh. Grav Centurions + Drop Pod / Tiggy / Draigo / etc... ridiculous.

I did! After suffering through multiple editions of bottom tier codexes, you have no idea how happy it made me to realize that Black Knights are a pretty reasonable pick here. If I had thought about this a bit more I might have nominated something else, because BKs just by themselves aren't all that insanely OP. The RW Command Squad with a bunch of Independent Characters from different armies has the potential of being game-breaking, even to the point of making Dboy cri evri tiem. If this survey had been about unit combos within a codex, I would have nominated RWCS + Darkshroud for sure, 2+ rerollable jinks are pretty tasty.

Yeah, and if I were the Emperor of Mankind, I would just build an army of Warlord Titans with grav centurions duct taped around the legs I mean, really, what is the point of a billion times a billion legions of Imperial Guard, when they are just going to be crushed by Titans?

Wouldn't your CS only have a 3++ rerollable?

The Darkshroud has stealth and shroud so gets a 2++ cover save, but your command squad only gets stealth so it gets a 3++ cover save.

I think, unless the command squad has a better jink than a normal bike squad.

Flyrants really aren't powerful... they just seem that way because everything else a Tyranid fields is weak. It's the natural way their codex is designed for their big synapse guys to be the backbone of the army.

Wraithknights
Riptides
Wraithguard
Gravcents (or can we pick Grav-anything as a unit?)
Scatbikes

It's called a thick skin. The Jersey born have it innately.

Not sure about that - they arent all synapse. Board control, hard to hit/kill, 10+ shots hitting on average, good in hth, psychic powers, flexible and manouverable.

I'd rate them way above WG anyways but opinions will always vary

Very little AP on guns, no invulnerable saves, average cover save, not as great in close combat as Daemon Princes or Walkers (and usually flying anyway, else it's easy to shoot to death), vulnerable to Instant Death, TERRIBLE psychic powers, high point cost.

The D-strength weapons can one-shot it sadly because it's not a Gargantuan Wraithknight, even though it's almost priced as one. It costs 230 pts with just wings and two twin-linked devourers, but if given regen (30pts) and a gland or grubs, or just Hive Commander/Artifact, it can quickly reach 285+.

Personally I think it doesn't murder things well enough for that price. It might be scary vs Orks but it's only taking out 2-3 MEQs a turn, assuming they don't have skyfire or a flyer of their own to shoot it out of the sky. I usually drop them with a Heldrake's vector strike because I have an invuln and they don't.

Volume of fire.
Jink + able to hide behind cover (as opposed to more "mega units"),
3+ is sadly Nid standard so we suck it,
ws9, i6, 5 attacks + MC abilities isnt too shabby,
granted VS ID,
psychic powers can be situational but very good (onslaught algha strike, PS),
granted expensive.

Anyway, we could debate all night, they arent super uber faceroll top but.....its the Nids codex.....so
