We've had threads about the best/worst moments in game, the most powerful/weak units, and moments that defy statistics.

How about a thread of the battles that, at the start, looked like a fair fight but turned into a straight up curb-stomp.

Mine was a battle involving my Emperor's Champion (yes, I know, I bring him up a lot) and a unit of Crusaders vs 5 hammernators and a buffed-up Librarian (he had some homebrew rules attached that gave him an Inv save and a Str 6 Ap 3 staff).

I started a fair bit away from the libby and hammernators, and expected to get psychic'd to death. For the first two turns, my black tide ran up through terrain and passed all DtW rolls they were required to make, but allowed the libby to get off Invisibility. On T3, they charged the hammernators, and the EC challenged out the sergeant. Sergeant fails to get past the EC's 4++, and gets thoroughly shanked. The other hammernators lose two more wounds to the crusaders, and take out almost half the crusaders.

Librarian whiffs.

Next round, EC Challenges the librarian, causes instant death on his first blow, and knocks out both the remaining Terminators.

I lost about 5/6 dudes.

Most of them neophytes.

5 hammernators and a jacked-up librarian.

Mine was probably losing x3 characters in quick succession. Company master, champion and a sarge all butchered by my brother's Chaos Lord. He then attained Apotheosis and became a Daemon Prince.

Once had a group of 4 ravenwing bikers get swarmed by 25-30 cultists the bikers killed about 2 cultists turn 1 and made about 15 armour saves on the cultists and then proceeded to kill 4 every turn and not lose a single bike. probably the closest ive ever been to flipping the table and setting my dice models and maybe even my opponent on fire haha, it was a fun game but just couldn't believe how many saves were mad.

I was running my 'Crons list against a Renegades and Heretics nurgle list a week or so back. Long story short, I end up with an Immortal and Zanny Boy facing down a Baneblade. Demolisher cannon fires, direct hit. Roll RPs. The Immortal passes. Zanny proceeds to throw a 1 on the LoS!, a 2 on the Phase shifter and then a 1 on the RP.

I like to think the Immortal got tired of Zan's inane ramblings, began to warn him about the shot before being interrupted by "Back in my day", and decided to just hit the deck, letting the Nemesor eat a Demolisher shell to the face. The mental image of Zanny flying back while the Immortal just lies there Loony Tunes style is pretty priceless IMO.

Had a game against my friend's Space Wolves. Had my Flesh Hounds tie up his TWC and charged in with my Daemon Prince. He fails some of his Invuln saves, and then makes 3 6+ FNPs (he had 2 TWC left at this point, one with one wound).

He then proceeds to cause a couple wounds, which triggers Daemonic Instability. My tooled up Daemon Prince then fails and gets sucked back into the Warp, causing me to lose the rest of the match.

My IG Company Commander, who is equipped with the Deathmask of Ollanius Pius, a Power Sword and Plasma Pistol, Carapace Armour and Camo Cloak....

fought and killed in single combat, a Raven Guard Chapter Tactics Space Marine Chapter Master equipped with power sword, storm shield and jump pack.

He survived the Hammer of Wrath hit and then proceeded to slowly chop the Chapter Master to death over the next 3 rounds. In the end, he had defeated the Chapter Master having taken only 1 wound in the process.

It was sooooo glorious. For such a great achievement, I decided to give my Company Comander a Power Axe.

The biggest one I had was a few months ago, when skyhammer came out and I didn't know it existed. My opponent told me he plays marines, I deployed my IG and he said he has everything in drop pods. Turn one he blew up 3 out of 4 chimeras charged 2 out of 3 of my vet squads . all my units that could forced to go to the ground did so. So on turn 2 I was left with 2 russes both on 1HP, and a valk in reservs and he lost some bolter devs and a grav centurion.

I played a doubles game a while ago where I assaulted a Riptide with about 3 Chaos Cultists. The champion was left after the first turn of combat and then proceeded to bring it down to 1 wound over the course of several turns before finally getting stepped on. The amount of 1's that guy rolled made ME look like a lucky guy.

It was rather amusing

I was playing with my friend's eldar army, did a bad infiltrate with a big group of scorpions that ended up causing me to have to charge into difficult terrain. I charged a strong group of bloodclaws, who rolled amazingly well and caused 25 wounds. I saved 23.

I then murdered the blood claws and took karandras to the central objective to claim victory after killing some other models. It looked like my deathstar was toast, but they won me the game with their armour.

Oh, Where to begin...

I had 2 vindicators in my list during a game against a prince heavy chaos list. Turn 1 I shoot both princes, and both times roll a 1 for wound. Turn 2 I do the same, turn 2 they both fail. Turn three ONE managed to get an Instant Death dealing wound, but he passes on a 6+ invuln.

Next unit to shoot was my Autocannon Dread, who managed to kill the prince, by himself, with just one round of shooting.

"These Young ones can't seem to hurt a darn thing."

Another game was a really rare zone mortalis game against a sons of horus army using my dark angels. I managed to get a full sized squad of fully kitted out legion space marines into combat with my Deathwing knights and Mace of Redemption Chaplain, plus a single tactical marine. The knights won the combat for me, and he failed. The 13 man Legion space marines (30k marines can get run down) plus a praetor, plus an apothicary all got ran down by a lone tactical marine. Needless to say he got upgraded.

Another one I had was an eldar warlord with the re-roll 1's warlord trait and 2+ armor, was the last model left one the table for my opponent, and for three whole turns my imperial knight chased it around trying to charge him and kill him until finally my TFC tech marine used his plasma cutter to deal the final wound. Probably the funniest thing to imagine playing yakkaty sax to.

My Medusa wants to shoot at my opponent's CSM HQ/sergeant (I forget which), but my HQ (a CCS with all of the meatshields dead) is too close to put the template down legally. So I sigh and take a shot at another squad nearby. The shot scatters right between our HQs, hitting both. I roll a 1 to wound his. He rolls a 1 to wound mine. Next turn, he charges. I fire overwatch and roll a 1 for my plasma pistol, taking my HQ's last wound. He rolls a 1 for his demon weapon, taking his last wound. The only way I can imagine to explain this fluff-wise is that the near-miss from friendly fire combined with the terrifying enemy caused my HQ to commit suicide with his own plasma pistol and at least make it quick and painless, and then his HQ's demon weapon was so enraged at the loss of the chance to get the kill that it turned its bloodlust on its bearer.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

At first glance, this entire game

Spoiler:
I say at first because I did, obviously, get tabled. It was a fun game though, drones did some scary things (especially to that annihilation barge's annihilated barge)

There was also that one Apoc match in 5th. A Daemons guy was using a FW Bloodthirster character, I don't remember its name but it was the one that forced models within a certain range to assault it. It landed next 2 or 3 full squads of my fire warriors and after my turn at assault it was beaten down to something around 1 or 2 wounds. I obviously lost combat but it still almost spooked him

I think I have the mother of these.

We're playing some kill team league. My list is a bunch of jump pack assault marines. His is dark eldar. 10 warriors in a raider.
We roll up a custom league mission where you need to get more models off the enemy board edge than the opponent. You can leave the board in any phase.

I instantly realize that my chances to win against a transport that can go 30" in a turn have dropped to something ludicrously small. Well whatever, looks like he gets an easy win in the league. It's not like this'll take long.

I advance and spread out some on my turn.
He hops to 29ish inches away from my board edge over on a flank in his turn.
My turn 2, I get 3 guys to jump barely into charge range. Only one makes the charge successfully.
Krak grenade. Hit. 5+ to pen. Pens. 6 result +1 for open topped. Explodes. 6 warriors inside die. The other 4 all get pinned.
The other assault marines proceed to descend upon them like piranha. Flawless victory!

A shadowsword fires on the lead knight of an Adamantium Lance.

The volcano cannon shot scatters back, clipping back-right as well.

The front guy takes a "6" and explodes instantly. The catastrophic explosion scatters back onto back-left, and kills him with a second horrific destroyer hit. Finally, the back-right takes his hit, and doesn't get an invulnerable save reroll thanks to there being no other knights left within 3" - one bad solid hit and explodes result later and he brews up as well.

My friend had a decent sized squad of Flesh Hounds get annihilated in close combat... by a squad of Fire Warriors. It was his first time using them, and he was convinced he'd done something wrong. So I had him explain EVERYTHING about the combat and shooting/movement leading up to it in detail to me and nope, he did everything right, he was just THAT unlucky.
