Subject: VOTE For the Winner of the 16th Unofficial Painting Challenge: Mighty Heroes and Nefarious Villains!
Time to vote for the winners of last month's painting challenge! The theme of heroes and villains attracted a lot of excellent entries, and now's your chance to pick out your favourites! You should vote on whatever qualities you like, be that the paintjob itself, the interpretation of the theme, the techniques on display, the effort involved or any other reason that causes the entry to catch your eye. As we have a huge number of entries this month, please do cast as many votes as you like, I usually recommend 3-5 but even I will be using several more this time around, as it's been one of the strongest months yet!
Without further ado, the entrants:

Subject: VOTE For the Winner of the 16th Unofficial Painting Challenge: Mighty Heroes and Nefarious Villains!
Great work everyone. Managed to get mine down to 10 votes.
@ssisal: Enjoyed our HeroQuest-off. Glad you painting yours encouraged me to paint all four of mine.
@Kleggt: Loving the little grot!
@queen_annes_revenge: No greater hero than the Spitfire. Great job! Love it!
@jah-joshua: Troll on a polar bear - what's not to love!
@feltmonkey: Great joker. The face detail is amazing.
Votes for @Zach, @ZoBo, @SoldierOfFortune, @Paradigm and @Bottle as well.
Dark Angels/Deathwing - just getting started!
Space Marines - Stark Crusaders 4500pts/PL244 (2700pts painted)
Eldar - Biel Tan 2000pts
Space Wolves 1500pts
Wow, I knew there was a lot of good stuff this month, but I didn't realise how packed the top drawer was going to be!
Ended up voting for quite a few (10ish), but special mention to Zach and Feltmonkey; the Bloodthirster is damn near perfect in both concept and execution IMHO, from the glow on the wings to the gore on the base. As for the Joker, it's so much harder to make art look like a specific individual, rather than a generic person, and you absolutely nailed it. So much so, that I'm now wondering if you conducted some kind of voodoo ceremony to capture Heath Ledgers soul into a miniature!

Thanks Jadenim, and Whittlesey. I did the face last out of everything, and I don't think I've ever been so nervous painting anything. Not particularly because of the competition, but because I wanted to do the miniature justice, and in my head I was paying tribute to Ledger's amazing performance. It's nice to hear that people think I did a decent job.
How I did it was to paint the face completely in skintones first, and then add the makup over the top. This obscured the work I had done on the face to an extent, but meant that I could leave some of the skin showing through, as if the makeup has been rubbed off. Then doing the black around the eyes took an afternoon...
Anyway, congratulations to everyone who took part this month. What an amazing collection of paintjobs and modeling work! I think everyone can be proud of themselves, the standard is really high. Januine's moody Nurse piece, Jar-Joshua's wonderfully clean and beautifully blended ork (troll?) and polar bear, Tatt2014's large-scale Space Marine - brilliant heroic pose, and the freehand is exquisite. Plus so many more. I really like queen_annes_revenge's Spitfire, and Midget Gems' eyecatching ork, and Melcavuk's Stormcast, and Gunhazard's trickster, and ckig's Magneto, and...

Well, this time around I couldn't pare it down to less than 10 votes. Here's who I voted for:
Moolet: Those Death Company are very well done!
Zach: That Bloodthirster blew mine out of the water. Awesome job!
Kustomer D: Your Warboss is really great. The best parts are all the little details like the fuzzy dice!
Jadenim: That Tau commander's color scheme is great! Kinda looks like a Protoss or something; was that your intent? If so, awesome! If not, still awesome!
queen-annes-revenge: That Spitfire is very well done, and fits the theme as a hero since it is what won the Battle of Britain!
Bottle: I must admit I don't know much about the characters from Necromunda, but yours looks like an ultimate badass!
jah-joshua: That mini looks like it belongs in World of Warcraft or something! Awesome concept, flawlessly executed!
feltmonkey: That looks just like a shrunken Heath Ledger! Really well done!
Knightley: There are no words...
Paradigm: Tony Stark couldn't have done it better himself! I love that mini!
Special shout out to ChaosDadJr for joining us in this wonderful hobby, and to ChaosDad for helping him! Also a big thank you to Paradigm for running this contest. I sure feel like I pushed my skills to the max with my entry this month, and you, sir, made it possible!
My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.

Hi all. Thanks for whoever voted for me. It was a tough field this time... Had a lot of trouble narrowing it down to 10 votes - many great entries all around.
Special shout outs:
Bottle: Great job on the ratskin. This was one of my favourites from this month. Always great to see old models given some love.
Queen Anne's Revenge: Cracking job on the spitfire!
Feltmonkey: Want to echo everyone's praise on capturing the spirit of Ledger's Joker. Well done!

I voted for Knightley and Whitlsey - love the little retro heroquest guys! And Knightley I love that chapter master - one of the best miniatures I think you've ever produced.
@ZergSmasher, thanks! I can assure you that the resemblance is entirely unintentional, but I can see where your coming from. I stumbled across the colour palette and I really love the clean lines it gives (if you get the right angle they almost look like a 2D illustration!). I do NOT love the three-four coats and endless touching up of edges required to get there...

Evening all and to all a good evening Whoever imvented humidity needs a swift kick in the gakkleberries >< Sticky horrible nonsense over here at the mo.
Annnyywaay - some awesome entries this month (as there is every month tbt) - Heroes and Villains, and nice to see such a cracking variety of the same from a wide range of ....will....ranges!
Hadn't a chance in hell of narrowing it down to 5 or so, so I just went with I liked best and fitted the theme.
In brief, Zach, Gohkm, keezus, q-a-r, Bottle, ckig, ChaosDad, melcavuk, jah, tatt, feltmonkey & Para were my favs this month - getting it narrowed down to just....12....was a task and took me the better part of an hour earlier.
Great stuff one and all and see you all for The Beast
So uh...Bloodthirster is getting more votes than I expected, and I normally dont self promote, but he was painted for my St. Jude's Children's Hospital Charity army and that raffle still has 13 more days left to go.
Every $5 donation gets you a ticket to win him and an entire Chaos Daemon Army, so if he got your vote maybe send some love towards St. Judes.
I have had such a hard time voting! I tried to go for a top 3 but couldn't narrow it down past 6:
gohkm - fantastic turquoise armour, nice blood effect and great use of Eldar symbols.
queen_annes_revenge - fantastic weathering and dynamic posing.
Melcavuk - I think my favourite of the lot. This seems to be one of the most amazing Stormcast conversions I have yet to see, with a top notch paint job. Bigger pics please!
Jah-joshua - top notch studio level paint job.
feltmonkey - Perfect rendition of Heath Ledger
Paradigm - your unique style works really well with this piece. You could say it's a stark contrast to the super clean Iron Man we usually see
Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

whoa, so many good entries this month, I honestly think this is our best month so far. I'm just happy to have taken part in this one seeing who and what I was competing against.
Like many others I was only able to get my votes down to 12, since I felt they all deserved a vote.
First shout out to ChaosDadJr, the Ork Avengers are a very nice idea, I'd like to see some closer pics of the models.
Zach and Zobo, excellent entries, both outstanding paint jobs. I hope the charity auction does well.
Queen Ann, for entering a totally different model and making me feel proud to be British (which was much needed at that time)
Zerg for taking on a daunting model, defiantly most improved.
and to Gunhazard for not letting the trickster mishaps grind him down.
and several others.
Good luck everyone, I've voted for as many of the images in the galley as I could.

I'm also bit disappointed with results on my entry. :( I consider it as one of my best painted models.
Can I ask you for some constructive critique, what to improve or make differently next time? Thank you.
