I feel the same. Possibly my best work (in my own opinion) and only 3 votes. I figure I just entered it in the wrong contest; there's just too many great entries, and mine doesn't stand out enough (especially when there's another, better Bloodthirster in there!). Not a problem, as I'm proud of my entry anyway, and you should be too!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):

Just three short years ago I started painting, and its been quite the endeavor to improve and climb my way up. I know very well the feeling of putting in the work and not being sure of the result, but I also know its not a worthwhile measure to compare apples and oranges. Everyone is not at the same point along their scale
of progress, which is all competitions like this measure, so I wouldnt put too much stock in the votes either way. What matters is that your mind was engaged and you produced the best result you could...no matter how good you get, that will always be the case for your entries. That's to say, an all out sprint takes the same determination of
an Olympian as it does a weekend warrior.

@ Zerg and Hawky

Never feel too disheartened with a lack of votes, it can feel frustrating after putting in a lot of effort on a model, this was a particularly hard month to get a vote in when you look at the other entries.

A few observations from me, don't take them as criticism.
Zerg one your imagines is on the front page of the gallery homepage so there a positive and I do think it is your best painted model to date
- Because there is another bloodthirster that Zach painted exceptionally well you can do a direct comparison and see how yours differed from his, I would have liked to see you do more with the chaos symbols on the wings breaking up the black mass, Zach did a cool glowing affect (you don't have to do exactly that but your take on what a chaos symbol looks like would be interesting).
- You got shading on the flesh well, some highlights on the highest points and bits like the knuckles would have added more "pop" and life to the flesh.
- You also need some shading on your metalwork and highlights especially on the copper colour bits, it the photos it all looks one colour.
- Add more definition to the bone areas like the teeth and wing claws would have helped frame the model better, the tongue does look good.

Hawky
To help your paintwork stand out some more highlights on the edges would have helped, e.g. the knife edge, top of spade, armour panels etc.
The flesh looks fine and your got the eyes done very well but there are quite a few "mold lines" still on the model which can break the illusion you are looking at a RL person and not a model.
The camo strips are done with very good detail, its still a model to be proud of.

One of the things I realised when I started to try and get better at painting (mainly for this series of monthly challenges) is you need to trick the eye into seeing what you want it to see and not what is actually there. so in RL you see a spade and its painted one colour looks like a spade but in 28mm world you have to exaggerate everything to bring attention to it or it just looks like a flat black square.
Hope thats been of some help I'm still learning new things every challenge I do. The good thing about the community that inhabit this thread and the challenge thread are if you ask for feedback you will get some good tips from very talented people.

P.s Thanks for the vote para I'll keep trying to improve

I'm actually baffled that 7 people voted for my mini
But yeah.. my vote is out, ZoBo's Ork is just complete bonkers - everything fits very nicely together in this mini.

Wow, I picked up 14 votes! Thanks, everyone. I particularly liked Paradigm's Ironman this round - it is a great difference to the usual pristine Ironmans one normally sees.

You guys should definitely not be discouraged. I've voted in (I think) all of these so far and it's always surprising to me how the voting goes. It is in no way, a measurement of your skill or effort. With so much variety here you never know what speaks to people as they vote.

At this point it looks like: Zach's Bloodthirster will probably win. If you look close I'm guessing just very simply dry-brush painting throughout most of the model and an airbrush glow-effect on the wings - but the final composition is so eye-catching and appealing.

If voting was strictly on highest level of painting skill I'd say gohkm's Baron Allmoon or keezus's Lord Carver would be clear winners, but neither are even in the top 5 voting wise.

Midget Gems's Grimgor Ironhide should be doing better in my opinion too. I think the picture being so bright might be hurting him.

sockwithaticket's Space Marine Chaplain is so darn precise and showing off some major brush control but doing badly with votes here.

Nodri's PHR Special Commanders are using a limited pallet but still just look great...

Bottle's Brakkar, hero of the Ratskin Renegades I'd say is not painted to the same skill level as some mentioned above, but he's doing really well in the votes - though likely because it is still AWESOME, the Machete-like awesomeness is just so bad-*ss; and overall the mini does look great.

jah-joshua' Borka Kegslayer, Vengeance of the Rimeshaws is probably the best 'full composition' and best all-around in my opinion and he's doing well with votes but I don't think he'll win.

These contest don't measure your skill so don't get disheartened by the voting. You both did fine work.

Yep, votes are in (and possibly a record number at 617!), and it was a mighty close race!

There was a 3-way tie for 3rd between...

Januine with The Nurse:

queen_annes_revenge's superb Spitfire:

and jah-joshua with Borka Kegslayer, Vengeance of the Rimeshaws
[spoiler]

Just clear and taking second, we have ZoBo with Zhadsnark "Da Rippa"

And takin first place, Zach's stunning Bloodthirster

Well done all! Due to the exceptionally high number of votes, some entries are showing up as 0%, this will be rounded up to 1 when the League gets updated so completion is rewarded!

See you next month, when we Unleash The Beasts!

Well done everyone and thanks for voting for me. A 50% increase in votes for me from previous months (and even if you put that down to the higher total votes, I still improved in my relative position - about 29th out of 48 instead of nearly last!). Hopefully it means I'm getting better!

Dark Angels/Deathwing - just getting started!
Space Marines - Stark Crusaders 4500pts/PL244 (2700pts painted)
Eldar - Biel Tan 2000pts
Space Wolves 1500pts

Thanks for the feedback Gunzhard, I did think that at the time it was over exposed and even more so when I saw it compared to everyone else's photos but didn't do anything about it, should have followed my gut and redone the photos, I will try and get the balance right for next months, I'll have to play around with the lights and exposure time I think. Thanks to those that voted for me
