One of the finest writers ever employed by GW passed away last night after succumbing to a terminal illness. He will be gravely missed not only by friends and family but also thousands who loved his work.

Terrific post. Such sad news. The impact his work has had on thousands of us. I think of the hours of quality hobby time, friends, discussions that would never have happened in the absence of his work

That post from AD-B is heartbreaking. Though this is a huge loss for his loved ones, and for the gaming community, he was able to spend his life doing something he loved and cared deeply about. We should all be so lucky.

Extra sad because I never really knew any of the Forge World staff, the only guy I ever saw from the videos was this guy who did the book previews and loved watching him. Had to search his name and discovered it was him.

Rest in peace, a light from my favorite universe has gone out. Thank you for your work in life. Honour is eternal.

As soon as you start reading any of the background in a Horus Heresy book the quality of the writing immediately jumps out at you. It feels visceral, real, tangible. Alan Bligh had a real talent as a wordsmith, the stories he wrote were evocative and felt like a documentation of real events. The quality he brought resonated through every Forge World release. He will very much be missed by the community.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

So sad .......

My favorite GW writer ... I only met him once, last year at Warhammer Fest and he was so kind and talkative. He was THE person I wanted to meet so that was a great moment.

He seemed like such a great person and he definitely was a great writer and artist.

My thoughts are with his family....

Sad news. Loved this mans work.

Everyone who met him only had good things to say which is a lesson for us all.

We as a community of hobbyists have lost a genius of creativity.

Words wise, I'm thinking along the lines of

'On behalf of all Dakkanauts

You and your talent will be missed. Thank you for expanding our gaming horizons

So long, and thanks for all the fluff'

I'm not especially poetic, but I feel that's around the right level of respectful?

I'll also ask if he had a preferred charity, in case anyone wants to make a donation in memorial.

I doubt anyone could have said it better. Never knew the man, but I adored the passion and attention to quality and detail that he showed in his work. Ultimately he made the hobby a better place to be, not many have achieved that.

I've never met him. And to be completely honest, I didn't actually know who the man was until this morning. But the work he did made my life happier and more pleasant in general.

It's always sad to lose a creative talent whose work is entrenched this deeply in the hobby. My condolences to his family and friends for they likely feel this loss than I ever could. That said, he will be missed all the same, despite me never meeting him personally.

He set the tone for a lot of the 40K RPG. The Beast House is something I've used quite a bit in our games. Didn't realise he was the one to come up with it.

I am a huge fan of Alan's work and vision for the 30k and 40k universe. In his videos, you can see his passion for his work and hobby. While I never got to meet him, I have enjoyed immersing myself in the world he helped create and have made many new friends at tournaments and events that would not have existed without him.

Really sad news. One of GW's best kept talents, and a unifier in the material.

We are going to miss his greatness, especially in this upcoming new year of GW's rebirth....

Make sure you read some of his stuff if you are lacking in knowledge of his material...

We are going to have a tough time carrying his torch forward with the settings.

Mad Doc, please include our collective thanks for his talented contribution to the game universe that we all have enjoyed over the years, and that his memory will continue to live on in his gift of the writings...

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.
