We just launched the Kickstarter campaign for our new rulebook! The Gangfight Skirmish Game System lets you play skirmish battle games in any setting you want, with any miniatures you want! The core rules have universal skills and equipment that can work for many settings, and will also include additional rules for Fantasy and Sci Fi games, like magic or high tech weaponry.

The campaign is set to run through the beginning of September, and our goal is just to fund the core rulebook to get our new game system up and running.

I'll be keeping an eye on this! Always on the lookout for nice generic rule sets.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

I'm always interested in good skirmish rules. Necros (or anyone who has played the system) what would you say are the most interesting/difficult decisions that players face in your game? For example, in Song of Blades and Heroes (popular fantasy skirmish rules) the most interesting choice that players face is how many activations they attempt, with more activations attempted increasing the chance of passing play to the other player.
What are the interesting choices players face in your game?
Upkeep vs action?

I think the biggest challenge is balancing the amount of actions you have, while also trying to anticipate what's going to happen to your characters for the rest of the game turn.

For example, if you have 4 actions, you can stand still and shoot 4 times, but it might be better to move once, shoot twice, and then duck into some cover.

Or maybe you picked up a loot card and got some new amazing weapon.. do you use one of your valuable remaining few actions to equip it, and maybe just get one attack with it.. or wait until your next upkeep phase where you are allowed to automatically change weapons for free?

There's lots of options, but your characters will only have a few actions each turn, so if you like to micromanage what you do, you should like the rules a lot. But you don't have to, it's also a lot of fun to play like an action movie and just run out there guns blazing, that's usually the way I play

I may back this as well. Generic rules are always preferred for me. Throwing in zombies and sci-fi may just make this one a winner. Are you going to include rules for small mecha by any chance? I have some of your Mechadrome mechs and could use a ruleset that they could play in.

Yes Mechs are basically treated like mounts. So you have your character as the pilot, and the mech will basically just buff some of his stats, like speed or strength.. and the larger base size and the heavy armor crank up the health points meaning he's a lot tougher to kill, and there's the bonus of being able to use heavy weapons with no penalty too.

And hopefully next year we'll be doing Mechadrome 2.0 that will have expanded rules and lots of new models

Does the rule book contain all the loot cards, or are those separate? And how generic are they? Is there a set for sci fi and a set for fantasy and a set for modern and....? I've never played a skirmish game that allowed for looting and upgrading weapons during game play (only board games like that), so I'm curious how it works.

Loot cards are optional, but there would be separate decks of loot cards for each setting in the book if we are able to hit those goals. They'll be add-on items, still working out the price, I just got my quote back.

So basically if you take someone out of action, or capture an objective, you can draw a loot card and give it to that character. You can either equip and use the item, or like if you find a big battle axe but your character only uses guns, you can just save it and it'll count toward your victory points at the end of the game.

Also looking forward to it. I like some of the changes from the playtest document.

Thanks folks! Going pretty well so far, 76% funded in 24 hours

Going to start putting together a series of gangbuilding articles soon, showing off how you can create gangs out of models from a bunch of different ranges.

Will there also be rules for 3 or more players? It's time for my Warzone minis, WGF shock troops, and DFG Eisenkern to face off in the Battle of the Space Germans.

(With a special appearance by my Defiance space Germans, if they'll ever stay glued together.)

Yep, you can do up to 4 players, more than that and it starts to get a little messy. Basically just instead of taking turns activating 1 model at a time, you just go around the board clockwise. You can also do team up games, or free for all.

Looks like it funded. Congrats!

So, multiplayer is a thing, does Gangfight include solo rules as well?

Thanks folks Pretty psyched over here

And yes Multiplayer is in there. Basically the way it works is instead of activating 1 model at a time and going back and forth between players, you start with whoever won the initiative roll and then go clockwise around the table to see who goes next. and that works for a free for all game, or teams of 2 on 2. 4 Players is the recommended max, if it goes higher than that the game tends to slow down a lot. Of course you can go higher than that if you really want to

I'm interested, but have limited shelf-space and shipping can be a big cost to Canada. Would it be possible to add a pledge level for a PDF of the rules?

We're going to give a full PDF version with every rulebook pledge. Once the book is done, we'll have the core rules as a free PDF, and then the setting supplements will be available to download separately for probably just $1, so people can pick whichever ones they want to add on. We'll probably use Wargame Vault for that.

First stretch goal down! Steampunk setting supplement will be added to the rulebook

Next up we have the Pirate Setting Supplement at $12,000. We should be able to get that one unlocked soon.

We're also going to start doing a series of update posts on the campaign page that talk about how you can use the minis from a variety of different games to build gangs. First one will be tonight, with a small starter gang using Dungeon Saga minis.

Right now we are about 5 backers away from the next stretch goal for the Pirate setting supplement Things are going really well. Hopefully in the next week or so we will also be able to get the Zombie stretch goal unlocked too!

We're trying to decide which settings we want to do next. Thinking about adjusting the later stretch goals to drop the loot cards and just keep adding new content and settings to the book, and then doing the loot cards as another project later on.

Content is always better in my opinion. The more included to handle transitions between the settings and balance out the rules is great.

For the Loot-Cards, maybe do them as a Print-Play supplement? Then you don't have to worry about the print aspect and costs associated with it, but they will still be available making them an in-between goal, between the main stretch goals.
