I am curious as to what your favourite 40k models are (both GW and Forgeworld) and why. I am not talking about what your favourites are on the tabletop, just your favourite based on style and look.

My favourite to this day is still the emperor's champion. For one it was the first 40k model I have ever bought almost two decades ago and I still think it is one of the best GW designs to this date. The pose is elegantly simple, but still oh so awsome and the sword is one of the very few 40k designs that has a useful blade/handle ratio. Just love everything about that model.

Second for me is the legio custodes tribune Ixion Hale from Forgeworld. Talk about blinged out armor, but I love it. I really like the intricate detail on the armor, the pose is awsome aswell. Though I have to say, I have a soft spot for the entire custodes line from GW and Forgeworld. I think they did a very good job with them in general. The only issue I have are the sentinel blades (swords)....if they just had made the bolt pistol part that forms the crossguard a little smaller and slimmer and the handle a little bit longer, they would have been perfect.

My third favourite design is the tyranid broodlord: I was always oddly fascinated by the genestealers in general and I just love the pose of this particular one as it leaps from that tyranid spine-thingy. Also it's massive talons are just really cool in a menacing sort of way.

I am really interested to hear what your favourite models are.

Yes! the 3rd ed metal Grey Knight Terminators were awsome! I can't really say what the difference is exactly but I think they look way better than the new ones even though they are quite similar.

New or old Abaddon? I like both personally, the old one mainly for nostalgia reasons. At first I wasn't sure about the new Abaddon, he seemed a bit too huge to me initially, but it is a really nice sculpt.

Man that's a tough ask... Lots of great minins. Really strong pick with the Emperors Champion. Im considering throwing him in an order next time im ordering GW stuff just in case he goes OOP and I dont even collect space marines! Maybe that Black templars/ Dark angels army will happen one day lol.

For me it would have to be:

1. Craftworlds - The current wraith-lord sculpt. The only reason its not the knight is because I'm really not sold on the knights head..

2.Chaos Terminator/Terminator Lord. The mammoth tusk look is just mad 40k at its finest...

3. 3rd Edition Hive tyrant with wings. Because it looked like the queen from Alien 2 as it basically single handily sold me on collecting my first army.. (it basically was a direct rip off lets not kid ourselves...)

1: Boxnaught!

2: Rogue Trader era Land Raider

3: The metal Captain in Terminator Armor circa 3rd. Ed

Not from my main army:
1: Modern day Walkrant

2: the Lord of Change

3: Dark Reapers maybe. Possibly the current Striking Scorpions. Both are really bad***

Completely agree on the 3rd ed hive tyrant, though I also really, really like the new sculpt, especially the swarmlord configuration. Also, to be fair, what grimdark sci-fi game/movie/book/etc. hasnt't ripped off alien in some way shape or form...it was just so influential.

I wasn't knocking it or anything! I'm glad they made it and I genuinely thought it was something to do with alien when I was a kid hahaa..

I'm going to stick with just from one army because otherwise I find it very hard to pick (esp because I'd also feel compelled to throw in things like the Khorne Lord of War model just for its sheer size in plastic).
That one army being my long term favourite -Tyranids!

1) Zoanthrope! From his original form with two legs, thick rending claws and a huge mind; through to the newer floating minds with small claws. The newest plastic is a joy to behold with its clearly sinister face; powerful and yet floating body; that huge fleshy brain which highlights its powerful mental abilities. Just really awesome!
The kit itself is also impressive in how it mixes zoanthropes with venomthropes - giving very distinct appearances within the same duel kit.

2) Broodlord - both the cultist one and the "pure" one (they share very similar poses). They are properly huge, dominating with a looking down on your pose. Arched back, huge rending claws, smart looking hands. All over they just highlight what the powerful brood lord is to the Tyranids. A terror birthed from the stealer strain. Far superior to the older one which was far less impressive in style.
Also as the stealers we have today are still a super old kit and design (seriously I think they only got scything talon options and extended carapace ontop of their existing plastic sculpt which seems almost unchanged since their first Spacehulk appearance).

3) Pyrovore - I just love it! Even though I think its oddly not as well designed for its intended role (a close combat flamer); I think its a great design. That long cannon looks impressive and powerful. Honestly my gut feeling is that it was to be the new biovore and then someone in game design said "hey I like the old stumpy biovore, lets keep it and make this new one a flamethrower beasty.
The legs have strength in their design that gives a sense of power in the beast.

It was sort of tempting to actually go straight for the big ones and I do love many of the new massive Tyranids, from the first big monster we got in the Ravener through to the birthing beast of the Tervigon and the huge fliers. But I felt they were almost too easy to highlight so I went for some of the more medium sculpts that I feel might get overlooked compared to their giant cousins within the swarm.

You missed the original Hormagaunts:

They were all metal first generation hormagaunts. They had terrible posing in terms of balance with all their weight forward they could never stand up without a good coin on the bottom of the base to give it some counterweight. They were very very alien inspired. Also the 3rd generation Tyranids didn't really "wow" me. I disliked many of the changes and I think the only new ones I really liked were the Zoanthropes (that was the first we saw of the big floaty head approach) and the Raveners which, to my eye, were Hyradalisk copies with those huge scything talons and long tails. They got even more like that with the newer generation of them where the ranged weapon got modelled into the chest of the model.

The 2nd ed tyranids were very interesting and the carnifex was a very distinct design. Any particular reason why you like it so much? Though I also remember the 2nd ed tyranid warriors....those were really awful in my opinion.

Space Marine terminator armour. Specifically, the standard "Indomitus" type. No particular one, really. There's something solid and brutal about the design of the helmet and the bulk of the frame. Someone's in for a good shoeing, and it's not the Marine.

The Noise Marine. The original from 1992 or the recent plastic one.

The Rogue Trader from Blackstone Fortress.

It was really iconic at the time. It captured the feel of this absolute wrecking machine (its basically 4 huge scythed arms), back when the Fexes were top of the Nid food chain.

My love is vehicles, so my absolute favorite has to go to the Mark I Land Raider (the current one is good, but I like the original better)

Next would be the 2E plastic Tyranid Warriors. There’s just something badass about a creature who unflinchingly wades into combat to mess you up despite the fact you can clearly see all its throbbing guts exposed through an open rib cage.

Last one is tough, but I think I have to give it to the Admech line; choosing a specific one, I’d say the Ironstrider/Dragoon. I love the red robes, the arquebus weapondry and the fact there’s a goddamn quadraplegic strapped into the chicken walking machine to run the thing.

It never ends well
