Important Customer Update

Our courier partners have supplied us with an updated list containing product classes that can no longer be shipped into certain countries. Unfortunately, Germany and Spain are prohibiting goods with an HS code that starts with 32 (Germany more specifically codes 3202 - 3215).

This means that, for the moment at least, we are not able to ship PAINTS (or anything containing a dye or extract) into Spain or Germany.

We have done our best to prevent carts containing these products from going through the checkout. However, if your order does go through the checkout containing one or more of these items we will be cancelling and refunding them back to you so the rest of your order can ship.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused, Brexit really is the gift that just keeps on giving!

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.

posted by Wayland Games but sounds like it's a general thing so beware if your ordering from over here (although I supose not many are any more)

the practical stand here is that citidel paints won't be avaliable in spain or germany until this gets sorted out. Spanish and German players, stock up on anything locally avable from GW that you need now while you can. Agrax earthshade is about to become a rarity

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

No... there are no opportunities for any other paint system in Spain... definitely not

However, I understand the point that if you have an on-going project using GW paints, colour matching is annoying if you have to go to a different manufacturer.

I get that, but honestly, nowadays it's easier than ever has been, both quality wise and with regards to color matching.

And well, a paint not being a 100% exact match is not exactly the end of the world, either. It can even give a bit of variety to an army

Yeah, most of the paints I'm worried about are those which are used on large surfaces of my army and non-black primers. I couldn't care less about, say, tentacles of my plague marines being in a slightly different color of pink.

Color matching is a PITA, I replaced a yellow and a white recently, for each I had to buy multiple colors until I finally found a way to get at lease close enough to my original paint scheme. So there really isn't much reason for me to switch to a different brand for colors that are essential to my paint scheme.

That is something that I understand on principle... but it's happened to me a lot of times and every time I've simply just used another "close enuff" color and simply compensated via grime, battle damage or simply being different squads.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say this is more a "couriers don't want burst paints in their sorting machines" issue rather than a "EU rolls on d100 chart on what to ban" issue

Funnily enough, they had been doing it forever, so it's probably something more than just that.

For some things you specifically don't want variety.

Knowing how these kind of agencies operate in Germany, it's probably either someone forgetting to add these numbers to the right list or some odd overlap where paint is equated with fried calamari because of a law with roots in the colonial age.

I have not found anything new for Germany or Spain regarding HS code 3202-3215, which is all kind of tanning, dye, up to printer inks

maybe because of brexit their shipping partners doing now air freight only hence they cannot ship those any more as those were banned from shipping by air years ago

another possibility would be that those paints contain special chemicals or animal products that are banned now for none EU countries, but this depends if it is only for some brands or all
(there is a new regulation for fine particles in suspension, that those are now dangerous goods, but this is not a general ban for import, just that you need to make sure to pack them so that the liquid cannot get out if the bottle is damaged)

More reason for Europeans to switch to the likes of Army Painter. Fantastic range, decent price, and based in the EU.

The objective of the game is to win. The point of the game is to have fun. The two should never be confused.

Not everybody use grime/battle damage and not all armies suit one uniform randomly looking different.

I've had AP white spray primer once, it put me off the entire range with how awful the experience was.
Generally speaking I don't care that much about GW paints, but I am already feeling the shortage of gw primers. Wraithbone is a fantastic off-white spray.

The new Vallejo primers are actually really nice.

This may impact Vallejo too, depending on what exactly is banned.

The quoted bit in the OP suggests it’s the dyes and pigments involved, and says you cannot ship into Spain or Germany.

If these are common pigments across ranges, it could mean even Vallejo won’t be able to ship within Spain.

The paper behind this would probably clear it up, if anyone has the foggiest of where to start looking.

To me this looks as if someone might have overreacted after seeing the new rules about titanium dioxide, which among other things is a common pigment (and has been re-assessed to be potentially carcinogetic if inhaled as dust). Or something like that.

i'd imagine it's like the sausages to northern Ireland, something where british safety checks which were fine when we were in the eu are now not recognised as equivatent e to dumb british negociators imagining the EU wasn't going to follow the letter of the agreement

It could also lead to a reformulation of specific paints. Certainly since their first release, Citadel sold on being water based and non-toxic.

If one ingredient is reclassified as potentially toxic, I can see it being removed without too much fuss.

Stop licking your brushes.

Titanium dioxide has been used in white paint forever because there aren't good alternatives. If you think your white has poor coverage now, wait until it doesn't have titanium dioxide in it. It might have a scary name, but it's in basically everything that's white.

It's also been used as a food additive and was considered safe in food until recently, when some commissions reassessed it and decided while it doesn't get absorbed much, it can build up in your body over time if continuously exposed.

Just had a chat with my local dealer and he told me that GW UK ships paints to France and from there it gets distributed to Germany.

So... maybe Germans are lucky?

Depends if it’s you can’t ship from the U.K. into Germany/Spain, or if you flat out can’t ship into Germany/Spain.

We could really do with a Sauce for this. Whilst we’ve no reason to disbelieve Wayland, the post is written from a limited perspective, ie they can’t ship paints. We’re missing the wider picture and perspective.

I’d be seriously grateful if anyone can do the research here, as I wouldn’t know where to start.
