2021 is ending, and 2022 will soon be upon us, what's in store for the next wave of updates in your opinion ?

My bet is that 2022 will finally see the long awaited Eldar refresh, since IG and Tyranids sculpts still hold up; on the other hand, the new TS/GK characters could mean an update to those factions is coming soon.

What do you think ?

I hope 2022 finally gives me plastic Krieg. The KT squad is nice, but there's a whole bunch more needed for a proper 40k force....
My wallet hopes this doesn't happen.

If the leaks from a couple of months ago continue to hold true (so far they've been very accurate), then it sounds like CSM and craftworld eldar are getting the next big release waves.
Along with tau and chaos knights getting smaller updates with a single new model each.

Strange to see all the loyalists that already got a Codex in that list (but maybe it's meant as a joke and I missed it )
Eldar or/and EC are my bet. Yes, those Berzerkers are old, but they're plastic and Eldar vs. EC would make for an obvious Boxset.

No option for CSM even though the so far very accurate leak shows us getting TEN new kits?

Death Riders, a couple officer types, and Grenadiers/Engineers might be in your future.

Oh they're definitely in my future. The only real question is the when.

CSM, Craftworlds, and IG - per the leaks. World Eaters a possibility but could just as likely be 2023 at this stage, for all we know.

As long as the new Eldar stuff includes a stonking great Avatar model in plastic to rival the current Greater Daemons (or, at least Be'lakor), I'll be happy.

I'd rather an Avatar at a reasonable scale (and price).

Chaos Marines are the likely big one for next year. I suspect Tau are getting the one and done miniature tossed out the back of a truck with their book, much like the DE this year.

I want to see the Tyranids range finished in plastic, and craftworlds need so, so much. But the way things have been going, not holding my breath.

Guard need some things, but mostly a codex.

Loyalist marines need... negative things, or at least sitting on the shelf for a good while. Grey Knights could have used upgraded models, but that ship sailed.

Nids have a fairly fine range mostly in plastic.

The factions that need a dire refresh of the range are for sure CWE, CMS and Dark Angels.

I think that those are the last metal models still around?

Just hit me with CWE releases all year, I'd be a happy and broke man.

In reality, the extremely reliable leak has stated significant, but not complete, Eldar revamp next year. A big chaos dump which should be interesting, but I'm not sure if that will include EC/WE in 2022.

what is interesting to me is that still we are seeing the little blurbs that were in PA come to life. They talked about squats, they talked about warp spiders and striking scorpions, World Eaters, Morvann Vahl was even mentioned (not by name, just title) etc. Worth going back to check the little echoes in the warp writing to see what else hidden in there (that hasn't already been released)

Fishmen will finally get a codex and an all-plastic modular range of kits*. With each box containing enough bits to do ANY and all of the options for each unit.

*The kits will be monopose, with the only "modularity" being which base you put them on (which will naturally be all identical). This is not a problem, though, as the unit will only HAVE one option.

I find nids stuck with pretty old/ undynamic design concepts (4th edition, 2004), but the fact that they are a monster-race makes it less apparent than squat marines' size.

I'm pretty sure they are last on GW's list, and its most likely we'll some old sculpts redesign and new units than a complete range refresh.

I hope Crafworld Eldar.

AM could be amazing as well, I fear we'll get Chaos stuff though.

SM and GK would make no sense since their codex are already out and eventual releases would be about new stuff, rather than updating existing codexes.

That second part will never happen, but what do you mean by "reasonable scale"? You want another model the size of the current one, or the plastic Daemon Prince?

Personally I don't really want one larger than the FW version.

I honestly don't care if an Eldar Avatar is $140 as long as it is a fantastic model and plays well on the table.

I think if the new Avatar was the size of the original Avatar and cost $140, you'd care.

I'm hopeful that 2022 will include Eldar releases and the Aspect Warriors will have both new sculpts and rules that make them meaningful. I'm also hoping we see more plastic IG and they go with a sensible strategy of generic infantry with reasonably priced upgrade sprues for different regiments. Yes I know reasonable priced is a pipe dream.

As much as I would love to see new Eldar, my gut feeling is that it'll just be a single redone character.

This is, currently, a 99.99% accurate rumor bit:

Spoiler:

The person who had originally posted that did straight-out drop "Warp Spiders" as one of the bits. We have a Rumor Engine of what looks like a plastic Ranger kit, and there's been rumors circulating of an Aeldari vs box for Kill Team and mainline 40k.

This, they don't even need new units. Just make plastic kits for units that went to legends or just disappeared entirely.

I'd be fine with either of those. Maybe even the current Wood Elf Treeman (which struck me during the last release Wood Elf as the 'Avatar of Wood'), but the Greater Daemons aren't impressive models to me. Just big.
It didn't help that they lead with the bloodthirster, whose pose and wacky musculature put me off the remade daemons.

It also doesn't help that I have three of the original metals (Bloodthirster, Lord of Change and Great Unclean One) and collectively the three of them cost me less than $25 (the GUO was half off in a bargain bin, to be fair). They're slightly under daemon prince size now (and the LoC is a heavily converted daemon prince for beastmen back when they could have those). They don't have the detail of the modern plastics, but the huge jump in size and price is completely unjustified.

So $60-70 for a treeman-sized Avatar is a sadly unrealistic expectation, but they could totally do it.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.
