Hello Everyone,

I've generally avoided Warhammer Legends and Forge World stuff because I'm never sure whether play groups or tournaments will/would allow them.

Unfortunately for me, the Bonesinger is a WH Legend and is a pretty cool model... So, I am curious how everyone feels about these less standard models.

Thanks!

Yes and no. Many games I’ll run my legends stuff and that will increase with these new changes. Othertimes I’ll proxy as a differmodel.
For example, I also have the bonesinger so now will also use him as another spiritseer since I generally run heavy Iyanden themed Eldar.

Legends here is a death sentance for a unit. Maybe people will let you counts as it as something else, but otherwise you ain't being played if you try to use it.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

I do play them, but it is discussed first. I have adjusted some points, in cooperation with my opponents. For example, the Spartan was a bit cheap, next time I will bring my two they will cost me 50 points more.

I would allow custom unit profiles if there is no close equivalent in the index or later Codex, provided their points cost seems right. As always, this is something my opponent and I discuss in advance.

Well from the reactions online, I have a feeling that the no to legends happens more often then doesn't. But it is moot points. It is like arguing that someone plays in a place where no one does matched played, but everyone does open or narrative crusade games only.

Its anecdotal but every single person i know in the hobby has no problems with legends being used, i explicitely asked them when the edition started because a large chunk of my NL list is 30k-era stuff that got legend'ed. The only case where i've had some resistance was if they would be willing to play against them in tournaments, which isn't up to them anyway, its up to the TO to decide.

I think the bonesinger is a great pairing for the WL (+6 FNP and wound recovery) since the spiritseer buffs more tailored for the WG. TBH I was thinking of trolling with 3 bonesingers healing wounds on a WK since they get lone operative being close enough... IMO feels balanced since each bonesinger is 45 points I'd be spending 135 pts to heal 3-9 wounds per turn... A support weapon can deal 3-8 wounds for each attack (D3 Blast) for 105 pts.

Do most/all tournaments allow for Legends or are they generally ruled out?

There is also a big gap between “I found this cool datasheat that due to poor versioning has some pretty broken interactions with modern units, I’m fielding 3” and “This is my old model I’ve fielded for 20 years. He’s not current, but fun. Mind if I use him?”

Obviously a bit of a strawman here, but there is a range of nuance in the hows and why of why people use legends. Unfortunately the specter of the first example makes people exclude the second. Hypothetically. I generally play pretty casually, and have never had an issue, although can’t recall how many times it comes up. Many people just leave it at home for pick-up games anyway.

I also have a bonesinger, and was thinking of how to use him. Would prefer the legends rules, but spiritseer works in a pinch. Not like I lack other seer options.

Sure, I will play games with legends, not a prob in the least because I don't play pickup games

I do.
I don't need my opponents permision because GW has said that outside of the tournament scene, these are the rules for units xyz+.
I don't play in tournaments, so by default my Legends units are valid.

I will stop using a unit as what it is when it lacks rules for the edition we're playing.
In that case it may become as counts-as/proxy for something else within reason.
Ex: My original Razorbacks - with their lascannon/twin plasma gun turrets. This loadout is not currently supported. So they get run as Razorbacks with TL lascannon.

Of course you have no way to force anybody to play you. So if you want game you do need. He can always say no game vs legend.

I didn't run legends in my lists because I played competetive-adjacent. I'm gonna have to now if I want to run my Assault Squads, Land Speeders and Bikes. . . Which sucks.

So if I play 40k 10th I'll probably run legends with appropriate permissions. But it's more likely that I'll be looking at alternative or earlier rulesets.

Yes. It's rare to have a game in my group without at least one or two Legends units on the field (most often for wargear options that were dropped).

I think every game I played of 9th had legends units in it..

Any game of "current" 40k I play in the future will be guaranteed to include legends. If the other player disapproves, I know whom to never play again.

But the chances of me playing "current" 40k in the future are minimal.

Nope. The rules are full of errors and never updated even as the game changes and they become more and more broken. It's not worth the hassle of figuring out how to house rule them and I've never seen anyone else use them either.

Yes, without batting an eye. Currently they're about as up to snuff as anything else in 10th.

Of course, this might change later on during 10th, but I very much doubt that Legends will become progressively better once codexes start dropping - quite the opposite in fact.

But my gamingcircle will cross that bridge when (and if) we get to it.

I've played with groups across 4 major cities in the US and I've never met one that cares about whether or not you're bringing Legends. Most people don't even know the Legends units in their own faction, let alone the ones from the 20-ish factions they don't play.

I do, but most of my games are pick up games, so I'll bring a backup list/models (that doesn't include legends) in case my opponent doesn't want to deal with legends.

If my opponent brings out legends and they aren't exploiting some weird rules interaction or busted statline, I'm just happy to see some unusual models on the teable.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

Legends these days aren't really "unusual models" though. Come the next Marine Codex, some of those legends are going to be things that were Marine staples for decades.

I was talking myself into buying the forge world demon engines up until the point that they got pushed into legends. May as well just build it or print it myself if it's going to have abandonware model rules.

I see the FW units in particular as an opportunity to convert my own versions of the models, 'cos i'm never gonna pay those prices. Happy to pay legends; my local club has a casual tourney now and again where they are allowed, even. Tempted to do a chinork helicopter for my growing all-kommando army

All we play in our FLGS group is "legends" since we mostly play a 5th ed house rules version of the game. including all the FW stuff. if you spent the money to buy said models and have the rules to go with them (we have all the FW books so that's not an issue) you can play whatever you like between 3rd and 7th ed as they are all cross compatible. nothing in our gaming group can get GAKKED by GW anymore since they are not supporting previous stuff. in fact we reverse legends stuff. you got primaris intercessors...counts as tactical marines, just toss in a guy with a heavy&special weapon. A repulsor..pick a land raider variant you want to run including all the FW variations.

I do not personally, though have no issue if my opponent does. I play a couple times a week, at various locations, and also attend events. Opting to not use legends just makes it so I can play the same things regardless of my location/event.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

No one wants to write a list, get all the models together, drive down to the game store, and then have to ASK if they can run a certain unit that may or may not be very important to how the list works on the table.

Legends is a death sentence for a unit.

Man, i'm so confused as to how games are organised in the states/europe. I never ever showed up to the store without a game preorganised over facebook.

So i guess i'm lucky and people don't mind legends around here
