Thanks, glad you like it. Got an Eversor and a Culexus I stated ages ago to complete so I've got the set! And a single Ratling a friend found in a box to add to my squad of 6. There might be some re tooling to cope with 8th but I generally don't bother with that sort of thing. After that there's a significant amount of SM stuff laying around......

Some more interesting 8th Ed stuff flying around. New Dread looks interesting. it really does look like they are just replacing the entire SM line though, one of my fears from the initial rumours. Well there is enough stuff in the existing 'small marine' range to make extra stuff a bit redundant anyway and I think they will have to keep releasing rules for em as there are too many out there to stop supporting. Pre orders are in 6 days and I look forward to getting my hands on the Indexes... Here is some more progress. It will all seem like a bit of an anti-climax after Yarrick really. Should have done him dead last! Here are the last 2 Assassins to finish my quartet.. And random solitary, donated by MLCS, Ratling..to add to my squad of 6. Here's a refresh of base colours and the highlighting on their jump suits, I mean synskin. Metallic areas have been washed and highlighted and some details picked out Same for the stupid 'new comer' one too... Doing some blue wibblyness in his eye hole...sort half arsed OSL More on these guys sooner or later, I'm not going to go nuts on them as I don't really care and will probably field once if I'm lucky. Still I have a soft spot for Assassins and am glad to have the quartet in the old original iterations of the shrines. Right back to pressing F5 on the Warhammer Community site. xx

Yes I think it's got a highlight coming, and yes I'm not going to go too wild with these guys.
STG wrote:I like the models for the primaris marines but the fluff is garbage. Assassin's are looking cool
Thanks! Yes I wish it was just a new Mark of armour rather than a new scale. Would make more sense from a fluff perspective too. I would have considered getting a few to retro fit into m existing company but I'm left cold by bigger scale and mono equipped units. The jump guys are especially 'toy-ish' and have those stupid HB SMGs? Where's their massive swords? Call themselves assault troops.

If the entire hive fleet Behemoth couldn't crack it I don't see how some Marines with the clap plan to, especially since Rowboat has got up from his beauty sleep.
I have finished these assassins, just need to do some pics, It;s all stalled recently as I've been looking for a place to move to, looks like that is sorted now, just the unpleasant matter of actually packing everything up. But I might get a bit in before the end of the month.
I've 8th Ed on order, in the old days that meant getting it on release day, apparently not now, should have gone to a discounter. I'm looking forward to playing some games and trying it all out.

S'up.
So I've moved house which was a big deal and really hard. It was only made possible by my helpful friends, especially midlifecrisissuit and Alex. Thanks. But I have been able to settle in and even do a bit of painting! First up I finished off the assassins, which I'm not that bothered about but I owned them and it's nice to have the set of 4.
Eversor. Always quite liked these guys and their 'subtle' school of assassination, I think he looks ok and I will probably never field him outside of Apocalypse anyway.
Other one. Still see these guys as jumped up new kids, never really liked them. Did some half arsed OSL on the eye thing. Looks bad, not bothered..
This left only one solitary IG model unpainted, this little guy:
The 2nd (I think) iteration of a Ratling...
I've a squad already of the 1st iteration models, this guy is being painted to match...a very simple recipe, just interlocking triangles of various colours..
Then a quick inkwash..
And bam, done (I tidied up his base after noticing the gaps on the rim).
I think he's fine once lumped in with the other guys.
So I also managed to play a game of 8th too. More on that in a bit.
xx

Thanks, I think you have to bit a least a bit of a completist to really 'get' this hobby/compulsion thing we seem to have.
Nevelon wrote:Nice work. Good to see you painting.
Thanks, I will catch up on your thread soon too. Well worth a read if you haven't been there subscriber.
So I got the rulebook and the 2 Imperial Indices and started to write an IG list. I managed to fit in 92 infantry, 2 Russ, 2 Artillery and 3 Sentinels into 1.5k, 12 command points. I had a pile of little characters running around too. I got given Alex's loan set of old terrain. It's a bit battered and built for 5th ed but will make a fantastic start to having a home set up finally. I will do a few pics sooner or later. I also intend to recondition it and add to it too. Soon TM. MLCS lent me his folding board to put it all on and we actually managed to play an actual game. I only snapped off a few pics but he got a few more, if you want a look go over to his blog. It's just starting out and it is, unfortunately, about dirty, cheating, filthy, unsportsmanlike Tau but we can't all play Space Marines (apparently).
Plucky Imperial Gaurd..
Dirty underhand Tau...
Action shot of his cheating bomber which does up to 10 dice worth of MORTAL wounds to anything it flies over? Did they even read the Mortal wound entry? Stupid thing nearly deleted an IG squad on turn one.
https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/733369.page
Go here, he does lovely stuff and is really good at conversions, he's only just started this but it's worth a look, especially if you actually like Tau, assuming anyone does. #TauAbuse
That's all the pics I got. It was an enjoyable game, somewhat tarnished by it being the 'bases' mission with the one objective each. This has always been (basically) 'get 1st blood and win' mission which is now made worse by IG never----ever going first and shooting being nastier. So to win I needed to seize or table. I did neither. It was a draw on turn 4 when we stopped but I felt the tides were beginning to turn my way after losing most of that wall of infantry. I had finally got him down to not much and may have been able to shoot him off his home objective, especially if it went long. Whatever may have been, it was an enjoyable game, especially between 2 unashamedly shooty armies, we still managed a lot of charges and my little support characters acquitted themselves well. I had amazingly bad luck and passed about 6 saves all game and my debut Basilisk did feth all. Still the sheer amount of them meant they could just absorb the causalities and somehow drag a few Tau with them. Sorry 'T'au'.
I would like to use the table to do a new set of 'Everything' shots for the IG now they are 'finished'. It's a bit weird to own no unpainted IG and a bit anti climatic to bash out that Ratling and call it done. Still I have a boatload of Marines waiting in the wings (including a Knight) and some Medieval Perry's stuff for something called 'WAB'. No, me neither.
The Space Marines are coming....

Nice, not too bad a match for the board either from these quick pics.
Boringly enough those ruins were built for 5th but I also added some larger Los blocking buildings to them. I've got a feeling that they may have been absorbed and repainted into my set. What you have there is a haemonculus of mismatched buildings and odd bits that will fit into a single crate, some imagination will be required to play a good game on them! It was a convenient travel/limitedstorage set up.
Seeing as we now have the green light to get you a permanent set up let's get on it and get you a spanking table built.

Isn't it great that LTs are a thing again. I plan to build 2 for my company. I'm not sure a retrospective is being called for. I might get the nicest 5-10 pics from the IG gallery for a post, will see if I can be arsed.

Sounds ominous. *braces self*
I think they will shape up well. I will pick a few of the more complete ruins and add more vines/ivy to make them look overgrown, with the large amount of trees it will make a nice ruined wooded area. Once we get the chance a few big LOS blocking building can happen too. I'm looking forward to it.

SO the last thing I was working on for SM was my 'Raven, seen last here: I've pretty much finished it now and am waiting on a paint delivery to crack on with it. I will do some pics soon. I already made 2 of these flight bases and I have here finished the 3rd. These will be for my Storm Wing formation, oh wait..........These will be for my Flyer Wing. Sanded and ready for painting. The idea is to make them look good together as a little diorama type thing. It's supposed to be a shelled out abandoned IG AA emplacement. The 'Ravens base has a broken Ramshackle gun on it, it's the same as I have used on my Hydra and was chucked in as a freebie as it's miscast. Perfect for basing however. Base coats applied. The plastic pillars are a bit covered in spray, I will have to get a bit of that Isoprobyl alcohol or whatever it was (Gin?) to strip it off without ruining the rest. Still some colours to add actually.. Noticed there was no razor wire on these posts, will add some. It's the army painter stuff, it's quite good. More soon.

I don't really like them, they're a bit ugly. I've striven to get a clean aerodynamic (for 40k at least) feel/look and left off all that extraneous stuff; like the turret and landing gear. The doors are glued on and would take a bit of a thing to get them off.

I'd be happy with a couple of servo skull gun drones/servitor thingies rather than tearing into the model.
Just pop em on the base or wings if on clear stands when you're using the HBs.

That sounds like Tau talk there.
8th is the first time in a long while I took a look at my collection and went “well, that loadout sucks now.” Mostly my HQs. Paired CC weapons was the way to go for a long time. Almost no use for it now. I’m not ripping anything apart, but am planning some new builds, and painting up magnetized bits.

I love the idea of a Servo Skull with 12 bolters. I'm def not going to be tearing into it no, I'm about to finish it and don't fancy doing major work on the superstructure. I'd love some Isoprobyl next time too (to tidy up the flight stands). xx

Me too I'm toying with the idea of retro fitting my Tack sarges to pack a bit more of a punch. Either a Plas pistol or PW is now so cheap. PP used to be 15 pts and you might (will) die and snipe out the Ld for the unit. Now they're about 7pts and only kill you if risk it voluntarily. PW went down from 15pts to 4 for a sword or 5pts for a probably better axe. Power Fists are now really good on heroes as they don't ruin the Captains fancy Init stat and they can handle the -1 to hit easily. I'm thinking of painting up my Limited Edition Captian with PF and SB. Automatically Appended Next Post: Seeing as I'm here...
Adding in the rest of the colours slowly..
Here they are nearly all painted. The metal has been drybrushed and muddied up, also some orange stippling happened. All the crap on the stands is visible here too, need to strip that off. These are nearly complete now and only need flocking/tufting.
I was planning to go down to Cornwall yesterday but my boy has had raging tonsillitis and so I've been hardly sleeping and managing his high temperatures. Hopefully he's on the mend now *crosses fingers*, but I won't get to do any modelling for a bit, I'm a bit in credit with pics so can keep this up for a while at least.
xx

Hiya.
I'm away in sunny (currently raining) Cornwall seeing friends and family. I managed to squeeze in time for a bit of an update..
Completed flying bases..This one has a shallow grave complete with marker made from a rifle and helmet, nice to be able to use flowers on a 40k base too.
Stormraven's base. Broken AA gun, the broken off barrel is visible sticking from the mud, also a stantion. Both were miscasts supplied to me as freebies from my Ramshackle orders.
Last 'Talon base. Various bits of kit strewn about. A split trail is there, also a ramshackle item and would form part of the towed AA gun set.
Quick snap of (nearly) completed airforce. The Talons are about done but the Raven needs a bit of detailling (next project), I need to decide whether I'm doing clear canopies or green tinted ones (they are all bluetacked on at the mo) and I think I will add some heat damage to the ACs of all the flyers. I will do some nice pics of the 'Raven when I get the chance too as it's not been seen on the blog yet. Probably down for another week or so but might get in another update. It's Pirate Day on saturday so that might be good. xxx

I might go with the green. One problem with marines is they tend towards being monochromatic. Nice to get accent colors in where you can.
Like the little touches on the bases.

Lovely to see these on the plog Randall. So much detail on the bases let alone the planes themselves.
I have to agree with Nevelon; green canopies would make the blue pop.
Enjoy Pirate Day yarrrrrrr! X

I did take a couple of pics about this, being in the unusual situation of having a spare 'Raven canopy..
Clear...which I think I prefer..
Green, albeit one patchy coat. I think it's a Humbrol translucent colour I used, it was a while ago.
Pics were just quick snaps and I'm still away from home so can't repeat them so they suck less. Still they give some idea.

I like the green, doesn't look too toyish from here although it's one of those things that you have to see irl or possibly on video to see how the light plays.
You'll see a huge improvement with a second or 3rd coat.
I'm not sure if it's strippable, I doubt it so maybe do a test on some sprue for science. Didn't give you any isopropyl this weekend. Duh.
Choose wisely young adventurer.

I'm away picking up my kid today but back later and I can add some more pics of the Raven. I've added a another layer of green to the canopy and finished some freehand on the side. I also managed to play another SM game vs BA this time. More on this stuff when I'm home.
Thanks for the help Alex, I've a few pics of a terrain project we started too. Automatically Appended Next Post: So this was the start of said terrain...
Alex liberated a few of these foam boards from a skip..
We sawed it down to a more manageable size and divided it into quarters..
Thusly..
These were sawed and hammered into this shape..none of these are finished and need a bit more finessing (with a hammer).
With the idea of making a hill that can be divided into 4 bits and so make corner hills etc. We didn't get much further and somehow ended up in a micro-brewery playing killer bunnies....The foam is great, nice and dense. When hit with a hammer (claw end) we created nice rock like patterns (like recto-linear jointing, for the Geologists out there and probably worth a 'Phrasing') which should look like nice natural outcroppings. The large amounts of off cuts we planned to make into some rock spire LOS blockers. As I said we got distracted but I hope to do a bit more on these sometime.
Back home now so a few updates will follow.
xx
