Ninjas all looking nice, that one guy is definitely loaded up for a fight.

Why go fancy with a gallows....barrel kick is as good as those dirty varmits deserve.

Nothing fancy about the gallows, just needs to be tall enough for the show. The good folk in the back have just as much right to watch the eyes pop out and the guy turn blue because the noose wasn’t placed right all accidental like .

Red Harvest wrote:Well, unlike all the Debbie Downers in this thread, I like Chibis. I have no idea why.

Nice work on them Theo. I hope you enjoy painting them. And do note, if they eyes are painted just so, they will seem to follow you around the room.

I did enjoy painting them, it was a nice change of pace. Spooky eyes not needed , I have enough trouble sleeping it seems.

Camkierhi wrote:Lots of great work bud. Ninja s looking brilliant. Gallows excellent. I'm with Red love me some think.

Not sure what the some think means, probably the autocorrect having it’s fun. But thanks Cam, I always appreciate your feedback.

Well, until my Blackwater Gulch stuff shows up (and my ninjas) I’ve gone and delved into the mountain of plastic crack I have stored in my labyrinth and pulled out a little treat. Not cannon, but the model called to me and I’ve taken it to a whole new direction. Maybe it’s the idea of having objectives in Bushido, maybe it’s dirty Steve in Young guns , but when I saw the massive darkness model of the cockatrix that needed to be painted up all I could think was “did anyone see the size of that chicken?”

Still WIP, but now I want to make one with a rider and one with prospector tools and packs on the back, cause nobody messes with an old prospector with a pack-chicken named “Dog”.

The samurai is avenging his honor after he initially ran scared from the beast. Or maybe because he’s Tired of all the villagers calling him “Chicken Teriyaki!”.....I’ll get my hat

Spent a little time making some cacti.

Well Noble Knight delivered early , so it looks like I have something to paint in the new year .

A Karapan and the ninja girl Makoto, which brings me to 97 points of ninja when these get painted.

Also cacti have gotten more coats of Biel-Tan green and sand basing.

Thanks Graven I’ll give it a shot, was thinking of drybrushing with the light green which would help it look like it has the white fuzz seen on a lot of cacti.

In other news I found a good deal on tori gates. The shadows of brimstone forbidden fortress gates of madness set comes with 4 plastic tori gates and 4 gates that look like a Tyranid gate for $25 RRP, or $17.50 at Miniaturemarket.

Not the fanciest of models, but definitely better than the MDF or even my scratch built one.

Also some work done on the Karapan and Makoto the ninja.

Still a long ways to go on them, and no time to work on them.

I work the next 6 straight at the hospital and have a massive funeral to get ready for this weekend. A really great guy from church, Patrick, passed away on Christmas Eve morning. He was 32, a great mind who unfortunately was hindered by being a confined to a wheelchair with minimal use of his hands. He still graduated from University of California at Berkeley and worked for the department of defense, honored last year in Washington D.C. for his work. He was our own Steven Hawkins and will be greatly missed. I’ll basically be pulling double shifts for the next week trying to get stuff ready and then cleaned up afterwards and prepped for church on Sunday so I might be quiet for a while.

So early wake up from my favorite cat meant I finished off a few things after feeding and watering the fluffy god.

Karapan is finished.

Except base

Makoto is done except base and strapping on legs, waiting for wash to dry.

First Tori gate completed

I think these torii are just fine for small temple/shrine walkways.

Makoto guarding the temple...or pillaging it.

And finally a shot of the demon gates, there are 4 of these as well in the package, showing both sides here.

They give me a strong Tyranid vibe.

Jinx, I was posting in your thread while you posted in mine , you owe me a coke.

I just primed the 4 demon gates after I posted my update. Also primed another Oni from super dungeon explore ninja expansion. I might work on them tomorrow as I am down with a servere cold bordering pneumonia.

Also noticed that Miniaturemarket is doing a special GW sale (in store only) starting Tuesday with well below MAPP priced goods, so if I make still alive and able to move I might swing by and see what I can grab.

What am I going to comment about? No clue. I have no idea what model range you paint for/collect, except that it's a lot of samurai and ninjas and that's awesome.

Also, you comment on mine a lot, so it seems fair to return the favor.

Thanks DV8, always room for more comments .

As you said this thread is a bit eclectic (nice word) with lots of different things. I don’t get to play much as my kids enjoy their phones and our Xbox more than board and miniature games, so I just do what I like. To prove that point.....I broke out some zombicide Black Plague figures. The giant and his zombie version to mess about with. Samurai figure and paint pots for scale size.

Also the Oni is from a super dungeon explore expansion I got on one of Miniaturemarket’s deals of the day for cheap. It had two of the Oni and a bunch of chibi guys (some of which I painted up for my kids).

Right now I’m in between projects asi finished all my Kage Kaze Zoku ninjas for Bushido (3 more out there, but one is a show exclusive so I have to wait to place that order), I completed all available Minimoto figs for Bushido, though there are a few ronin which can work for them. I’m also waiting on my kickstarter order for Blackwater Gulch, which will be the next project (most likely), but it should ship this month.

Tomorrow I’m going to try and get to Miniaturemarket at opening as they are having a GW sale. Below MAPP pricing, but it’s in store only and not widely advertised. I might break my no GW purchases (besides paint) rule and grab a start collecting set....or two. No real plan, though Khorne has been calling/bellowing. I’ve been also looking at shadespire and some of those warbands . There’s a lot of options, they even had some forgebane sets for $75 when I was there last week . Hopefully I walk out unscathed.

Off again today, turns out my “Cold” is a pretty nasty infection and I’m now getting some of the good stuff to clear it up.

I did make it to Miniaturemarket for their GW sale. Not as great as I had hoped, which is a good thing. They had the overstock stuff at 50% off. Same box sets they’ve had in store forgebane for $75, Blackstone Fortress $100, kill team for $80 (limit 1 per person) some terrain and AOS stuff. Great deals for GW gamers, but no additional on any other stuff. I picked up some paints I was missing, but saved myself from Khornes call. While waiting to pick up my medicine I hit the local FLGS for Tuesday double point day where I picked up the Guildball daughters of the falcon team with bonus figure. They seam to fit the Wild West theme that will be happening with my Blackwater Gulch stuff. I hope it scales to the same size as those figures when they arrive.

I haven’t even really looked at the rules and didn’t even consider that , I thought it was odd that a Falcon clan had a pet rabbit

So I hit them all with a brush on primer, also picked up a pair of deep-cuts oxen for the western game, but I did more work on the giants. Trying something new for zombies, primed, give them a drakenhof nightshade wash, then skin tone, then Reikland fleshshade wash. Regular giant has Reikland wash, skin tone and then another Reikland will go on top. I like the effect on the zombie, makes them look a little darker and sinister....and cold.

Still way work in progress.

Copied over from my Blackwater Gulch thread since......cows

Also painted for a few minutes today. So I can introduced Russel (dark one) and Stewie (white with spots) Bovierie, just need to base them up.

Currently they are unbranded as I’ll need to come up with a cattleman for my town, although I could call them Serenity and Firefly and have them pulling the big weird wagon for the serenity crew . That may need to become a thing now .

Also Wizkids Deepcuts (who made these oxen) have Wave 7 releasing now. I have a two pack of pack mules and a grizzly bear on order.

Oh and after I posted and moved stuff on my desk this happened.

Good doggies, wanna fetch the stick? (Who said giants were smart?)

It at least gives a good idea of scale for the oxen and the Guildball guys.

Stopped by the FLGS on my way to work and picked up a set of pack mules, a grizzly bear a couple air elementals and some paint. We are getting hit with massive snow right now, 1-3” in the next couple hours and expected 8-10” by tomorrow night with possibility of 15” . In the mean time we are moving grandma into a new assisted living community today too . This completes my worst moving fiascos bingo card having previously moved a friend in 110 degree Fahrenheit (43Celcius)weather up two flights of steps, having a friends movers steal his handgun and then two of the movers fight because the one knows the other took it and ratted him out (gun never recovered), movers not show up or even call on moving day , now blizzard conditions with 1/4 mile visibility .

Anyway I will NOT stay overnight at work, and will get painting time this weekend.

Thanks Maniac_nmt, it was shear luck that the white one came out well. I was messing about with new dry paints and washes and it just came together.

Well I know most people will say that they hate snow, but I love it. It started snowing (hard) when I left for work yesterday. My regular 15-20 minute commute turned into almost an hour and there’s was a couple inches by the time I got there. 6 hours later I went outside the hospital a good distance to measure true snowfall for the house supervisor. 6 hours and just over 9” of snow. Ambulance drivers were telling us how bad the roads were, but it was my wife telling me how she was driving for 2.5 hours and hadn’t made it a mile yet that really got me. She turned around and drove back and it took another 1.5 hours to do the same mile. One of my coworkers got in 7 hours late....he left 2 hours early, he also bought clothes to spend the weekend at the hospital as did about 50 or so staffers.

I made it home safe last night, heading opposite of Friday night traffic my route was clear but it still took twice as long as it was snowing hard again. It’s supposed to drop another 10” between now and Sunday morning. This is the most snow we e gotten in one dump since I was a kid 40 years ago. It’s beautiful, but my car got another 2-3 inches overnight so we might be close to 2’ when it’s all done tomorrow. Glad I picked up some new toys yesterday before leaving for work . Pics later.

Thanks Monkeytroll. Not snowed in, except at home sort of. We moved grandma to a different assisted living place on Friday as the snow started and I was going to reconnect her TVs on Saturday, but it started to sleet as we walked out of our house and the roads were crap so we waited till Sunday.

Some good news on the Test of Honour front.

Test of Honour 2nd edition is coming.

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Graham Davey, writer of the original ruleset. Andy Hobday and I developed the game, and now we’re making plans for taking things forward.

I’ve set up a company called Grey For Now Games, to become the new publisher (if you could see my miniatures collection, you’d know what inspired the name!), and the brilliant team at War Banner will be handling casting and delivery.

Andy and I have been throwing around ideas for ToH2 for a while now, so I thought I would write down the gist of our thinking. This should give you a sense of what to expect from the 2nd Edition, and hopefully a warm glow of anticipation!

Don’t Mess it Up!

First and foremost, we don’t want to ruin what is good about the existing game. Test of Honour has been vastly more successful than we ever expected, and it would be insane to change things so much that we lost all the wonderful, enthusiastic fans that are out there already.

So we won’t be messing around with the core rules. The game will still be quick to learn and fast to play, with those great cinematic moments as your hero slays a whole run of enemies in a single move!

Backwards Compatible

Lots of you have invested time and money in the game over the last few years, so it’s important that we don’t invalidate all that effort.

As such we won’t suddenly restrict which models you can recruit, remove weapon options or anything like that. And wherever possible stats and rules on cards will remain consistent too.

New Miniatures, New Cards

There will of course be new models… we are working with a great sculptor to get some fantastic miniatures created.

We are also thinking about putting out card sets on their own – something many of you have asked for to make it easier to play the game with different model ranges.

Rules Changes

On the whole the rules only need a bit of spit and polish. Thanks to the 32-page limit when I wrote the original mini rulebooks, there are a number of areas that could be explained better and improved with an example or two.

Chances are we’ll also include lots of the bits that are currently available in the Optional Rules, and add in the material from the Darkness and Deceit booklet as well, to create a more complete rulebook.

However, it wouldn’t be a proper 2nd edition without a few tasty new changes and additions:

Cavalry

Many of you have commented that cavalry seem too weak in the game, and there have been some fascinating Facebook threads with your ideas on how to redress the balance.

It should be clear that we don’t see a ToH skirmish as the opportunity for the thunderous, galloping, unstoppable charges you would experience in a full-scale battle wargame. Each turn lasts perhaps a second or two, so you would barely have a chance to urge your horse into motion and canter a few steps.

That said we agree the balance isn’t quite right at the moment, so we will be making some tweaks. At the same time, it’s vital not to let things swing in the other direction. ToH is an infantry game at heart, so we can’t let cav become dominant. Expect a light touch!

Honour and Dishonour

The more unscrupulous players of ToH take great glee in taking those Dishonour cards to give their hero a boost – who cares if their troops start to lose faith (Kieran Byrne I’m looking at you!).

We are playtesting a variety of new effects for the cards, so the penalty is less predictable.

But what about all those players who prefer to take a more noble path?

One of the key additions in the new version will be Honour cards. These are essentially the inverse of Dishonour cards – taking a short term disadvantage for a later boost in the courage and loyalty of your troops.

Balancing the power of these two routes will be critical, as well as keeping the path of balance between the two as a valid option.

And that’s not all…

I also have plans to flesh out the campaign system, lots of new Fate cards, as well as ideas (thanks to Jez and Andy) around adding more depth to recruitment using traits and specific Clans.

We need your help!

Needless to say there’s a lot of playtesting to do – please get in touch if you’d like to help and I’ll add you to the playtesters group! Everyone is welcome, there’s no need to be a rules expert – just play some games with the new rules and give me your feedback.

When will 2nd Edition be ready?

The quick answer is, it’ll be ready when it’s ready. However I’m aiming to publish this Summer!

More to Come…

This has been a quick(ish) recap of our ideas so far. Of course, we’ll tell you more as things come together over the coming months…

Please let us know your ideas and comments.

Thanks Dr. H, the bear is from Wizkids Deepcuts, it’s labeled as a grizzly and just came out last week. $5 or so.

Painted a little bit.

Tried tattoo/warpaint on this guys face and on his arm. His picture has tons of war paint all over, but I decided less is more.

I hate painting skin, but I think I’m getting a little better at it.

I also watched a video on NMM, didn’t have the right colors, but gave it a go on the gold goal post symbol.

Thanks Monkeytroll, the model has its ups and downs. He has muscles where they don’t exist in real life (back muscles which are on his shoulder blade, extra muscles for his 6 pack ). The mold line on his head is annoying, but the model has a few problems. His left hand has a gougebrunning down all his fingers that looks like his fingers were cleaved in half but were glued to the blade. The swords are funky designs and the blades are triangular with it being wider along the non cutting edge/spine of the blade. The spine also has mold lines as well as the cutting edge. Anyway I still like the model, so he got the paint first. I’m thinking of doing some white warpaint as well on his face.

Dropped my daughter at bible study and ran to miniaturemarket to check if they had any restock of GW sale items. Still nothing to really grab me though I picked up the Goliath gang box twice (and put it back twice ) even though the price was right I just don’t need to go back to more GW games......paints though, I did grab 5 more paints before their price rise in a few weeks. I’m trying to rebuild my paint horde so today was the color red. Couple red bases, layers and dry color.

Getting ready for my daughter to come out now. I might get some painting done tonight yet.

Love the goal post. As for the mold line on the head, why not make it a scar?

Thanks Graven, That’s my idea on it too, he is definitely someone who has been in a few scrapes.

Stopped by Walmart yesterday for cat food and saw some glow in the dark pebbles for fish tanks. They made me think of my terror chicken.

The terror chicken must either be young or looks the way they do because of the size the egg lays.

Made some quick objectives. Still wet and I’ll add some foliage to it shortly.
