What I meant was, they might have the ability to shoot a gun.. but a werewolf's finger-claws are gonna be too big to fit inside a little trigger guard loop for example. I'm sure some of them could make it work, but a skinwalker's usual method of attack is going to be to make a beeline for the nearest enemy and rip them to shreds. They're primarily melee fighters, but even Tyranids have shooty units so we can have the same thing here. I figured giving them primitive weapons would be ok, but most of them won't have any weapons at all, just claws and fangs and special attacks like venomous bits or tail swipe knockdowns. If someone wants guns in their skinwalker pack, they can always bring some human henchmen along They'll be men who were recently turned and already heeding the call of the wild.

Any plans down the road to have a blackwater gulch volunteer program?

You mean like demoing at cons? Yep Actually, you can do it now, but through Game Salute's game ambassador program.

http://gamesalute.com/volunteer/

You get Game Salute store credit for the amount of time you spend demoing, and they will also pay for your badge too if you do enough hours. They only have the next few major cons listed, but if it's not listed you can just list the con you're planning on in the comments.

I might set up my own one of these days but for now it's easier to just go through Game Salute since they already have the system in place

Cons are definitely one of the things I was thinking of, but I was mostly thinking of store demoing and what not, which the Game Salute program seems to be missing.

You could mention that in the comments part and see what they say. maybe they would let you count your store demo time toward your next con's badge or something like that?

Awwww crud. Wish I had known that prior to this weekend..

I successfully ran 3 sessions of Blackwater Gulch, for 2 hours a session. That allowed us to get in 2 scenarios per session, so, 6 total games. I had 6 players, then 8 players, and then 6 over the course of 3 days. 1 repeat person.

During each and every game, I had a player (during day 2 I had 2), whip out his Idevice and hit the website for the free download rules, and then hit GameSalute in the exhibitor hall.. When I checked in with the GameSalute folks on Sunday, they were mostly out of BWG stuff... so, there ya go.

Post con thoughts.. a GREAT time was had, people got into their gangs, and cinematic attacks and actions were attempted. During one 4 gang, winner takes the town, scenario.. it came down to 2 Henchmen trying to off each other.. the other 18 had expired..

My club saw the fun, and saw the passer-by watching us, and for next year, we are building a game board specifically for BWG events.. and have all asked me to run a few games for us to get in on the trash talking, dice slinging dirt eating fun.

We have some photos, that I will try to upload asap for y'all..

I'll see you at Gencon though I am only going to compete in the painting comps but I will swing by your stand.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

I don't have a booth or anything.. Game Salute will but I probably won't be there much. I'll be just running demos, in Hall E where all the other game salute events will be going on.. so thats where you'll find me

If i'm not there I'm probably pushing my way through the crowd somewhere. I think someone should sell special GenCon t-shirts that say "YES! You are in my way" in big letters on the front

New news!

I just received word from the manufacturer that the miniatures are all finished and just left the building. 319 pounds of metal cowboys are on their way to Game Salute's warehouse right now. I'm a wimp, and glad I don't have to lift those boxes

Next, I just got the the concept art for the Werebear, by Heath Foley. This one isn't an Alpha Skinwalker like Croatoan, so he will be more man-sized... in height anyway. The theme I was going for was instead of a native look, this would have been like a trapper or mountain man that got on the wrong side of a skinwalker one day. So he's got his poweder horn from hunting, and a little raccoon trophy left over from the good ole days before he had claws...

Here's the info from his rules:
Incredibly territorial hunters, werebears are renowned for their strength and ferocity. Their imposing size makes them a formidable foe, and they have been known to crush their victims into a bloody pulp with powerful bear-claw fists.

The bear aspect grants the Skinwalker +1 Strength, already added to their Character Card.

Pummel - in melee combat, every roll of 6 to hit lowers his target's DP by 1 for this attack.

Wadaya think?

I still haven't decided if the normal skinwalkers will be named or just generic yet.. if I do I was actually going to call him Adam Grizzlies

I think you should do both.
You can have generic skinwalkers and a few named characters. Maybe those named characters are more XP and have better stats or abilities.
A regular skinwalker can be a skinwalker, while a named one can be, either, a "Skinwalker Legend" or "Legendary Skinwalker."
So, you could always increase this guy's abilities somehow and call him, "Adam Grizzlies, Legendary Skinwalker."

Two notes:
Not fond of the name. Seems like something a kid would come up with. Adam Ursine, maybe? Hmm... even that is better in thought than spoken out loud.
Maybe Legendary Skinwalkers could have a limitation of who/what they can be aligned with?

If you do a named werewolf, maybe you could call him London? You know, like the movie... An American Werewolf in London?

Grizzeled Adam!

I don't know much about skinwalkers in the fluff of your game, but if they are just lycanthropes... could we see "pre-beast mode" versions of them sometime down the road?

I'd say lose the powder horn. It would have to have stayed on his belt for however long he's been a werebear. With those paws I dont' think he'd be able to re-attach it if it came off.

But it is a cool concept sketch!

Yes skinwalkers are just traditional lycanthropes and were-things, just with a wild west spin. But in the fluff once you turn you're stuck that way forever. I was toying with the idea of having 2 figures where 1 is human mode and the other is beast mode and you could switch around in the game, but I thought that would get too cumbersome. I'm all about making the games quick & fun.

I could call him just "Adams" and let nerds like us figure out who we mean But, I was going to just have just the Alphas be named, anything lesser would be a generic beast, so the character card would just say "Werebear" at the top.

In the fluff, once you turn the only thing on your mind is hunting, killing and eating and a lot will lose the idea of what their former self was like. Eventually after a few decades or so the rage starts to go away a little and you can start to think and plot and scheme a little better. After hundreds of years you would be an alpha commanding a large pack of all different of beats that are drawn to you. You might not be able to talk, but you can communicate with grunts and growls and a kind of 6th sense among the pack. Not exactly telepathy but similar, the beasts you command just know what you want them to do. I guess kind of hive-mind-ish in a way. An Alpha's name is usually given to him by a human hunter so they can be like "Jeepers, it's Croatoan! I'm gonna die", the alpha doesn't even have a name for himself anymore, he just knows he's the leader of the pack and that's all that matters to him.

Anyway, that's the general idea I had

Just sent an update off to Game Salute to post on the KS page, but here's the info

Howdy folks!

Sorry it's been so long since the last update. I've been posting some comments here and there, but I've been pretty busy handling the graphic design for the box art and character cards for the new models, and also painting the figures for the box photos.

As I'm sure you're aware, it's July and this is when we said you would be getting your orders, so I'm sure many if you want a status update. As of this very moment, everything we need has been ordered and things are starting to show up at the Game Salute warehouse, including 319 pounds worth of miniatures! We have about 17,000 plastic bases coming to us from the manufacturer in the UK, and the cards are all being printed up now. Everything is pretty much on schedule save for a small delay with the Secret Weapon bases, we ended up ordering a lot of those. So i'm hoping all of your orders will start going out very soon. Those of you who ordered the Battle Flag building bundle will be getting those buildings separately, they will ship directly from Battle Flag. Thank you all for being so patient, it won't be long now!

We showed the Dockside Drifters in the last update, so now I thought I'd share the finished pics of the other new gangs .. the Secret Fist, Tranquility Crew, Widowmakers and WIlde's Rangers.. here they are!

I also added some info about the new game, but I've already been posting that here. But just a few minutes ago I got the concept art for the Werecat .. here he is

Do you have any idea when these will ship? And who should I contact about changing my shipping address?

(and some day I will get around to painting and playing!)

You can just PM your info to me, I'm the keeper of the master list at the moment

I really can't say when exactly. I'm hoping as soon as the plastic bases and cards show up they'll start packing up the orders so the only ones that might be a little delayed are the secret weapon orders and I don't think those will really be delayed much.. definitely won't be 6 months late like last time

I would guesstimate most orders will start going in a couple of weeks if all goes well.. I know they have all the other stuff at the warehouse now like the battlefoam bags and gamecraft buildings, just a couple things still in transit...

they've always been lipped but the 40k style 25mm kind are fine too. In fact, the figs in the boxed game will probably have a 23mm round base so they can fit inside the 1" board squares.. and that's also the perfect size to fit inside the lip as a base topper kind of thing, if you want to.

Game Salute got my update posted on the KS page finally.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gamesalute/blackwater-gulch-rebels-and-reinforcements/posts/541589

Same as what I posted a few replies up, but they just said today that it looks like the orders will be shipping at the end of August. They said it's because they're still waiting on the cards to get finished and also a lot of 3rd party items haven't arrived yet. And then GenCon is going to happen and that puts every project on hold for like 2 weeks...

So, sorry about the delay. I'm kind of hoping the late items show up sooner than expected so they can start packing up orders sooner. Those of you who ordered Battle Flag buildings should get them in the next couple of weeks though.
