Thing 1's been working on a HB scout for a painting competition. The only thing I've done on this figure is to drill the barrel of the gun & give technical advice. Still WIP, but getting there.

Looks far better than my scouts! Is the pommel of the blade on his back going to get any color?

It's supposed to be a skull but it's kinda lumpy... we'll take a close look at it and see if it can be saved or if we have to invent a new pommel.

Well it seems that you have had a fantastic journey, and it is still going strong

I will try to remember some of your advice as my son grows up and i nudge him towards 40k

Looking forward to seeing the finished Heavy Bolter Scout, i hope he does well in the painting comp, it looks really good. Very impresed.

Safely into Christmas Eve... here's the Christmas gift...

New bases on everything save the scarabs (will do them too... just ran out of time), will also make up some new scarab bases next week. Painted his Spyders, two whip coil wraiths, two monoliths and re-painted his destroyer lord. Hope you enjoy the pics!

Don't mind the messily built 'liths.... he's just learning and they'll be a good reminder for him later to take his time.

Merry Christmas for all who celebrate, peace and good health to everyone!

Cruising in my CRASSUS ARMORED ASSAULT TRANSPORT

Your son's painting is spot-on. Just have him remember that with the eyes of his scout that he can always go back and touch up. When I was his age, I was painting up the 1980's style busman's rangers for a competition (that I was unable to attend ) I spent about an hour trying to get the eyes right. I finally did, and it was worth the bragging rights and awe I got from the others I got at my gaming club.

Happy holidays!

@Matt: Thanks!

@CK: Stole the blue from the new dex but the balls of light & swirlies were my idea.

@killy: I'll do that killy... he did really well for a figure he did entirely on his own. I think he can do whatever he wants, just a matter of his being patient enough to stick with it. Time will tell.

Here's a bit of unfinished business... needed to make some extra scarabs to go along with the Canptek Spyders. Had 5 of the good bases left and conveniently 5 bases worth of scarabs. Decided to make 3 of the bases "wound counters" with removable scarabs (magnetized). Figured he was unlikely to need more than that.

That's a super cool idea, magnetizing the scarabs. I think that you are going to need to make a lot more scarabs, however. I've started a game with 10 scarabs (only 150 points) and I've had as many as 16 on the table at one time!

Thanks... well, with these he's got 11 total... just ran out of scarabs. I have plans for building a few of the wargear scarab bases as well as some more of these guys... just need to get the little guys... and more bases. Plenty of time for that though.

Next project is painting his IC's (Imhotek & one other named character plus a cryptek).

Well, his first game with the new units and rules is complete! He did quite well. 2000 pt game vs. a footdar army that I put together. We actually used the wound counter aspect of the scarab bases too. Gotta love that!

Battle report to follow sometime soon. I'll post when I have it up.

No Orminah, sorry... however the painting style is *very* formulaic... i.e. any idiot with an airbrush and some GW washes could duplicate it. So luckily for you I don't need to adopt you for you to paint in a similar fashion yourself!

BTW, I'm working on the battle report for his first battle with the new army... going to be a good one!

I think maxmini or one of the other polish companies has their own design for them now... 4 different variations which are pretty neat. I just used the ones we had on hand, but now we're out too. He's got 11 bases worth all-together... that should get him by for a while.

After some checking...

Puppetswar does some nice "cyber beetles". 10 for $7.50 US (roughly) which isn't a bad deal.

yeah, I saw some GW ones going on ebay for $10AU (actually, it was closer to 9, but oh well)
but no bases... I'm thinking of buying both the ones avalible, but then I'd have no bases...
which would mean either buying themfrom GW, or finding ome on ebay/else where...

I got very lucky in our game... two successive turns of night fight and not one successful lightening strike. Not a very good debut for his new dakka dice!
