The second shot looks like something taken right out of a 90s White Dwarf. Right in the nostalgia!

If you buy overkill sell of the marines to buy a box of neophytes and add the Astra militarum start collecting box you have a pretty good basis for an army. The commissar can easily be converted into a second Primus. If you can get the 20% discount online that is £120 for 62 models and a tank.

Nothing new I guess. At least a confirmation some shops have the product and Codex leaks shouldnt be far away.

That back-of-codex shot would heavily imply that we're not getting a new multi-part kit for Aberrants. I wonder if they'll even be released separately, or if GW will just sell the Overkill sprues separately like the Cassius ones.

Yeah, it's a bit of a shame, I was looking forward to seeing what they'd do with multipart Aberrants.

The question why there are some shops have them in stock already is because those stores are run directly by Gameworkshop
The store in US is kinda like franchise stores, so us store get some stuff that uk doesn't have ( like the paint set for kids)

Pre-emptively getting in on the ground floor with questions now, should someone surface with access to the codex:

Can we ever take more than one Patriarch, Magus or Primus?

Can there be more than 2 Broodmind psykers in an army? Do Cult psykers still get the Telepathy discipline?

What options Brood Brothers get compared to an IG infantry platoon? Do they get command/heavy/special weapons squads, etc?

Do we get any Leman Russ variants?

Are there any anti-air options in the codex?

Well I grabbed 66 deathwatch acolytes and ordered 2 box for bit and parts. Figure I'll likely be running either 3 units of 20 or 4 units of 15 and a unit of metomorphs. Backed up 32 deathwatch neophytes and 2 more boxes of those. I'm building a horde. Trucks might not have an initial place in my list but I'll grab some for fun long run.

My question is is there a super detachment/decurion style detachment or is it a collection of detachments and a force org?

My understanding from the video on Warhammer TV is that there IS a faction formation called the 'cult uprising'. I also think I read somewhere that you can only take 1 magus, patriarch and primus per 'cult uprising' formation.

This is just my understanding based on what was said in the video.

100% not a normal force org ( unlike Marine 1HQ + 2troop)
It is more like the necrons one, the top box is HQ , the middle box is Troop and the button box I can't remember what it is. they are the basic unit you need to carry to from a detechment
here is what it said you can only have magus, patriarch and primus
And then other "box" you may choose to take

We'll find out soon enough eh.

I just realised looking at the back of the box photos - they have a proper, oldschool Flamer as well. That makes me irrationally happy.

Honestly, I can't tell whether what we're seeing is a GW studio that's run out of ideas and is cynically mining out the nostalgia of their back catalogue, or a GW studio that's been freed by recent hierarchical changes to indulge their own passion for stuff that was previously verboten, but frankly I don't care either way as long as they keep giving us kits like that.

At this point, I'm almost hoping we don't see 8th Edition for a long, long time and they just keep giving us new mini-factions - Arbites and Sisters would let us represent pretty much every Imperial military force on the tabletop, and the mini-faction format increases the likelihood we'll see new minor Xenos races.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

Looking at the picture of the back of the codex, you can also see on the Leman Russ a few Cult Icons which I presume you get from the mentioned but as yet unseen Genestealer Cult Upgrade Sprue.

Do you mean rules only or fluff as well? That is why I think the Tyranid codex is not great. Forget about the rules at the moment, the fluff is not good at all there. Here is hoping Robin Cruddace stays far away from the Genstealer Cult codex.

This is why we need a thumbs up here on Dakka. Very well said.

Seems like chaos cultists would mix in nicely auto guns and hoods. To bad I converted mine to loyalist PDF. This release feels like a kit basher's dream. Sighs and looks at unfinished projects, guess nids will have to wait. So much want!

As someone who doesn't play current 40K even I am excited by this. This is great news for people who play Inquisitor28 or Inquisimunda...or Necromunda. The arming of the miniatures would make a perfect line-up of models for a gang in Necromunda (you'd just have to choose a house, etc.).

I really get the feeling these are figures produced by a few people at GW who have a bit of that nostalgia. As someone who enjoys other sci-fi games as well, cool models are cool models. The leaked price info is hugely disappointing though.

The models as a whole are great looking though - arguably better than a large amount of the 40K range available.

While the kit price itself is a sore spot for some, I would say that the amoung of bits left for conversion offsets some of that.

I find the price of the basic troops to be reasonable for the type of kit released. And the acolyte box is actually cheaper than the direction and products they were releasing for the same thing not even a year ago. I'll happily take it. They can't drop prices but they can price new stuff more reasonably and do bundies for old stuff and that's what they're doing.

Plus you'll probably see a Start Collecting boxed set surface in the not too distant future, which should make core units more affordable.

No plan of start collecting set as I heard
As you can just grab a deathwatch overkill which contains all 3 HQ and basic core unit for a fair price

Damn, those are some nice looking kits. Interesting that there is a Ymargl factor Hybrid. So the Metamorphs are more Genestealer-like.

I am curious what sort of effect the big drill-dozer will have on stuff like Ramming.

As someone with experience in the mining industry, I can safely say that they actually bear a strong resemblance to modern day dump trucks. With a little artistic license thrown in of course. The scales a little off for example, but the basics are there, big chunky tires, grab rails, flat bed, enclosed cab.

But then if your only experience is children's toys and cartoons, then I can see how you'd draw such a comparison.

I think that at most the Patriarch is unique, but even that is questionable.
