I literally only just bought my paint set before these came out...I'm a bit annoyed the staff didn't mention this substancial change was about to happen! However maybe it was lucky in someways...as long as I have enough to paint my scavvies then I don't mind switching colours sets for future projects.

@Rob: They couldn't tell you so, or they didn't know. A friend is GW staff and he told me few of them even knew, and those who did signed a non-disclosure agreement when they were showed the new colors. I bought my mega paint set a couple months back and tend to agree, maybe it's a good thing. 435€? I know myself well enough, I might have bought that... This way, I'll buy just the ones I need and save some money.

Painting of the Remora drone has begun. PIPs tomorrow.
And as a sidenote painting Tau is almost science. I've been studying squad markings, heraldy, tau language and military code for days now, it's crazy!

It's been a bit quiet round here, but don't think I've been lazy. The remora is still pip, but I couldn't spend too much time on it the last two days.

Today I've worked on Hope, Samarianne's doggy. Peter is successfully trying to stoke up some rivalry between me and Cadaver and now it's a race who can finish his PMW entry first (some 8 months after the deadline).
Progress on Hope had been slow to non-existant the last time I worked on it. And in order to break the ice I replaced most components that gave me trouble. Hope now has a new head, mouth, back shield, chest plate and so on. I'm quite happy with the first mock-up and with a bit of luck I'll start gs work within the next two work sessions.

My interest is piqued! How different is the dog from the original that we were watching during the PMW?

And also, if I didn't say it before, your Remora with those wild gatling guns... friggin' HAWT. Again, meticulous with the toothpics for equal spacing... (lol... who does that!??)

Keep 'em coming... about ~halfway through ME3... I'll be starting on Ezio from Assassins' Creed 2, Edward "Full Metal" Elric, and Garrus very VERY soon. I'll probably be tapping you, Vit and PDH for advice/critique to make them great.

How different Hope is from what you saw during PMW is hard to say, since nobody really saw anything of it. I can tell you though, it's very different. The main body, his mechanical spine and the apparatus that leads to his genitals stayed the same. Everything else has changed.

Sorry guys, no pictures for the moment. I'm not in the mood for hobby stuff, procrastinating online is all I'm up to atm.
I just received news of the passing of my grandmaster, Zhang Wanfu, a legend and a true friend. May he rest in peace.

I hope nobody minds last night's odd post. It's a little strange to find an eligy in a painting and modelling blog, but I felt it was right to pay Zhang respect in any possible way.
Anyway I recovered from the first shock and life goes on, so let's spend it on things worthy of our limited time. In our case that's without a question toy soldiers!

Today I feel like a major update to get things going in here, so there will be two news items and plenty pictures.

First off the promised pictures of the Remora drone from before I started painting. The base features a small imperial hideout, where a sole survivor made camp in the lee of a pillar. There is the half buried tire he used as chair and the compack to send his distress calls, his empty water canteen and his bedroll. What happened to him we don't know, but since he left his las gun and equipment, it must have caught him by surprise. :

Next up some pictures of the OLD Hope. Practically nothing from this version made it to the current rendition. As you can see Samarianne is still a proxy in the pictures, so you can tell it's from last year during the actual competition.
Even though everything changed you can roughly tell what I'm going for and you can also see the base model.

Ok maybe now you're even more curious to see what has changed, because I can tell you, it's starting to look badass now, unlike the first version, which looked clumsy and static.

I had a little time to work on Hope today and I made very good progress. I sculpted the basic layer of the connection between mouth, head and shoulders, to get a foundation to work on. This means I have finalized the position of Hope's head which gave me trouble before.

I'm obviously not showing pictures of Hope's body yet, but I've also started detailing Hope's spine by installing the base of the tesla coils that power the augmentations. Here are some pictures of various bits I'll use and the spine itself:

Well, if that is the range of difference between Mk I and Mk II, I can tell you that I'm quite excited to see a picture! Oh, look! Baiyuan posted a WIP picture of Hope!

Sorry about the lost of your master I gather he was a true inspiration to you, now to the model earlier work had me drooling and I have to ask where is the miniature from originally ?

It amazes me how you look at parts and just mould them together to create master pieces, what I gather will be the spine looks crazy what are those parts from ?

I know this is asking a lot but can we have a break down of where and what the parts are ?

I did not look at the sneak peek as i thought it must be some kind of joke, no way are you going to give that away, then I read further down that it was a hack so I went back and had a look.

It reminds me of those dam dogs from the first HULK movie or the mask ……...

what an update... that tau drone is sooo cool (and i hate tau!) plus omg omg omg, i love that dog HOW DID YOU MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE IT!!!!

Thanks, actually I am using a tyranid head for Hope, but a different one in a more subtle way.

Ok, let me narrow it down. The dark parts were sculpted by me. The metal parts are scrap I cut off of the base head and will not be used, it's the nose and lower jaw, which I replaced. The rest is from GW kits of three different races.

I think I see some trimmed SM missles, and part of a devastator multi melta backpack. Anywhere close?

On point, spare missiles minus tips and fins. And the power coupling of a multimelter backpack. Two thumbs up!
