I knew about illegal aliens, but can you even be illegaly blind? WAIT a second, do you even have the permission to be blind around here? You're going to jail son if you don't start seeing right NOW!... Just kidding. Sorry, bad joke, I know...
Laying out all bits next to each other is just for the camera, normally they are either in the project box where they await later consideration or they are tacked to the model to get an impression of the status quo. If I find a better solution the bit on the model is being replaced, at the same time I adjust the fit, add first details etc.. I continue to adjust, replace and rearrange until I think the overall impression is harmonic, which can take a while as you may have noticed.
Little progress today, I've been a bit lazy inbetween my daily duties. I found an important new detail for Hope's head though, the mechanical hinges of the jaw, to be precise. I also invented a small mounted futuristic gun, that will make a future appearance on some inquisitors or techpriests shoulder.
For tomorrow I'm planning the next breakthrough. My current problem is I still have no idea how to sculpt Hope's armor, but I'm going to just start by sculpting the head tomorrow and I'm sure the rest will follow once it's done.

Yeah thanks again, even more severe than the personal loss is the loss of knowledge and wisdom. He was one of the very few legends (and I mean it absolutely literally) who still lived and had the old knowledge. The cultural revolution has destroyed so much and most masters died or emigrated and vanished in some backwater place. He was known all over China even to people who weren't affiliated to martial arts and he probably took more untought knowledge to his grave than most people will aquire during their lifetime. So it's not merely the passing of a man, but a piece of tradition that died with him. I totally understand. When I was in Japan, I started learning nagauta (long-song) shamisen from a "living treasure" teacher. The lessons were expensive, but what I noticed was it was only old people learning/interested. I was by far the youngest, next being the manager at my school at around 45 something. I've often thought what'll happen to the art when he's gone, if any one of his senior students can step up and teach others, and with so many of them old, how long before it's a piece of history and no longer in practice.
Martial arts is a bit more... practical (? I don't know how to express it, but more easy to stomach the reason for taking it up and more popular), so I hope that he taught most of what he knew, instead of taking it with him.
And no, definitely NOT a challenge for the mega-head. I'm sure you could do it, but I'm also certain your vision for the current one surpasses one you're thinking of as a challege/joke...

True, but on the other hand the martial aspect is only part of it, the one that attracts people, but in the end it's culture, not just asskicking. Few people approach the martial arts as they should be as a lifelong study and an allencompassing philosophy. So even though my grandmaster had many successors none of them is even close to the knowledge he had. His oldest and best student was only 10 years younger than him and almost as good as him, but sadly he died years before my grandmaster.

It's always sad to hear about the passing of a master. As has been mentioned, I hope he had the chance to pass on his knowledge to others. While some of his wisdom may be gone, he has encouraged you and others to follow in his footsteps, in part. If everyone still sees martial arts as just asskicking, but a few still embrace the culture and philosophy, your grandmaster's knowledge will never really be lost. Perhaps it will be you who finds it?

The term master in itself is a controversial one, nobody who deserves the title would call himself master. Following the usual criteria I'd be a master too and there are so many guys out there who call themselves master and are in fact completely ignorant to the whole idea of being one. Actually one can only be a master in the eyes of his disciples (not ordinary students), they will call him that, but it's not a title you would put on your business card.
Anyway, what I want to say is, I'd consider myself to be one of the guys who carry the torch and make sure it will never go out. I'd also consider myself being one of the true followers of martial arts and that I know way more than your average "master", never forgetting though that we all basicly know nothing and that we'll never be good (enough). In the Book of Rites it says 学然后知不足,教然后知困 "Only after you have learned, you'll know your own deficiencies, only after you have taught you'll know the intricacy of things."
So like I said, I carry the torch and therefore I know how much has been lost and that it's lost for good, beyond any chance of recovery. C'est la vie.
But maybe we should stay on topic here. I know I started this and I enjoy rambling about it, but that's not what we're here for, so let's talk miniatures.
I've been asked more than once what the base model for Hope was and although I've already answered the question I'll post a link for those who are not familiar with Big Boris' company:

I'm converting the standing one:
Be careful though, they are quite large! Normal humans could even ride them, they are not your usual familiar/pet.

I think I might have to keep that ingenious idea (modest, I know) to myself, but we will see, either you figure it out yourself or it's me being chatty. You will know one way or the other.
fair enough guv´
but i will remind you that you wanted to explain it to me again when you least expect me to^^ so then i take you unaware^^

So? Did you find something?
I actually just had an idea, so you didn't take them all as it seems. I was musing about fighting with a shield and that beside the transhuman henchman Götz I'd like to have another member of the retinue to be a walking bulwark. So I brainstormed for an Arbites with riot suppression equipment. I thought about including an Arbites before, but this time it got more concrete. I'm not going to start this one any time soon, since I still have sooooo many open projects and others I won't be able to help myself but to start them as soon as possible (like my gunsmith conversion basing on the empire technicus coming out on friday). But the plan's in my head and when I get to it I'll convert me a nice futuristic judge with riot shield and a short shock lance type of weapon.
