One problem: I wanted to put together some marines, but my workbench is covered with bits and dust of foam. Makes a huge mess.

In other news, polished off the driver, so the Vindi is officially done. I know the siege shield is not even started, but it’s an accessory. Even if an iconic and large one. But the tank is fieldable, so here we are.

Looks really nice Nev. Get a layer of dust or mud around the bottom and it'll be fantastic!

Weathering scares me. Someday I might add it, but for now we are parade ground clean.
GrimDork wrote:Looks good to me, one more cog in the ever turning ultramarine war machine right

The vindi is equal parts “I love the way it looks” and “Eat hot death from S10 AP2 5” ordinance pie plate” Looking forward to fielding it.

And now, for a big tease:

A friend of mine received a box of 40k stuff 3rd hand from a different friend. I know it had been collecting dust on his shelf for a while now, and he has next to no interest in 40k, so I asked if he would mind parting with it. He said “sure”. So I now owe him a random favor to be called in later, and have a box of RT/2nd ed stuff to sift through. I did a quick overview last night, but it’s going to require a bit of digging to figure out what’s in there. Most of what’s still in the box is ’nids. Including genestealer cultists. How timely! I know there were a few ‘stealers in there, but didn’t realize there were cultists.

I’ll try to sift it before Flashback Friday.

Quick painting WIP. Captain is almost done. I need to do his cape, which will still take a bit of work, but I wanted to glue him together first so the shoulders matched. Also, so I could hold him by the base while I worked. Month is only about half over, plenty of time to finish. Although I will be out of town for a short trip at the end of the month. I really need to get going more on the terrain project. I think that’s going to slip away from me if I’m not careful.

He looks great Nev. Very tight. I think you're ready to push yourself & expand some of your painting skills to learning some new techniques. Character models are great for this because they don't look out of place if they're a bit different than the rank-and-file.

Not a lot of change from the last pic. Highlighted the cloak by blending a little yellow into the red, and then red washing the whole thing. Basic baseing.

Now to figure out what to paint next. Put a coat of blue on the RT era backpack for the Lt. I was working on a little bit ago. I’d like to put together a few more guys, but the terrain project has taken over my workbench. Total mess.

Well March is more then half over, so lets do the Q1 review.
2 vehicles (dread, vindi)
2 bikes (jetseer, windrider)
6 infantry (BaC captains, RT Lt., marauder, 2 spare bike riders)

So by my math, that’s 18 model equivalents, ahead of the 12 I should have at this point. Eldar getting some good progress. Half a squad done, and as my goal is 2 full squads for the year, on track there.

He looks great Nev. The gold turned out great & really looks good against the blue.

Well done, matey. On both the captain and the amount done in Q1.

How is the terrain piece coming on?

Thanks guys. The lighting might be a little off, but not by a lot. I think between his pose and the cape, he’s going to be in a bit of his own shadow no mater what I do. More light from the front might help a bit, but not enough for me to take more pics.

A little progress on the terrain:

Put some fresh batteries in the wirecutter. These said “best used by 2013", rather then the 2004’s that were in there. HUGE difference. A few notes: those things heat up fast. And get hot. I switched it on and didn’t notice anything happening. I then rubbed the switch against the contact points a few times to help get a better connection. When I lightly touched the wire (which I had been doing safely before) to check, I got a little burned. But boy does that thing carve through the foam now!

Next step will be to print a slightly larger template, and rough carve the gate/hill. After that will be the smoothing, painting, details, etc.

Not sure how much will be done this week. Flying down to Louisville Thr-Sun for my dad’s 70th birthday, Easter, and to go to a college basketball game. The Wife is home sick today, so I need to pamper her, in addition to all the stuff I need to do to get ready for the trip.

For those about to swim, we salute you!

A bit ago, I culled out some old RT stuff to be striped.

Today was the day to take The Dip. But I wanted some pics of the old guys before they went in. Most of the BA are already documented, but I wanted a good shot of the commanders.

Also, I don’t think I ever got a pic of the old PC force from our time playing RT as an RPG. Simple pattern, with a freehand logo. Some of you might recognize the ship and planet symbol from the old Lego space sets. It was within my skillset at the time to do by hand.

Thank you for your years of service, loyal brothers. May you be reborn again to fight once more for the glory of Mankind!

Liking the finish you get with your painting, the captain looks very nice and the vindicator is stunning.

Glad you like them!

I’m back. Good trip, no major issues. Good to be home though.

Did a little building and shuffling around today. Quick quiz! What kind of tank does this look like to you?

Spoiler:

If you said "Damocles Command Rhino” I got it right

Going to magnetize the options so I can run it with the stalker guns or as this.

Took a look at the random terminators I have kicking around.

If I strip some of my old BAs, and file the DA symbols/feathers off of some stormbolters, I should be able to make 2 full 10 man squads. Sarge, 2xHeavies, 3 chainfists, 4 basic guys per squad. I still have some spare parts if I wanted to make some more, but mostly it’s just DA bodies and heavy weapons. I do have some GKs, a librarian looking guy, and an inquisitor left though. My limiting factor is stormbolters and powerfists. I guess if they ever go back to 2 heavies per 5 man squad, I’d be set.

Started taking a toothbrush to the guys in the dip. Massive pain. Literally. There is a finite amount of time I can do that without my hands turning into cramped claws of pain. The paint that had been in contact with superglue looks like it’s going to be rough to get off. I didn’t get anything too clean, so I just tossed everything back into the drink. I might swap out the simple green for a fresh batch and see if that helps any.

Next on my to do list is to build an apothecary and a master of signals. I was thinking of using one of the targeter fists from a TDA CML and putting it on the MoS. Seems a good way to call down an orbital strike.

Thinking about 30k squads I could do with 5-8 spare bodies. Which is rough, since most want to be large. Destroyers or a support squad could work. I also might want to put together a pair of gunners so I could use my TFC as a thudd gun.

That's a very clever conversion Nev. I may have to try something like that myself.

When I saw the big radar dish, and noticed the teleport homer fit nicely on one of the sides, it was just a matter of cobbing something together for the other side.

On the topic of WYSWYG checks What does this guy look like to you?

Spoiler:
Master of Signal 30k Consul

He’s just tacked together right now, so plenty of room to mod him if he’s not getting the point across, or anyone has ideas on how to improve him.

My guess was going to be a devastator sgt. w/ signum.... which is basically very similar (for 40k).

Hmm. Probably right. One of my worries with him is that he doesn’t really say “HQ choice”. Paint might help with that. Might go helmetless. Or a more fancy shoulderpad. Could try adding a little more bling to him, but what and where is an issue.

Yeah, absolutely no issue there. Consuls tend to be quite plain in most Legions unless they're something fancy like a Chappy or Champ ect.

I think it might be worth making the backpack bigger and more sophisticated-looking. I like the BFG antenna, but it needs more....?

I was thinking about shaving off one of the vents and putting on a bulkier antenna, but decided against it. Not sure what else to do to it. I do like the BFG bits for adding extra detail to things. If I didn’t have them in my box, those antenna would just be lengths of wire, and not nearly as cool. I think I am going to hang one of those scroll case things off his belt to hold orders. Seems appropriate for him.

"Death or healing... I care not which you seek"

Shaved the belt accessories off the modern apothecary torso. Backpack, arm, and shoulderpad are also from the command squad kit. Rest is BaC. Not pictured is the holstered needle pistol from the RTB01 sprue. Might also try to get a normal bolt pistol and a few more pouches on there, but there was enough stuff sticky-tacked to him I didn’t feel like adding more.

And while it’s not much painting progress, a backpack done and added to the Lt. He still needs to be based, but so does most of my collection.

I still need to decide on what I want to do for the Relic. Leaning for 30k terminator armor, but the temptation to do an ancient bit of RT lead is strong. I’d kinda like to get those lightning claw guys done and on the table though.

Speaking of RT minis being put to use: Here is the final squad shot of the 1st squad, 3rd co.

As I base them, I’m going to get formal shots done, so the whole company can be showcased. Will be a while, but it’s one of my goals to get nice pics of everyone.

And some progress:

Built and glued. Awaiting prime. Which, as we have about 3” of snow ( ) on the ground now, might be a bit.

And some paint. Just the first slop of blue, but progress!
