Very cool stuff all-round graven.

Cheers! It's just Nihilakh Oxide, slightly thinned, then dry brushed with vj arctic white
Olthannon wrote:Absolutely love da killa egg.

Well then you should enjoy the upcoming nonsense

Da Keg. In Victoria Bitter (Viktorkia?) colours.

Ridiculous thing. Lots of fun. Unashamedly quick and dirty paint job. And as we're talking about ridiculous orky things...

Tomas Da Tank.

Perfect as a tracked buggy, designed so folk can just jump on and hang on the back.

Very silly, I have another munda tractor too, it's going to be green I think as it feels more tanky.

Meanwhile, more work on the Hoth scenery.

Crevasses! Mdf bases also added to the rebel outposts.

And the beginning of rocks (very dull)...

And sprue trenches (much less dull)...

... And the trenches after knifing putty.

What's next? Aside from painting the Hoth tiles, that is.

Well, March is always Space Marines for the monthly dakka painting challenge. My plan is to do the Terror from Below set for Shatterpoint - aquatic Separatists seem to fit the bill of Space and Marine, after all.

That being said, there will be actual Marines down the line, some oldhammer stuff thanks to the mighty Gitsplitta and the legendary Solar_Lion; my vague plan is to do some Novamarines, though it may just be a mix of RT schemes. Looking further ahead, I suspect more orks, some oldhammer eldar, and a return to Venice with some more 3d printed Carnevale for Guild and Rashaar. Trying to limit expenditure, as ever.

I'm loving the ork vehicle scratch bashes, great work! The quick and dirty look is actually really effective as well.

I love the ork stuff! The paint jobs are wonderfully cartoony... just like MY stuff! How big is that traktor? Small enough to be a grot tank?

Thanks Far be it from me to suggest that they are very much that tiny size and it's very definitely deliberate

Bit more tanky, bit more... grotty

And...
Hoth rocks!

Under each snow stack is a sprue nubbin, just to give the pile of VJ snow something to grip onto and hold.

Plus

Simple trench system. Just the AT-ATs to go!

So, are you going to add gretchin? It does make the tanks more fun!

Finally, got an ork painted to meet graven's Ork-off challenge. Model, care of Solar-lion, inspiration care of graven! (thanks buddy)

Oh definitely, once I track some down, or print some.

Cheers! Might need to kitbash some more down the line. Quite fancy some sort of racer.

Thanks; sadly my attempts to print tiny AT-ATs have failed so ...

QAqq
I cut a Star Wars Rebellion AT-AT up with my jewellery saw, and hey presto! Granted, it's slightly smaller than the Hoth walkers, but it's a wreckage marker so I'll live. And its scales are all over the place anyway, the infantry are 20mm! However... This got me thinking: Rebellion AT-STs are perfectly in scale with the Battle of Hoth AT-ATs, and that's a scale relationship that does matter visually to me. Now there aren't official AT-ST rules but they were in the playtest version which is knocking about Reddit PLUS the advantage of Hoth being a Memoir '44 reskin makes it really easy to find an analogous unit.

Meanwhile, my lovely old cosplay chum TALONSWORD_FOUNDRY fdm printed me a little something:

I mean I say little. That's a chunky chapel right there. Venetian Chiesa for Carnevale, from their My Mini Factory store.

I have not, sadly, got much else done paint wise. Little miss has been unwell, and 9 hrs sleep in 4 days is not conducive to sanity, never mind painting. I've got the first washes and drybrush on, but that's it.

Mind you, some of my best ideas don't have anything to do with sanity

More oldhammer nonsense. Sniper and big shoota to flesh out the Kommando list. Plasma and a riot shield just i liked the idea. Lamenter arm on the ork just cos don't mind the minifigs BTW

Terror from Below!

Riff Tamson, Karkaradon Commander

Now that's what I call a Space Shark!

Nossor Ri, the Usurper

I've always had a soft spot for the Quareen as a race, I don't know why.

Aqua Droids

I really enjoyed doing the bases on these. I wasn't sure how the Kamino flooring in particular would turn out, but it's stark and simple.

And continuing the SW theme, some more scatter.

The bogwing seems to have got lost en route from Dagobah, but never mind. Poor little gonk droid! I do love the odd crates and critters in Shatterpoint, really helps it feel like a lived-in universe. These came with the outer rim Outpost, which is cool but getting upgrades.

By upgrades, I mean a Medge door and bits lol. Well, and a ladder.

And Chiesa has had a zenithal prime

So the buildings are probably next, though there's a fair few orks to come. Also Hondo and his pirates, finishing off Shatterpoint for now. 3D printer is acting up, but did get a dancing girl printed, who might be a good palette cleanser / chance to play about with transparent cloth techniques.
Ahem.

I hope the little miss is feeling better.

I've said this before, but all the SW stuff you paint fascinates me. I'm not familiar with anything outside of the films, so everything is exciting and new to me. Everything looks great, as always, but the bases on this set really stand out-- your water effects are top notch.

Now clearing some unfinished projects!

Painting total as of 19 February 2026: 19

Painting total as of 12/31/2025: 152 plus a Deva King statue

Thanks! Yeah he's a nasty piece of work, and I love how they designed a dynamic aquatic base for him.

Well, she's a bit brighter, if a moody wee madam. You're most kind, thanks - you can get a lot of mileage out a bit of VJ Turquoise, deck tan and snow effects!

I was chatting with Gits offline and I realise I've been on dakka nearly 20 years. Extraordinary.

A wee break from the orkathon - though in truth work on their skin has started - with more terrain!

This the Chiesa Cupola(church) from the Carnevale My Mini Factory (3D prints). Very pleased with it.

I think on balance they should've made the lanterna flat at the very top, it could've easily supported a 30mm mini that way.

However, i suppose the counter argument is it stops flyers stealing objectives and camping.

Of course, some flyers are bigger than others...

And a bit of SW terrain also, the finished Outer Rim Outpost

On the other side you can see where I've added the ladder

Stormtroopers for scale

Maybe even they'll hit with a gun that big :dakkadakka:

As noted, more on the orks next. Absolutely delighted to have placed 2nd in last month's dakka painting with the first batch of Ork raiders, and 5th for the year overall - don't think I've even made top 10 before. 2025 was about improving quality, and really do feel I have done so; hopefully will continue to improve. In the meantime, thanks for all your support!

As I told you in our chat... I absolutely love your paint job on that building. Everything is spot on! Well done my friend... it's very realistic and convincing (at least to me).
