More paint down on my mini cityfight table.  Just thought I'd post because i know i see a lot of folks lookin around here for ideas ^_^;

This is just something I've been thinking of doing for a few days now, and now that i've gotten around to it, i'm really really pleased with how it's come out.  Street markings really give everything a very 'lived in' feel.  and bring much needed color and focus to an often forgotten but important piece of terrain.  The street.

Comments welcome ^_^!

i think it looks awsome, but if i can make some constructive critisism maybe put some cracks in the road considering there is crater in it

It's a great piece of scenery, I especially like the way you put the thought into cutting in the smaller curbs between the sidewalks and the streets. It could use a little more wear and dirt, tho. Right now the paint all looks pretty fresh, with some light gouges and scratches the paint below would show through, although I could just be missing details because of the small photo. Try working some of the rock and rubble from the gutters out onto the street. As it is now it looks like a street sweeper came by right after the battle and cleared a nice path for cars.

Being a little more anal: If it's an Imperial city, it seems like the ?No parking? text would have been done in blackletter. The base of the signpost is very early twentieth-century looking?it's a dead ringer for a lot of the ninety-year-old ones in my neighborhood.

Good point on the rock and rubble on the street.

I did dirty up the paint a little bit, it might not be showing too well here.  But possibly some more couldn't hurt.

As for being an imperial city, i'm really not too worried about making this one super 40k looking.  And luckily the fluff lets me get away with that ^_- thanks to all the different societies within the imperium!  And that signpost is from a twentieth century dollhouse accessorry, so it could very well be the signpost down the street ^_-;;;

I think it looks great and I agree with your concept: there is no need for cracks in the asphalt, as any from the craters would be covered up by the craters themselves, and there wouldn't be any from regular wear & tear if the road had been repaved remotely recently (that's why there's fresh paint, no? )

As far as rubble goes, I'd just be sure to throw a bunch out near where any buildings have been demolished. Even still, right now it looks fantastic, this is one heck of a project you've taken on and thanks for sharing your progress with us.

I think that all of the colors and 'fresh' paint look of everything gives this piece a vibrance of life and puts it in present tense.  Unlike most cities you see on any given day in 40k where 'countless wars have been fought over this very terrain', this one looks and feels like the war is happening RIGHT NOW.

I'll post more pictures as things progress.
