I was happy that the PS3 is out, but the price really dampened my excitement on getting one. BUT.... I found out that there are going to be a bunch of Wii in the area stores. I went to Best Buy and asked one of my buddies if there was any need to wait outside the store all night. He said just be there before opening and you will get one. LOL Anywho, I'm rather excited to get my Wii. From what I have seen and read about it, it looks like there is great possiblilites for future games. But, we shall see. Anyone else getting a Wii?

A mate of mine waited from 6pm yesterday to whenever they opened today to get his.
I'm not, personally, but that's because I don't like consoles.

Well I picked it up last night at midnight and it is a fantastic little piece of hardware. Sports is a great party game and Zelda is fantastic. The Wii Remote and nunchuck are intuitive and easy to use. This is going to be huge I think. It's already outsold the PS3, though considering the limited numbers of PS3 thats not a suprise. Even though they sold all the launch systems there will be more ready before Christmas in greater numbrs and I expect they will sell out to. The more people play the more this things is going to sell.

One of my former students visited three places and all three were sold out. Some of them restocked only an hour or less before she showed up.

my brother-in-law got the Wii so we played a little Wii Sports today. a lot of fun. tennis was a little hard to get the hang of at first, but it was still a good game. Boxing was a TON of fun. we really tired ourselves out with it because we didn't know what we were doing so we just flailed about till the other guy went down. good times.

I just found a place that was doing a lottery and went there. I only had to wait a little bit in line to get a ticket but thats about it. They had 25 systems and about 200 people showed up. There were already people lined up at other stores like Best Buy so that meant less names to pull from. My wife got picked and a freind of mine that showed up did to. Not bad for an hour wait, especially after seeing the people who were waiting 12 hours or more for stores to open the next day.
Boxing is fun, but it doesn't seem to really match up with what you are doing to much off screen. Bowling seems to be the most accurate and golf is fun, if not a bit sensitive.

Well, I got my Wii. (still sounds strange) I worked from 11pm to 7 am and right across from where I work is a Best Buy. I changed my clothes and headed straight for BB. I got there and there was a line of 24 people in front of me. Not long after I got there, the BB reps came out and said that they have 24 systems. After they left, I went through and talked to the people in front of me to see if there were couples that were counted. Nope. All 24 were taken. *sniff* *** wait for it *** *** wait for it *** On of the guys in front of me said that his wife was over at Target and she was early in the line. He said that if she gets one, he would give me his spot. 5 minutes before they were to hand out the tickets (the BB guys handed out tickets to ensure the people there in line would get one) the guys wife called and he gave his spot in line up. Funny, I was called "Guy in Blue Jean Jacket with the last ticket", and there was this one dude behind me, just giving me the "Evil Eye". As soon as the guy gave his spot up, the wind kicked up and we all froze our butts off. Then the BB guys came out and said that they were only going to take in 3 people at a time (grrrrrrrr....). So, after being there from 7am to 9:47am, I finally got my hands on my Wii !! I also picked up Rayman: Rabbid Rabbits (or whatever that game is called) and Legend of Zelda (of course). The group that was behind me waited in line to see if there were any left over (I guess 2 of the people that waited for the PS3 had their CC declined! D'OH! ) I got mine purchased and rushed out the door as they told the others that they had no more. Intresting thing, the "Evil Eye" guy started to follow me out the door. I walked to my car and as I hopped into the car, he was not that far from me. Closed the door and drove off and the guy was waving me down. Now, I don't know what his intentions were, but my lack of sleep helped increase my paranoia. I just took off. He was probably going to offer me 2X the asking price. Oh, well. My loss. I ended up getting it home and crashed into my bed. Well, unless my wife decided to open it sooner, I'm going to have to wait until Christmas to play with my Wii. Oh, well. It was worth it.

You're all lucky. I was going to get a Wii, but on Friday my girlfriend (who is a dead-broke college student) had her bike stolen. So I get to buy her a new one. Then, while she visiting her family out of town, her car died. Guess who gets to make payments on a new one? No Wii for me, at least not for a while.

Hey is the Wii worth it?? Or is it just another Nintendo Gimmick?? That's what I am struggling with. So far I'd get it for Zelda, but I am not a huge Die Hard Zelda fan, but it looks interesting. I almost bought a game cube a while back, when I worked for Ebgames, but I never got around to it.
Ray man seems like it could be fun...Maybe even Trauma Center, kooky and a bit wierd.
I have a hard time considering the Wii to be next gen, compared to the PS3 and the Xbox 360, which I do own (Gears of War rocks, even though I suck at it on Xbox Live!) Anyway, what are your thoughts?? Save my money and put it towards 360 stuff?? Get some mini's which I am also hugely in?? Or possibly break down and buy this weird game console??
Let me know what you think!

So far with my Wii experience it depends on the game. Games that are ports or multi-console are ok. Games designed specifically with the Wii in mind tend to be much better than ones that try and shoehorn the gaming mechanics onto the Wii Remote.
If your not sure just wait and get more 360 and mini's and wait to see how the games turn out over time to see if it justifies it. Zelda and Rayman (while cross platform I believe was thought up for the Wii first and taken to other systems as opposed to the other way) are great games on the Wii. Call of Duty 3 is ok. Trying to replicate mouse and keyboard doesn't actually work as well as it would seem. You try to point the weapon at something and you end up moving the entire screen and have to correct again.
I imagine Metroid will show the path to FPS Wii greatness as it's built from the ground up with the Wii in mind.

@Ahtman:
Thanks for the reply! I really appreciate it. I figured that games meant for the Wii and design with the Wii in mind would be far better than those ported over. I did hear, from ign, that CoD3 while a good game, didn't really have great controls. They said that in open terrain it was really good, but in the city fights, and other close quarter combats, it wasn't so hot.
I might just stick with my 360 and give it more time to see if it becomes gimmicky or if it really takes off. I know I wasn't impressed with the DS, so I think blowing 300plus dollars for a Wii and Zelda, along with a PPP (product protection plan) would probably be a waste.
Any other thoughts??
Thanks
Chappy P!

Well, I have played it, but not the one I bought. That is hidden in the closet and waiting for Christmas. But, I'm a patient man. Sort of. From what I have read, alot of online reviewers said that for Rayman, it is a very funny game. They said that if you have no since of humor, you will not laugh. One thing that I saw is one of the mini-games was there is a choir of around 10 to 15 rabbits. You have to try and locate the one that is off tune. You point the wiimote at one and from the speaker on the wiimote, you will be able to single out one of the rabbits. When you find the one that is off tune, you smack him with the wiimote. I don't know if I'm just messed up in the head, but I found that one really funny. But there are over 70 min-games in Rayman. I picked that one up and Zelda. That is the one that I really want to play. Once I get to open it, I will do a complete report on both games. Hopefully sooner than later. ;~)

One of the more innovative games in Rayman is one where you have to sneak a pig through a field that has rabbids hiding in the ground waiting to get you. What makes it interesting is that you have to hold the Wii Remote, which has a built in speaker, to your head and listen for them while trying to tip toe around with the nunchuck. Rayman is quite hysterical. Rzyman and Zelda are the two titles I would recommend picking up.

I appreciate your advice guys, but the Wii will have to wait. Best Buy had some good sales this morning and I ended up buying a few Xbox 360 games, namely the Outfit, Condemed, Call of Duty 2 and Rainbow 6 Vegas, which has amazing graffics!! It is so sweet.
But I think Gears of War ruined many 360 games for me. R6: Vegas, uses cover quite a bit, but I found the gears cover system more intuitive than vegas and a bit easier to use.
Thanks!
