Well I remember that during the movies release, there were pamphlets and stuff in the movie theaters which had LOTR models (mainly the encounter sets), so we might see some sets come out for the hobbit.

I personally love Lotr.
It was the first Miniature game i played and id keep playing it if people i knew would play it. I love how its played i just think it would do a lot better if it give more options when making your army like when i played you had your figures and you'd make a list and didn't have much to choose from for gear. I dont know if they changed that since the last rule book i played was when the starters were made for each movie.

I agree with you, if they gave LOTR more options and etc, it might encourage people to play more of it!
I dont see why people dont like it though.

Back on subject, I find that a lot of people will just have a small LOTR army that they are too embarrassed to bring out. Shame on those people, shame on them I say!

Same. Just because it's not the most popular GW game doesn't mean that you should hide your miniatures.

I actually REALLY agree with you, it may be the least most populist game, I dont care either way if people know I play it as Im always looking for a LOTR game, mind you I think WOTR is worst than LOTR!

Really? I had no idea you felt that way. I dont think you mentioned that a dozen times already in this thread nor started a new thread just to say that.

Thanks for enlightening us with your well thought out and rather deft opinion based on a single play of the game.

Feforfar wrote:LOTR got me into this aswell and WOTR I find pointless because its basicly the a mix between Fantasy and LOTR except similar rules to LOTR, in the last year, I've had 1 game of LOTR at the workshop and that was a tutorial just because i was bored ALOT!

I have played heaps of epic battles in LOTR. Imagine 6 or 7 Mumak rampaging around trampling on people. Imagine heroes slaughtering and people actually rolling 7 or 8 on D6 (ITS LEGAL IN LOTR).

LOTR I find is a lot more heroically based than fantasy and quite a bit more tactical than 40K. I think people underestimate it and a rerelease of the LOTR range could actually prove interesting. Maybe add more plastics and more customisation options?

Well, GW took us by surprise with the plastic Swan & Morgul Knights. Ever since then I have been hoping for more replacements in plastic- Kataphracts, Rohan Royal Guard, or Khand would all be a nice Christmas surprise... .

Customisation, though- maybe in LotR. WotR is actually a better game for not having the option to customize heroes and units.

Mor plastics and customisations would definitely attract more people, however it would mean a big increase in cost, and for me one of the biggest draws when I first started was that in Australia it was %35 for 24 Lotr warriors, as opposed to $55 for 10 marines.

Also, how can you roll a 7 or 8 on a D6 in LOTR? I might be wrong, haven't read my rulebook in a while, but I don't seem to recall.

I agree with you fully about the level of tactics required to win LOTR, and about how it is a great game for epic heroics, with such battles as The fellowship versus a horde of orcs being fair game.

7 or 8? D6 needing a six, followed by a D6 needing a 4+ or 5+. It's usually shown in the to-hit chart as 6/4 or 6/5.

I absolutely love the figures for LOTR. I have bought thousands of figs and use them in all sorts of other game systems. I'm sure I wold use them in LOTR itself, but there isn't that many people playing the game so I use the figs for other things. But I love those models. I have someof the best themed Hordes of the Things armies from LOTR figs.

I've honestly never seen a single person playing LOTR at my FLGS, not even the practice games with store miniatures, yet their always on display and have a section of the store

It's like how in some of my old white dwarf magazines Necromunda, Epic and Blood Bowl got as much coverage as warhammer 40k and fantasy, and later on in one particular issue, Inquisitor and LOTR both got more than warhammer fantasy, despite the fact I've seen no one play either ever

No doubt it's a good game and GW did a great job of showing Middle Earth in miniatures (even if I for one am not too interested in it, yet) but it's just not that popular and takes away space from both Fantasy and 40K.

The sink.

I like the system behind LotR and WotR. I like it much better then Fantasy, in fact. But it isn't nearly as popular as Fantasy for a number of reasons. I'd certainly like to see more people playing LotR at my store, but I'm not holding my breath.

lol this looks like a good place to start my posting on this site

this may sound odd but LoTR is my mainstay in the hobby - i do also play 40k but until a couple of months ago my eldar were still gathering dust whilst my Dwarves and Mordor armies were getting bigger.
The system itself i find is good - it doesn't have to over complicate itself with rules upon rules (and some rules that void rules). the fact that heroes and units dont get a wide range of wargear options keeps it simple.
when i first got my hands on WoTR it was great as alot of SBG fans were crying out for large scale games that didn't require a week off work, tho it did make me realise that i need a hell of a lot more Orcs now

but i digress - the game at my local GW store is somewhat popular, people do turn up for tourneys and the weekly game night though it was rare for new faces and chances are you could go over your time limit without getting your wrist slapped as there wasnt really anyone else waiting for a game

the model range is really cool, though the lack of real multi-part plastic kits can leave you wanting to pose the odd orc differently now and again. no ideas what they have planned but looking through books like legions of middle-earth some 'future proofed' listings sound really cool - high elf chariot anyone??

war of the ring flows really well, again it isnt over-bearing in the rules dept. but you do have to consider more than with SBG and i feel i dont have to play WH just for the more tactical feel than what you get in 40K. there are other parts i could comment on but i think i'll leave it for now

I started with LOTR and went to 40k not because the game wasn't fun or entertaining (I used to play a hour or two each day during HS) but I went to 40k because the miniatures are waaaaaaay cooler and when I found out they where much more customizable that enticed me more.

Yep. LotR is the reason GW can make such amazing plastic figures, it paid for all the computers/equipment needed to make them.

I like the WotR and SBG alot. Both systems are in my top 4 GW games of all time. Right after warmaster, then BB.

I've personally never noticed the lack of players for the LotR systems.

If it wasn't for LOTR, people wouldn't really be playing the other systems, and I also hate it how the LOTR aren't multi-kitted!
