Ok ladies and gentlemen, another update...

So I've pretty much decided to get into making teams for this 40k mod Killzone, that I think is cool. Just because I love modelling so much different stuff, and I can have games with my friends and some at the club, as a real skirmish game and just create all these different chapters/races and not focus on one thing (I hate focusing on one thing!). Maybe Eventually these teams might evolve into full scale forces, probably for chaos if that happens as I cannibalize some of my Black Legion force to make it truescale.

The Noise Marine squad is coming along nicely, I'm doing a lot of nice sculpting on it. Here are pics, with some shots of the cool speaker-shoulderpads that I sculpted:

I decided to lengthen the shins a little bit, on all except the champ, and they came out a bit rough at times, but I really think it improves the proportions. I see some people lengthening the upper thighs and that is a big no no. With these guys you really have to go back and look at them a few different ways to make sure they are right, and be ready to perform surgery if they are not.

I also got some TS chapterhouse kits in waiting, I think I will probably use these for loyalist chapters since they are cleaner looking. Although I must say they have a skinnier look to them than a converted terminator leg, which is a good and bad thing. I think that for TS chaos modified terminator legs are the way to go. The chapterhouse kits should be fine with some modifications and they are great because it saves a ton of work.

Can't wait to get paint on these Noise Marines... It will be good to do something I can use a lot of bright colors and lighting effects on, I'm a bit tired of painting black atm.

My next Team after that will be some AdMech, working on these guys now too:

So what I did was I clipped off any faces, and replaced them with skull masks, because skulls are AWESOME. Also I want these guys to look like they are walking on the surface of Mars or exploring somewhere hostile. Also there will be a lot of servo skulls too. I might put little orbs of greenstuff in the eyes later, it's a good trick for when you go to paint OSL on them to make them look glowing (can't have recessed stuff glowing because the shadows always get in the way).

I'll be using the Grey Knights codex to represent these guys in Killzone, so the Techmarine model is going to count as an inquisitor, with power armor. That explains the scale issue, as he is a T3 mortal with power armor on. But he is really a Secutor in my team, a heavily armed techpriest devoted to battle. I attached a psycannon to a servo arm but it's not in the pics yet. Oh and one cool tip, I use a 26 gauge wire and took apart an electrical cable, then wrapped the very thin strand of copper around it for that cool cable coming out of his head. That give you really small detailed cable... smaller even than GW kits or anything you can do with hand or tools.

The two techpriests will probably count as crusaders with a power weapon hit and the 3++ save will be their force fields. But Hopefully there will be real rules for these guys eventually in Killzone at least.

The skitarii are wargames factory dudes with backpacks added and hoods of grey stuff. They'll have some bionic weapn implants and limbs here or there.

If anyone wants to suggest or request a cool chapter or race for me to do a killteam for... I'm all ears. So far I want to keep to a lot of Chaos, and Space Marines because I have the bits for Chaos and love chaos, and I love doing True Scale, and I'd like a good mix of good and evil. So I think I will go down a list, One CSM, one SM, and One mortal/xeno team and then repeat.

Next I think will be an Iron Hands team, although I don't really like painting the black I can live with it and they make great opponents for my noise marines (eternal archenemies... they have issues). And of course I love doing the bionics.

Yeah I sort of agree, but I had picked up a bunch of them and wanted to use them. Their heads aren't bad though when you chop off the helmet part and add a cloak, the bug eyes make good OSL glowing eyes. I 'm going to have to do more modifications like adding wires, cog bits and bionic limbs and such.

Thanks guys.

More updates soon I promise, I'm just about done painting those two killteams... they are coming out awesomeness.

Next up will be Iron Hands.

Also I really hope that when the chaos codex comes out there are cultists... thinking about some ways to make some cultists of slaanesh. I really love the ways that chaos use cultists in battle. I mean it's such a shame they aren't represented in the game... considering that chaos space marines are an elite of an elite really... they need bodies to throw at the enemy to clear up minefields and be 'cannon fodder' in general.

@ Rogue Wolves: I think that counts as encouragement

@E. traitoris: Thanks dude

Ok here are the Noise Marines:

I had a lot of fun modelling and painting these guys. The Admech are almost done too, just have a few details more to bang out on them but there is a small preview in these pictures. Next up is iron hands, I'd say they're about 33% modelled as I write this. I'm loving the true scale! I think eventually I'll be tempted to do some true scale 'rhinos' out of landraiders.

They also got some play in a Killzone game so I'm pretty happy. But I think I need to write some rules of my own for the sonic weapons... GW rules are so bland.

Move along. these aren't the droids you're looking for.

thanks yeah it's vallejo VMA scarlet red, then a dark purple, turquoise and vallejo VMA brass, which mostly makes up the scheme.

Those Noise Marines are fantastic Meade! Really sinister and disturbing, the way they should be!
OSL looks ace as well - as expected

I also really like the lone Skitarii in the last picture. It's really astonishing how much the added hood changes the overall look of the WFG model!

Always been a big fan of your stuff but those Noise Marines are my favourites. Slaanesh is my Chaos god of choice and is rarely done so well in my opinion - both an assault to the senses and an aura of menace and depravity. Do you do your OSL with an airbrush? I'm sure you've answered that before sorry.

The only thing I would have liked to see is a few more hues, I can imagine them covered in blinding, strobing multicoloured lights. But again, it's hard to balance the garishness with menace.

Thanks man! Yeah it's airbrush. It's mostly VMA scarlet red + paint dilution over a white surface (whatevers glowing). It's important because that color in particular is so translucent so the light shines through, bounces off the white and produces a nice glowing red effect without being too pink.

The only thing I would have liked to see is a few more hues, I can imagine them covered in blinding, strobing multicoloured lights. But again, it's hard to balance the garishness with menace.

By all means give suggestions. I very well might go back to these guys and fix them up more if I feel like it. The noise blasters came out so well with those OSL tubes on the side I might do something similar for the blastmaster.

I may add more lights, probably turquoise before anything. I would have to add balls of putty to the spots where the lights would be, prime, and OSL. I can definitely see what you are saying. I have to be very careful adding yellow, green, orange to this though because it might just end up looking like 'pretty lights' and I need them to look badass. There is however a lot of orange in the bases (rust), and I might work on the glowing green runes/armor decorations a bit more.

Doctor says I'll never be able to eat solid food again.

I actually had that for a month after my jaw was broke... not a fun experience!

well I don't think you really need any suggestions as they look awesome as it is, but all I could think is that the dark blue/purple armour with the blue-green/teal detailing almost looks Alpha Legion to me and that maybe you could use a couple of different hues like pink to change that feel. But yeah, too many colours and Slaanesh goes from looking sinister to looking cartoonish, and with multicoloured glows they might look like Christmas trees.

I'm working on a big-scale Slaanesh marine so this all interests me a lot. I have to admit I love the old style Noise Marines with their leopard print skins and luminous mohicans but it's definitely hard to keep that aesthetic while looking suitably grimdark.

While that sounds super-painful and I'd rather not think about it for too long, didn't the first Noise Marine (a former Eperor's Children Captain, IIRC) end up with a permanently dislocated jaw due to the surgery that gave him a Doom Siren? Just sayin...

Yup. Eidolon took it upon himself, with Fabius Bile, into making the first steps towards the Noise Marine we know today.

I'm thinking that if I find a way to keep the colors slightly... wrong then it might work out. Maybe using a yellow-greenish color or something on the doom siren parts, and I could definitely put a lot more reddish-pink in there. But I won't use straight up pink, I think part of the reason they are menacing is because there are very little pastel colors. Too much and they would look like an easter egg.

But hey, not all aesthetics have to be grimdark in this game. Whatever your style is dude I would appreciate if it's done well. Like if you want them to look like 80's rock stars, I think that's totally awesome! It might have a bit of a comic element to it as well... or not... you can make anything look menacing i done right... even clowns. Especially clowns.

I read Fulgrim but it's lost for the moment, but yes, some had permanently dislocated jaws, permanently opened eyelids and gashes where their ears were. Also they had enhanced biology based on a xenos species so that they could emit a powerful scream just from their body. Also stretched skin of their victims decorating their armor.... but I couldn't figure out a great way do do that so it's not included yet. Does anyone happen to have any good pics of stretched human skin lying around?

I've been experimenting/playtesting with different sonic weapon rules. Here is my weapon profile so far:

Sonic Blaster 10 pts.

S2 AP4 12" Assault 6, Rending, Pinning*

Pinning is based on a toughness test rather than a leadership test. Any unit hit with a sonic blaster must take this test.

looking good vits

I think it probably is just smooth when stretched out. I like the pig skin texture though, might be good to have a larger skin trophy like that just hanging off the belt. Just might be tricky to get the eye-holes and mouth in the right place... Maybe later tonight I might try one.

Thanks guys, yeah I see there is one shoulderpad in the GW noise marine kit... might help me.

More updates! First the Adeptus Mechanicus. I chose a white scheme for these guys so I could play around with the weathering, and just for something different. They're an Explorator team. I actually have some vehicles for these guys too when I get around to making them. I play them as GK's and the techmarine model is a secutor that counts as an inquisitor with psycannon and power armor and power fist, so it goes along with my true scale guys.

>

That's all of them. And here is my WIP on Iron Hands:

Any suggestions are welcome. I'm going to add rivets to these guys, and all kinds of accessories and the plan is to go for a very dark, almost black iron color with them. I think I might change the terminator shoulder pads. They probably will have blue glowing eyes. And the guy with horns is actually going to be a minotaur later. You can see the different sizes in the comparison shot, how I bulked up the chapterhouse truescale kits.

Yeah it's WIP. they will all get bigger feet and the terminator's lower shins are the only thing that's done pretty much. He might be a bit taller in the end because of the feet but he'll be around that size in the end.
