Thanks! You are putting the pressure on for me to do a good paintjob now.

Yeah the tool is great, and if you experiment with it you can get a great variety of tubes from it. It really is worth every penny but only if you are doing Admech or something similar.

If you like Giger do you know the artist Kris Kuksi? Most awesome gothic miniature art ever. I was lucky enough to go see his show in NYC too.

Getting scared of some miniature painted plastic?

That's what chaos should be! It's got to give people the chills. That really helps people enjoy the game and be immersed in it. I have a far way to go before I can achieve that however.

Everything in this army is amazing. You are practically a god of greenstuff. The Obilterators, Noise Marines and Khorne Berzerkers are all amazingly well down.

Also, if you ever need ideas for your Noise Marines you should look here; http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/blogPost.jsp?aId=15900043a

This guy is almost as good with greenstuff/sculpting as you and is an extremely professional painter. Also, I can't wait to see your army painted.

Thanks I appreciate. You are tempting me to spend more time on my Noise Marines! That guy Whitehead has a cool style and I really like what he was doing with some of those helmets that are resculpted, he was thinking the same way as me. But for my army I want a more industrial look. Because they are like rockstars. Except instead of being an 80's hair band, they are a 90's industrial Nine inch nails kind of thing. I want to tone down the bright pink/purple of slaanesh maybe to a dark, deep black purple, add more speakers and wires, plenty of black because they are fighting with the black legion, plenty of weathering because they are on campaign. I'm still conflicted about their backpacks. I don't want to buy a bunch of those metal ones (I would need ten), but I would like to do something special with them, but I don't want to spend a lot of extra time sculpting because I worry about getting bogged down in one place.

Cheers

Hey guys, been hard at work today setting up my airbrush station. I did one little guy and one obliterator... check out how they came out. Its just a start, and I will definitely experiment more. I really love the airbrush though! And thanks to everyone at Dakka who are putting out tutorials and stuff it really helps. Special thanks to Major Tom and Nuclealosaur.

These guys are still a little bit WIP, they need basing and a few more details (like his bolter), and some weathering powder.

Any suggestions or things I didn't catch? Any critiques or suggestions are welcome. What do you think of my basic scheme? I'm trying to avoid gold and keep it as black as I can, Black Legion, but there are all kinds of colors mixed into the black, rusty colors and heavy contrast between light and dark (from spraying the airbrush) and the red OSL adds color to everything. Plus there are blues and I try to put a golden yellow point in there somewhere, to make a triad color scheme.

Sweet mother of god, those eyes/lights are amazing! It looks like you put tiny LEDs in their sockets! Both of those guys look amazing, though its clear they're WIP! I can't wait to see them finished.

Thanks guys. I'm just waiting to get the rest of my basing stuff in the mail. I want it to look like these guys are walking across the battlefield, just wading in the ashes, filth and desolation. You know like cracked concrete, burned carcasses, razor wire, puddles of mud and ash, burned out buildings. That way these loyalist scum will know the glory of CHAOS!

Thanks for the compliments on the OSL. I think I will expand further into doing some muzzle flash on my bolters and lighting up the figure from the flash.

I'm going to try out making some plaster, I'm just going to pour it out so it forms these thin sheets so that when I take it out and break it up a bit it looks like cracked concrete. But I'm waiting for my water effects and dry/burned grass flock.

Thanks guys. Like I said I'm a fan of Iron Warriors too but I end up doing Black Legion because I just love chaos so much, I love Noise Marines and Bezerkers and Bionic guys, and this is my first army, so I have to build them all and practice on them all. Also I like black. Although after painting these guys it is starting to look like painting my army might take awhile to finish. In any case I might do a few more experiments, just to see what I'm going to need and figure out what I'm aiming for, and then wait to paint the whole gang in one pass. It is the most efficient way for time use and saving my airbrush paint to paint a lot of guys at once.

That being said I think I need to shoot for building a smaller version of my whole army first. I have the parts for two defilers at home sitting here, and they will be like the Oblits except biggerized and more killy and industrial. And they will have actual LED's as well as/instead of the OSL. And three Land Raiders and like ten rhinos/tanks... it is a lot of crap.

I saw your oblit in the showcase forum and followed the link to your profile, where I found this thread. Glad I did! These conversions are simply stunning! I saw someone commented on how silly the GW oblits look and I totally agree. You've done the obliterator cult justice, man. Keep up the good work. Definitley looking forward to seeing this army progress!

Hey what's up, progress is being made. Today and yesterday I managed to finish up another squad of those bezerkers, and now I have two full squads. Finished my Obliterator Prince. And I made a squad of 5 chosen space marine infiltrators w/ plasmaguns, but really they can have any gun they want because they are all magnetized at the wrist.

I still think I want to paint my army all in one go, but I'm going to continue to experiment some more. I'm thinking right now that all I have to do is paint up my oblits, some of my troops that I've finished, my daemon prince and some rhinos and make my defiler, and I should be good to go in terms of having a playable army.... and I'm pretty anxious to have one I can play with. It's possible I might even finish it in the next two weeks, if I keep my progress up, and then I'll have the pressure off to finish an army and I can be more creative and take my time with the rest of my guys.

Anyhow here is how it's progressing. My Obliterator prince. And you can see from the scale he is quite big.

My chosen. I had fun putting more robes on these guys, they are supposed to be all special forces like. They all got nurgle helmets and hoods, so I can have fun doing OSL with the inside of their hood all lit up Oh and their plasmaguns. But besides that they are going to be mostly black and I may even put some vegetation on them or camoflage stuff like they have ghillie suits on. Their job will be to infiltrate and plasma people. I know, its not the best way to use them, but it's cool. So there. They could also have a ride and outflank if they want to.

And finally my bezerkers, they all got extra spikey shoulder pads and lots of them are armed to the teeth with two chainblades. And I made this power weapon for my one champion you can see, I call it a Power Brand and it's pokey, and a power weapon, and it's got 8 blades which is the sacred number of Chaos so that when it makes a wound it forms the star of chaos in it's victim. When I paint it up it will be glowing white hot with energy at the tip and more reddish like a piece of molten steel, and it will be lighting up the champion with a reddish glow. What do you guys think? I think I might want to make more power weapons like this.

Alright, I am officially jealous of you. You're a better modeler than me, you're a better painter than me and you're more creative than me. The Berzerkers look great. They look very savage and have actiony poses, in addition to creative conversions. I like the Chosen as well, with their sculpted robes and "Nurgle Champion" heads. And of course, the Obilterator/Daemon Prince is the best of all. I've never seen anything like that pulled off so well. Keep up the good work!

Thanks again dude. Trust me though I've had a lot of practice being creative and I've paid money to be trained in it, so I better be good at it. I'm just applying it to 40k which mostly has to do with how I'm unemployed right now So no jealousy talk please, I'm just here to share info about how I build my army and learn from everybody else, because that's how everyone improves. And trust me I'm not making up everything I do, I'm copying what I see that's cool and mixing it with my own ideas. Especially with those conversions, I've picked up a lot of stuff from here on dakka and elsewhere.

So this is my update after several months... I've gotten some time to finish my army and I've got the core army painted, as well as another project almost completed... so I'm starting to put everything up on the blog. It was sort of overwhelming to get everything painted at first and I just wanted everything painted, but now I will take it one unit at a time and I'm trying to increase my skills. I still might need to go back and touch up and redo all these guys, but one thing at a time. I'm taking the best pictures I can and putting them up little by little.

Chaos codex coming soon... Please make it true and make it come sooner!

Aside from that, I've done a Minotaurs army for myself and my brother to share, it's counts-as blood angels so it should be fun to play, hopefully getting a blog up for that project too. My next project is to refine my obliterator-making process and put them up for sale on ebay and dakka, unpainted or painted. Hopefully they will be popular in the new codex and not nerfed. I wouldn't be sad to have nine instead of 6 anyway...

Here are the first two oblits uploaded to the dakka gallery:

And I have much more coming!
