Spoiler:

Yeah, that torso is basically naked save for some paint... also, I can't help but note thehypocrisyof using ME2's Jack as your avatar, consider I don't think she wore a small belt as a shirt.

See, now this is how things go wrong in interweb land.....By the use of the word "hypocrisy" and the overall "feel" of your post I can't help but feel attacked. I think you have misunderstood the nature of my post, and have clearly not read my earlier posts on this thread.

I have nothing against Brother Vinni's miniatures or his decision to make what he has made. I understand it's not for everyone, and admittedly I would find a very limited use for it. However, that said, I'm not offended by it or feel he shouldn't make things of that nature.

My post above is aimed at the point that I would be interested to see Brother Vinni turn his hand to something like the Dark Nova figure......the statement "the gaming community would be a brighter place" is aimed at the controvesy his current artwork is causing (well on this thread at least), and the fact that something like the Dark Nova figure would (probably) be greeted with more positives and less "rage" then his current work....which is a factual observation and not based on my personal opinion.

One last point, Jack did begin the game with a strange belt covering her breast, even when Sheppard entered environments that called for him to have a full suit on (which I found strange, bodering stupid of the games developers!!) as soon as I unlocked Jack's story and had access to her alternate outfit, I quickly changed her into it.....so no hypocrisy there either (at least from my side!)

Have a nice day.

Who in the states is selling his minis?

I still want my skinhead chicks for my Escher and for the zombie/ modern games I have going.

I like the model. I don't see the need for all the poo pooing.

Like the old saying goes, if you have seen it, you can't unsee it.

BV's been doing this since he started putting them up. We might have issue with ones or twos, but all in all this cat is a top notch sculpter. Funny he has no complaints about HIS finecast, though.

Wonder why GW can't take a lesson and take a note on what kind of resin hes using for sculpts.

Once again, I want the skinhead chicks, but I don't want to buy them from that site, anyone got any in online stores, or anywhere else?

Although I wouldnt buy this figure, I don't consider it porn either..

If viewing a figure like this is supposed to stimulate sexual desire, then presumably buying and painting it should be the fullfilment of that desire. And to me, buying and painting a figure like this would do as much to fulfill a sexual desire as calling McDonalds and getting the person on the other end of the phone to read a menu at me would fulfill my hunger.

So far as I am concerned, and I admit this does not work for gamers, I paint with the expectation of proudly displaying my work. I would not be able to display a model like this, I could not show it off to my friends, and so for me at least, it is pointless. I am going to vote with my wallet and not buy it, but I am not going to condem others for doing so. (And they must be selling, otherwise they would not be produced!)

Whether it happens in a hundred years or a thousand years or a million years, eventually our Sun will grow cold and go out. When that happens, it won't just take us. It'll take Marilyn Monroe, and Lao-Tzu, and Einstein, and Morobuto, and Buddy Holly, and Aristophanes…then all of this…all of this…was for nothing. Unless we go to the stars." I'm not sure what would happen if I painted and displayed a figure like this? I'm not sure if people would question my interests, but I'm also not sure if I should even be worried about a response like that.

For the record, my main interest (like yours) is painting and display (now), which gives me much more freedom in my purchases, not just in terms of genre but also in terms of scale. That said, I normally go for figures of 54mm and above......but have you seen some of the garage kits (especially the Japanese ones) my god, sexual content is definately not for kids!! I'm not just talking about the showing of some private parts, I'm talking about full on bondage etc......I consider them in the same "vein" as this miniature....and as a painter I think I would just have a hard time discussing it.

It's no secret that I admire and enjoy the female form, so in terms of my hobby, why shouldn't the vast majority of my collection be about that form......but something holds me back. Maybe it's just that miniatures like this don't represent me or my ideals on the world....but even saying that seems silly considering my hobby is based on worlds that are themselves based on fantasy and desire........hmmmm, this piece of miniature art is nothing if not thought provoking.

Thats like saying why is your avatar green and wearing a helmet.

It's just an artistic design, the 28mm sculpted equivalent of a page 3 girl. Nothing wrong with that. I don't think it has a lot of artistic merit, unlike a lot of the great 54mm pinup style nekkid girls that are around.

Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? A whole existence spent praising your God, but always with one wing dipped in blood. Would you ever really want to see an angel?"

You opinion is a dangerous one. It represents censorship for the sake of protecting the sensibilities of those who wish to censor.

And it is your opinion, because "brighter place" is an editorial statement and in no way journalistic observation. I personally do not consider a realm where everyone has to curtail their own expressiveness for the sake of the easily offended to be very illuminated.

Your avatar does not reflect this. She is clearly not wearing the alternate costume.

The saddest part of these threads is how so many people take it for granted that an Aryan bodybuilder in gleaming armour, driving a spiked blade into the prone body of his helpless Other foe is somehow a more noble or mature or pleasant or wholesome or realistic concept for a miniature than this stuff.

It's all the same, guys. It's fantasy. It's dumb and prurient and immature.

That's the danger of making assumptions. If you had actually read the thread instead of just assuming, you might have noticed that very few of the responses are 'offended and disgusted'.

I for one encourage naked women to take up rocket launchers. It's just as believable as anything else in 40k, and far more aethetically attractive.

And one could also make the argument that the sculpt demonstrates the empowerment of the female form: she is not ashamed of her feminine sculpt, and is unrestrained by the patriarchal shackles of a male-dominated space marine society. Thus she has chosen to demonstrate her female body, symbolically demonstrating that she is unafraid, whilst carrying a rocket launcher -what could be considered a phallic symbol- to be used as a tool. Said tool is under her complete control, and to be used as she sees fit; and not the other way around. She demonstrates nothing other than femininity, yet she is still a force of strength to be feared.

Or, y'know: hot girl with a rocket launcher.

I can only imagine the same people were equally outraged when they saw the new orc savage warboss or any other male minis with little clothing.

There are tons of bare chested male models in gaming and no one is complaining they are not wearing proper battle protection etc.

- Or we could all stop trying to de-rail the thread by complaining about outrage that doesn't actually exist. There is absolutely no need to blow this up into a bigger issue than it actually is.-

The majority of the complaints about this model are nothing to do with being outraged about nudity. They're more about the incongruity of the nudity in this specific example.

Yeah, if she was naked while holding a sandwich nobody would be complaining at all.

It's the rocket launcher that makes it silly.

I did actually read the thread thankyouverymuch and that's what I got from a lot of the comments. Or confused. "why is she naked?" seems to be the other half of the equation. The majority of the posters in this thread play fantastical games, what's the big deal if there's some naked chick with a rocket launcher. Just seems like a lot of "hoopla" and getting uppity over absolutely nothing, as usual.

I don't find it offensive. I find it silly. I would just be as perplexed if I see a sculpt of, say, a naked SM Captain holding a power sword and wearing a helmet.

I would be more perplexed if I see a naked dreadnought. Now how WOULD THAT LOOK LIKE.

Then you're reading too much into a bunch of comments that are largely fairly restrained.

The big deal is that the miniature doesn't make a lot of sense. Miniatures are generally either functional for use in games, or purely decorative.

For functional miniatures, they need to fit into the setting for which they are intended. And for a lot of us, coming up with a setting in which a naked girl with a rocket launcher would feature often enough to justify having such a miniature is a bit of a stretch.

For decorative miniatures, it's the overall aesthetic that matters. From that point of view, a naked girl with a rocket launcher is fine... but the chosen pose is not. It's not a 'pin-up' pose, which is what you would expect from the subject matter... and the pose she has is too awkward to stand on its own. It's the sort of mass-production pose that is used to keep castings to a minimum number of parts, that is fine when buried in the middle of a unit but just looks awkward when the miniature is presented as a stand alone display piece.

What you're seeing as 'a lot of hoopla' is just people presenting their opinions, nothing more. The vast majority of posters in this thread who have expressed a dislike for this miniature are nowhere near as worked up about it as you seem to think. But for some reason, some people take any negative comment as being spawned by mouth-frothing rage.

From a strictly aesthetic point of view, I don't really like the hand on the hip. It makes the sculpt seem kinda awkward.
