Thanks for all the kind words! I'm just hoping to finish this before I really have to start working. (gonna have a few months of 7 day work weeks!)

I do have a huge update, I finished the build! All thats left is the rust and painting.

Anywho, I started by burning off stickers on the pipes.

Next I started adding plates and details to the bottom of the wings. I actually ran out of welding wire! I started with a fresh 2 pound roll for this project. I ground a lot of it off, but still.

After replacing the wire, I added details to the doors. The Landa has three small vehicle and troop doors along the lower cargo hold.

After I added the last details, I did the final grind. This involved using a 40 grit grind wheel, followed by a 120 grit wheel, and lastly getting details ground with various die-grinder bits. Very time consuming, but very boring and no pictures.

Lastly, I dipped the model in a bath of muriatic acid. DO NOT mess with that stuff if you don't have the proper safety equipment!

I have ten good pictures of the finished build, I'll post them in the next update in two minutes!

Alright, here are the finished pictures of the build.

I hope to have the rust done throughout the week, and get it airbrushed next weekend. (Or the next available eight hour chunk of time I can rustle up!)

Again, I thank everyone for looking. I normally try and respond to every post, but work and life just don't afford me the time I like to have to my hobbies.

What's next? I'm currently learning about robots so I have plans for an automated steam Gargant, a Mek-bot that walks and can aim weapons, and a Gargant that has a heads-up display that feeds to a monitor. I also want to get more into machining, so I have plans for a jump-Deff Dread and another Battlewagon.

However, none of this is "Next."

What's next? I'm building an Ork Warbike. I just bought the base "model" to convert, but due to work I probably wont be able to begin construction in ernest until the end of summer. Look for the thread around August though, I guarantee it will be a doozy.

Well, it is thirty pounds. I'll be sure to use proper lifting techniques every time I attempt to move it.

I do hope it will turn some heads. we will see, there's a fine line between rat rods and a bike covered in crap. Working on the design now, but sadly it will have to wait till after sumer.

Basically, the Landa has 22 turrets and a battery of ten pulsa rokkits. I wanted to keep it basic so I'll probably just call the turrets twin-linked kannons (eleven per side,) and the Rokkits are for the special rules needed to clear a spot big enough to set the thing down onto the table. I'll figure out rules and post them once it's fully painted and finished. I'm sure I could break it down to twin-linked kannons, twin linked big shootas, single kannons, and what nots but I know from Apocalypse experience that simple is better.

I got a big update!

First up, I got thew rust where I wanted it. I used the acid, salt, diesel fuel, fire, and CLR to get the final look.

One quick note before I show the next picture! I set the model on fire in a contained burn area at work, and its sitting on a sheet of drywall. off camera was another Mek with a Co2 extinguisher and a hudson sprayer. We take fire safety at work very seriously, and so should you. DO NOT SET YOUR MODELS ON FIRE UNLESS YOU ARE TRAINED PROFESSIONALS!

That being said, I soaked the Landa in diesel and lit it on fire.

I then let it sit for a few hours, and pressure washed it to remove all smelly diesel. I then gave it a salt bath, let it sit again for a few hours, rinse and repeat.

Once I had the rust I wanted after a week of adding and removing, all that was left was lightly sanding and polishing.
Here's a close up of the difference.

After I finished sanding out the detail work, I put on a few thick layers of clearcoat. This should stop it from rusting further (a little will always occur) and it will give me a solid base to paint on. I'll be using an airbrush and a salt resist technique, I didn't want the salt further discoloring it.

While it was drying from the clear coat, I made a handle that attaches to the shackles and Pad-eyes.

After attaching the handle, I was able to get an accurate final weight! It's 30 pounds, or just shy of 14 Kg.

Here are some detail shots of the finished rust.

All that's left is painting! I hope to work on it this week, but I have to play it by ear. They just switched me to six days a week, and at twelve hours a day my free time is becoming...limited.

Even if I have no updates by next weekend, I should have a free day sometime before the end of the month. Again, thanks for looking!

While not worrying about it falling on stuff, can a table actually take its weight?

Wow... just wow. That is just ridiculously great! The welded metal really works for the orks. Not sure if you've decided to paint it or not, but as it looks now it might just fit with the rest without much painting. But then again, red ones go fasta!

Incidently, I'm seeing some similarities between your landa and the reaver ships from Firefly. Any chance this is part of your inspiration?

Sweet Gorka-Morka, I'm tired of talking about the weight. What the hell do y'all use for a gaming table, paper-mache? foam-core set atop two saw horses made of cardboard? A small mouse? Yes, gaming tables can take the weight. If I went somewhere and wasn't sure it could, do you think I'd risk my model?!?

I did re-watch the better Reaver scenes from the series and film for detail ideas, but honestly it's just pure Ork. I've been building Ork Gak for so long I have quite the collection of inspiration. Honestly the greatest contributor to the model was the various Kroozer class ships from Battle Fleet Gothic.

I just have a small update today.

Now that I have the rust where I want it, I started putting salt on for the resist technique I'm using to paint it.

Sadly, I had a lot of problems making the salt stick. Normally I do the resist after painting rust. On this model however, I didn't want the salt to change the rust so I clear coated it first, thus giving too slick a surface to paint on. I found a work around by making a witches brew of Klean Sweep (fine sawdust mixed with light oil,) sand, and both sea and table salt.

Here's the Landa fully covered.

The resist technique wont work if theres ANY moisture on the surface at all, so I need to let it fully dry overnight. I should be able to start airbrushing tomorrow, so another update soon!

Alright, I got some airbrushing done.

First up, the black base coat.

Next I layered in some highlights.

After that, I add some red.

Lastly, I added some details. glyph plates, flames, checks, dags, etc.

Next up, blowing off all the salt and sand. Thanks for looking!
