Trip wires were mentioned some way back, it's been out for weeks. 1.3 Has been really delayed, I think it's partially due to the ender chests and complaints from servers.
They're going to have many uses mostly for mob traps.
Considering the wire floats it shouldn't be broken by pistons going underneath, that allows for a door to be auto opened when a mob falls onto that wire. Before hand it was either always open or shut.
Another application is the obvious one of defending your house, perhaps finding the perfect range of your dispensers flaming arrors and putting the wire in that direction? Would make another good mob protections, but it doesn't one hit so mabye you'd have to activate a clock and put a limited number of arrows in it so it doesn't waste loads.
I've been testing a design for some dramatic lighting, a while back the mini painter posted a redstone thread, now I didn't use his design but I used the idea of having the lights turning on one by one down that generic long hallway in horror films, now if you make it activate a clock then you can get the eerie flickering light also, obviously this would need resseting unless your ok with a always flickering light.
Nope, the map is working perfectly for me.
Mabye the server is a UK one and your not connecting very well?
The titan is huge, I can't wait for that to be finished, but there doesn't seem to be much that's happened whilst I've been away, work on the spawners or collecting the material, either way that's going to be even more of a landmark than it currently is.
I wouldn't know if they work or not, since I don't use them.
Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Well I can't test this for obvious reasons
Looking foward to 1.3, so many redstone builds possible with the new tripwire. Could also create a early warning system with redstone torches being turned to on when activated, perhaps with a clock mechanism (Liking my clocks as of late) to keep it on constantly, would make a good security system
High explosives near or in your property, protecting my property?
I was going for a more secretive method, what if someones just looking? I'm (If I'm allowed back in) going to just leave a chest with signs outside each door, then just ask them to put up a sign with their name. If I find the trip wire tripped and no sign I know someone's been naughty
Last time I checked the elf tree looks really good, are you expanding upwards or outwards or a mixture?
Also I noticed a large amount of creeper holes in the dirt. I would help but well yeah. Also just a suggestion but the fact there's water leading up the centre of the tree is a tad strange, perhaps moving the pool to the side would be a better move.
But it's more exposed though and it's a faff, so I can understand not moving it.
At the moment, i'm not sure what's going to happen with the elf tree, tbh.
Can't make it too much taler otherwise it would look silly (too top heavy)
So, I personaly think that a few branches reaching upwards should be made, and the houses built within them, so it looks like the tree grew up and around the houses
but, as i said, still have no idea
and then there is the fact of lightning...
still if anyone else stills wants it worked on, i'll see what I can do
The lighting is a issue, because it makes the tree look less like a tree. Redstone lamps are a good idea, just do some vertical wiring to each floor, should be easily hidden.
Or perhaps half slabbing all the floor, should be easier with the whole being able to put half slabs on top in 1.3.
Or keeping the place open and having a massive mob spawner somewhere near.
The problem with having a mob spawner nearby is just that. It needs to be massive and obtrusive. And thats counterproductive to the look of the tree. Also, redstone torches don't work as well as they should.
You know, the mob spawner could be underground. It doesn't have to be intrusive.

That and the wiring is very simple and effective.
It takes up minimal space and if redstone had more ways to place it would almost make the redudant other than for inverting the current.
I think some wood pressure plate sliding doors might be of order
