Well, not rusted concrete, but you'll see what I mean.

I picked up one of these things and wondered how to paint it. I was thinking of starting with
grays and then using brown washes, but I'm not really sure. I'd appreciate any terrain painting
advice.

(I hate painting terrain).

I have no clue. Armorcast included them in the pic for scale.

I've done browns with orange dry brushing. Gives a nice rusty effect.

Yeah, with a slightly darker gray outlining it (darker than the surface which is rusting) to give the appearence of wetted concrite/stained concrete.

Also consider using a 'sludge wash'. Finescale Modeler has a recipe, but mine is a mix of water, future, black ink and brown ink.

I love that armorcast is back.

actually Yes they are! Mega Minis bought the armor cast terrain molds, thought I have not seen a full list of the molds they bought yet I hope they got them all so we can once again get that cool stuff.

I picked it up at the shop because it was remaining stock from Armorcast.

Their website is still up, though (hence, the image)

Well, Armorcast never went anywhere, but they did stop production of their awesome terrain a year or so ago. However, MEGA Miniatures has bought the majority of the Armorcast terrain designs and in Feb '07 will be making them available for purchase. Armorcast will still be around doing Battletech and other niche stuff. My guess is Tim DuPertuis got tired of constantly being screwed over by GW, while Discount Hobbies gets a kick flipping their finger off at "The Man" (and I love them for it).

An email from Discount Hobbies says that it's uncertain when the platforms will be in
production again. The armorcast stuff needs new molds.

Vor Union IIRC.  Armorcast did terrain for them, it was even included in the box set.

I got it but never played it, it went OOP when FASA closed down and is in limbo right now, and may never get out.
