One of the guys at my local club, who runs the awesome www.leadlegion.com painting service, asked me to work on a build for him of a chaos commissar (we're about to start a planetary empires campaign, hurrah!) I played with it for a bit, and here's a wip:



Clearly very wip. Needed to add height so extending at waist and going add another layer of detailing. Going to play with adding sleeves along the back of the cloak to create a chaos trenchcoat.

Started on Grimaldus-> =][= Grim. Not sure on weapon loadout.


Lovely fig, so not doing much to it, just de-BTing.

And as I mentioned, we're doing planetary empires. So, want other stuff built. Specifically, ghost knights; got some old metal gks. I started by just using some lovely bases from Fenris games:


Then I thought well I'll add some purity seals.


Then I thought, well I've got some extra halberds:


And I could kitbash a stormbolter arm too (short a pad though)


In fact, why don't I just make a unique banner while I'm at it?


So that was my night. Quick! Bed! Before it becomes tomorrow!

Well, I suppose a nice eagle on the top rather than the skull would help... Romanesque don't 'cha know.

I'd assumed you'd left that section black so you could free-hand something in... but in that wasn't the plan, then yes... a GK insignia would go well there.

i started making a list of eveything i wanted to say and my boss asked me what i was doing....so after a quick cover story i lost the list and cant remember most of what i wanted to say apart from just being plain flabbergasted

Really great to see everything going (mostly) to plan, and seeing you get some painting in

i just have one thing to say that may annoy you....*cough combibolterontheSRbase cough*....but other than that, i LOVE the expanding foam/khorne invasion idea (i have an idea of the SR lining up for a bombing run, only for the loud hailer on the Rhino to say 'SURPRISE' as it flies over and the Rhino explodes into angry smoke... )

@gits: I had planned vaguely on Knightley-esque squiggles, as I cannot freehand for toffee. Or taffy. Or tofu.

On the bits scrounge again, I'll be posting this in the right place but if anyone can spare gk termie torso bits, pads, psycannons (or pagk psycannon) or khorne zerker bunny heads with the T-shaped eye slot you'll make me a happy monkey. No poo throwing or anything...

Great use of the old metal GK Termies, they'll fit in just right with the new ones! Oh, and nice banner.
I'll be interested to see how that Chaos Commissar turns out, a trench coat will look great on him.

Yeah, I'm glad folk are into the book love. I've gs sculpted a book on the reverse, but it needs work before I'm happy to share and/or swipe with knowledge.

Ta. It is indeed - although you'd think they'd give you more than 2 gk icons... Incidentally, love your avatar. My patents used to live in Rye, where much of it was filmed. That and it's pythonic.

I think that the Chaos Commissar it a bit out of proportion. His torso is too bulky for his legs. He's looking good, don't get me wrong. If your still going to sculpt the trench coat it'll be fine, but now he just looks a little strange.

You're not wrong about proportions. I'd tried him with a range of legs - ork, chaos warrior, scout, yaddayaddayadda - and have come full circle. I think once I gs the base of the trenchcoat it'll balance better. We shall see.

Anyway, an idle evening of kitbashing. Decided to see if I couldn't approximate a psycannon from a left-over incinerator:

C&C? If you figure out how I did it, you'll get a fist bump. Now there's an offer.

Another amalgam:

Sanguinary Guard bits to the fore. I think the occasional SG bolter's a nice variation actually, and not out of keeping with general aesthetic.

Crazed parts fusion:

Just to flesh out my interceptors. Also a test to see if I could nearly sculpt off the second hand and resculpt back of pommel (answer is yes).

Some brass etch required here!


And...

Creative use of khorne zerker heads. Gotta get me some more o dem.

I'm debating picking up another pagk set largely to pillage; I'm tempted to build some falchion interceptors or a second squad of falchion purifiers. Thoughts on a postcard, if the Internet hasn't rendered such primitive means of communication irrelevant,

As much as I want that fist bump but do not know GK bits well enough to figure it out. However I do think I see a non GW bit, looks kind of like a lid/top or something? I really have no Idea...

I like the Zerker head mod It really has a cool knight look to it.

CSM legs good too the mystery bit is the front axle join off a CSM bike, the barrel a cut-down incinerator cannister. Those zerker heads are a joy. Need moar! I'm going to try making a gk termie torso back from a regular termie one next. Eep. Can only experiment eh?!

So my kids decided that all my plans this evening were dust. I had many, notably the gs framework for the trenchcoat, but instead just made a little headway on the termie conversion:

Chopped the back torso above the vents, and the front at the cowl line. Thinking of sticking a classic metal incinerator on (irony - have cut off the aobr arm posts ) along with the brotherhood banner. Trick the eye into not noticing the chop job straight away, I hope.

Just gk termie actually. Aim to distract from non standard torso/legs. My second paladin squad is all bare headed, just for variety.

And with arms, prior to accessories and brass etch:

Left? Fair point. Actually, I think that's a funny angle of photo thing; the metal and the plastic are flush (bit of gs in edge). I see how it does look that way, doesn't in rl, hopefully accessorising/better pix will fix.
