Nothing wrong with most dubs, though a good portion of English speakers should be offended by the Love Hina English dub... good goddess is that what they think we sound like? Texans with severe head trauma?

Were all either new york bad boys, southern inbreds, or californian surfers from So Cal
The dub for cardcaptor took a lot of the more deep themes out of the series. They felt it was a bit intense for a kids show and it was supposed to be for once unlike one-piece. (GHHHH!)
I found the sub a bit better when I watched it when I was younger.
Anyone here watched Steins;Gate? It gets a super thumbs up from me so go watch it as soon as you can!
I actually just got back from a con where I did a couple hour's work for one the dealer's room... dealers and I unboxed a bunch of the new Stein's Gate boxsets. I ended up taking one of the oop Neon Genesis Evangelion boxsets in return for my labors but I was really tempted. Synopsis on the series Ledabot?
Side note, best sound track in anime games? Angel Beats has some of the best music I've heard period.

Yea Steins;gate is great. I cant share much about because of major spoilers but its basicly about 3 friends who work in a 'lab'. The main character who is a self proclaimed mad scientist, his friend who is a computer wizz and a bit of an otaku and the mains childhood friend who is a bit of a ditzy girl. They find a way to send messages to the past and hilarity ensues. Gets a bit darker later thou.
Tonight's SAO was terrible. I wish they would get off of these side plots, and get back to the action. I realize that it doesn't make a good series if every epi is action packed, but still.
Finished episode 12 of Tari Tari, and it's my favorite. I need need to watch Kokoro Connect 12 later tonight, and then get on Tora Dora.... And then I have 65 other things to watch T_T
The Anime is actually following the Light Novel's fairly closely so far (a few of the early episodes were based on shorts). Keep watching though. It all ties together in the end.
The story might just not be your cup of tea though. The plot is very slice of life in a certain way, which i admit usually bores me too.

It's been a while since I've really watched much. It's hard for Anime to really excite me anymore. I have watched Steamboy, Howl's Moving Castle, and I guess you could lump Advent Children in there as well, within the last month or so. Mostly because my kid enjoys the prior two, and I've been on a big FF7 kick lately.

I really enjoyed that episode. I think its important to take all the different developments in stride, even if they seem a little of to the side. If it's shown, especially in an anime adaptation, that tells me that the events are important. We will see mean fighting at some point but I really love all the different parts of SAO at the moment. I hope they don't stuff up or something.
I need to watch kokoro connect too. This next arc, if you can call it that, is really good!

One anime I want to check out is Chobits. I've seen the DVD box set on sale and I'm tempted to get it.

Ok so my friend has a love hate relationship with anime.
I told him about madoka magica. I said it was a magical girl anime and he dismissed it. But i put in on. He like the action. .
But by the third episode he was changed(you all know what happens) and he just kept asking "Did that just happen? I didnt expect that"
Then well he kept asking me questions and i said "Do you want me to spoil it for you?" He kept saying "No"
i had to convince him to go home so i could get some sleep.

Yeah. I still like the general theme of the anime a lot. It's a good idea, even though it's kind of gimicky, haha. I'll stick with it.
Inaba~n is my waifu. I love kokoro connect so badly
I just finished Vandread! Took me long enough, especially as I had already started with the series about 8-10 years back (sheesh, time flies). Back then, however, I only watched the first season.
One evening I just stumbled upon Vandread whilst browsing Netflix and just decided to give it a go, and finally watch it until the end. Didn't regret it.
During a Majerian raid on Taraak airspace, a group of female pirates hijacks the mens' newest battleship, which was built on the hull of the original colony transport. Unbeknownst to all parties, this vessel had a rather unusual energy core - a form of crystal called Paksis, whose qualities and origin remain a mystery throughout much of the story. As the men attempt to destroy the ship with two tactical warheads rather than letting it fall into enemy hands, the Paksis "activates" and spontaneously jumps the captured vessel into safety, complete with the pirates' cruiser still attached. As the survivors, amongst them three males who didn't get off the ship, attempt to regain their bearings, they realise that the Paksis has somehow merged the Majerian ship with the Taraakian. Added to that, they are many months away from home and soon witness an unknown alien force appear, realising that their two homeworlds are in danger of falling victim to this hostile and extremely powerful invader. The Paksis also allows one of the mens' mechas, called Vanguards, to "merge" with the womens' starfighters, called Dreads, creating a superior fighting machine that enables them to fight the invaders, as well as being the origin of the show's title: VanDread.
The crew manages to find out more about the alien invaders and is shocked at learning that they have been terrorising remote human colonies for a long time, harvesting blood cells, skin or organs from the almost completely defenseless populations. Now faced with the double-challenge of sharing one ship with the other gender as well as getting home alive and dodging repeated attacks of the enemy, the mixed crew sets out on an odyssey featuring many action-laden space battles, glimpses into the various characters' tragic past and/or nature, as well as the occasional slapstick comedy. Most interestingly, the protagonists eventually discover that they have more in common with the cruel Harvesters than they would like to know...
Verdict I'm usually sceptical when it comes to CGI, but Vandread manages to pull off a good mix between drawn characters and computer-generated space battles. What got me hooked was the unusual and rather funny idea of the "gender war" between men and women, as well as the cool designs that each of the two nations uses - the militaristic and caste-based Taraakians with their almost 40k-like stylings and cumbersome firepower, and the more advanced but concealed-guileful Majerians with their highly customised hit-and-run starfighters. More importantly, the characters are just very well done. The cast is rather large, with a number of "lesser" protagonists who all have their moment and own unique backstory and personality. Over the course of the two seasons, the focus lies on maybe a third of them, but almost everyone gets to shine in at least one episode. I am actually not a fan of anime mecha action, and the culture clash sadly is scaled back somewhat in favour of focus on a developing romance (which in turn also causes some hostility amongst the female majority), but on the other side there were a few very good and super-serious episodes that were quite emotional for me. It's almost shocking how fast this series can switch between something sad and slapstick comedy. A true emotional rollercoaster, I guess, though overall I would describe the series as leaning more towards the funny side. Either way, learning more and more about the various characters and their (at times rather dark) pasts was very nice, too.
Lastly, I could not help but notice a bunch of similarities to some important story elements in Mass Effect. Prolly just coincidence, but it still left me wondering if one of BioWare's writers watched this anime. We already know from an interview they loved Vexille, so hey...
Spoiler:
- aside from its robotic drones, the enemy force uses powerful cybernetic ships - a mixture of organic matter and technology
- enemy force "harvests" people, sometimes by open military action, other times by infiltration (even being worshipped on some worlds)
- refugee space station in the middle of nowhere is run by a rather amoral woman; she joins the end fight with her ragtag merc fleet
- final battle features the fleets of a multinational alliance assembled by a single ship's odyssey through space
- "final boss" has the appearance of a young human boy
Anyways, I suppose I can recommend giving Vandread a try, if you like the Space Opera genre and don't mind the ongoing back-and-forth between comedy and serious business.

Good action, cute girls, some decent comedy... way too many goddess damn lolis.
If you're even VAGUELY familiar with the warring states period it's either gonna be extra hilarious or drive you nuts seeing all sorts of historical figures hit with the R63 ray.

Oooooooh boy, you called Avatar an anime, a shitstorm is coming...
Incidentally, in Japan, anime is just a word used to describe animation of any form, so Disney stuff would be considered anime over there.
Also, not an anime (although there was an anime made of it) but I want to track down a copy of School Days. The way you have to earn your happy ending (and if you act like a jerkass and try to get all the girls, you end up with NICE BOAT), looks ingenious.

Isn't that one of those insane games where you end up getting your throat cut or something by a jealous ex? I seem to remember a cracked article about stuff like that.
Ironically Disney stuff (specifically duck tales) inspired the first of what we in the west call anime (being a style of animation originating in Japan) specifically Kimba the White Lion (which got made into/inspired the Lion King depending on how paranoid you are) and the now legendary Astroboy.
On the Avatar stuff the most hate I've seen over mislabeling it an "anime" has been from fans of the show. They get /testy/ about that sort of thing for some reason... also the live action movie which is apparently not to be spoken about.
On another Japanese term that means something entirely different in the west, how do you feel about being called, or other fans labeling themselves otaku? Personally I have a pretty strong opinion on the use of otaku mostly based on it being an insult. So taking it and trying to make it what it's not seems kinda dumb/ignorant to me. Like using "fethheads" to describe your subculture dedicated to whatever.

If a Japanese person (or someone very Japan savvy) called me an Otaku I would be quite offended (although I would consider whether or not they had a point first...) as it is a derogatory term. However, like Fujoshi (a Japanese nickname for obsessive Yaoi fangirls, meaning "rotten girl") it has sort of been reclaimed and used by Otaku with pride.
And yeah, several of the endings in School Days are...Gruesome. So if you play it, goddamnit I implore you...Treat the girls well. A few sexeh tiemz scenes are not worth a NICE BOAT ending.

Calling yourself Otaku is pretty lame, although I use the word as a noun that describes a plethora of things that don't necessarily imply it's actual meaning.. It's like the word "nerd". It describes all sorts of things, but really means nothing.

I refuse to play those nutty visual novels... if I was I'd probably go with My Girlfriend is President, as the thought of nearly causing a war because the President of Japan (who lives in the white house?) and the President of Russia (Putina XD) both have a crush on you is highly amusing.
Fujoshi? Finally a better insult then just calling someone out as a fangirl. This actually came up at the con I just attended in a panel and one fellow said "I think the use of Otaku's just a good marker on who really knows what they're talking about, if you don't know enough to be insulted anything you say should be considered suspect until proven otherwise." and while that might be a bit extreme I can't help but agree with the sentiment, especially as the term's usage in the US and the fandom in general usually implies a love and enjoyment of Japanese culture in general in addition to just anime, manga, cosplay and an ungodly amount of pocky.

I might make you slightly envious by mentioning that I went to sushi buffet today It's made by Koreans, but it's perfectly fine. Some of the delicate flavors of authentic sushi are washed out, but then again, it's 12 bucks a person. I've had a platter of dragon rolls that cost that much!

hell spit I've had a single roll that cost $12 before XD
My local place that gets all my sushi money is run by Japanese expats. So goddess damn good... the staff likes me because if I'm "on the floor" I sit seiza the entire meal.
