Obsidian is better against explosions. Easier to get too.

The problem with Obsidian is that if you misplace a block,it's a pain in the butt to fix.

I was going to, but I fell in lava by accident and died, and forgot where the entrance was.
I either have redstone torches up, two torches there or for a large cave, a big wooden arrow pointing down in the air with torches on the top and at each spike.

My little town is almost done, I just need to add a chapel, and a 6 more houses along with the Greater workshop and outer walls, and It will be done!

The "World of Warcraft" seed is good fun! lots of lava lakes in one area, about 6 or 7 near a giga-cave. Like 404, but multiple exits. according to the cave radar I have (map reader) I have only explored 35 to 40 percent of it. I have a few iron, and LOTS of coal. No diamond or gold yet....just not deep enough.

My fortress is almost finished. A solid 3 layer house, with two levels and an interior stairwell, with escape option, backs up to a lava pond (widened) with a dog protecting it.

I have also started my strip mining scheme in the grass biome nearby, probably will expand that through the desert biome cause there is plenty of minerals in the mines there....also the rest of my 1000 torches grrrrr.

how'd you get a dog?!

I wonder if I'm the only person who's not wild about caves. They feth up my nicely laid out tunnel systems.

I just hate large multilevel caves. I'm always afraid that a creeper will drop down onto me.

Leave them, squids are awesome.

Yeah I'd leave them. You'll find black sheep more often than you'll find squids. Makes them kind of pointless.

I might try to coax them into another cave...then have glass walls, kind of an aquarium...

haha thats what i want to do in my glass house, i miss calculated the glass squares so id like to have a squid aquarium. now i just have to figure out how to get squids up where my house is lol.

Squids can't swim up but a fishing rod may work...

I've trapped three squids in a box underwater several minecraft days ago, and they're stil there. Only thing is how do I get them to the surface without having to build a tunnel and wait for all three to go in, boxing it up and doing that for hours?

Just lost about 100 torches, 20 redstone torches, a bucket, 64 cobblestone, 5 glass, 12 diamond, 3 gold, 14 iron and my diamond shovel & pickaxe by falling into lava! I mined a wall next to me, water poured out and pushed me into lava.

Aww, poor baby :(

Oh well, I've just found another cave system and got more than my items back...

Use the shift button!

Unless it changed it should also stop you from being swept off of a block by water. Too late now, but it will help you if it happens again.

anyone else tried the cave finder texture pack?

He, um...I wanna load a minecraft map I've downloaded, but when I've downloaded it, and click on "create new world", all it says is to type in the map seed.

You should be able to just put it in the savegame folder, though you should make sure it doesn't share the same name as an existing save.

so:
app data -> minecraft -> saves -> new world -> region?
or app data -> minecraft -> saves -> new world?
or something else?

Just put the directory that has level.dat in it in saves, I presume.

Who else loves the new wolves as much as i do?

Also, a little tip: Remember what you have in your hand before you get your dog to sit, i just learned the hard way that it will not work while carrying a bow...
