Ha, what coincidence! I just finished building the terrain in my kill team set yesterday afternoon. Your effort inspires me to hurry up and paint it. Good luck in your games and I hope life affords you ample hobby time.

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.

I build IG...lots and lots of IG.

Thanks dude. I hope you enjoy painting the terrain. It's a great set and goes together well. I plan to use it tonight for a re-start of our Kill Team campaign. I've not had much impetus or time for modelling but there has been a bit of effort on the Dread I'll try to upload some pics soon.

Sorry I'm away in Cornland and missed your post.

That would be a crap ton of models. Holy crap, we'd need croupier rakes, a team of trained beagles and a therapist each to manage it all. I'm pretty close to finishing my SM company and would love to field all of the SM together at least once however. Be about 6-7k in points.

I'm not sure about the new rules the idea of using what I assume to be WotR style movement trays puts me off. Default 40k is almost exactly the Apocalypse we used to play anyway with strategems and super heavies. If the new system seems to add something useful I'm willing to give it a chance.

I will of course be requesting ICBM support! Especially if the tide turns against us. Nuking from orbit is often the only way to be sure.

*blows dust off thread*

*cough-cough*

So it's been awhile. I've had a lot of real life stuff to do and coupled with a lack of enthusiasm, I've not picked up a brush recently. I have started to do bit now and have been enjoying it so thought I'd go back to posting.

The main project has been painting the 'temptor. I've started his basing here too. The basic colours are laid down and the gold/silver bits are done, as well as the first bit of blue highlighting. I put on lots of white sections to show he's from the 1st Co..

Also in the drying/can't face it times I've assembled and undercoated a Razorback with choice of turrets and top hatch.

I've also started a 'Heroforge' printed model for a friend I erratically play D&D (well Pathfinder) with. We're playing 'Skulls & Shackles' adventure so are all piratey like. His dude is a Mwengi (sp?) tribesman mage kind of deal. He's fat and kind of a drunkard (the character, not my friend, he isn't a drunkard [ba-dum-tish]), hence the womanly hips and discarded bottles all over his base. I'm trying to paint him to break me back into painting more and the Contemptor feels a bit intimidating ATM. I haven't painted anything not 40k for ages as well.

Well I hope you'll stick with me and see how long this lasts this time.

More soon!

Thanks! Great to hear from you both.

I've played a few games of KT here and there and also this game where we adapted army lists and used the rules for 'Beyond the Gates of Antares' as we both like a lot of the ideas in that system but find the models uninspiring. It was an interesting experiment but the sides where unbalanced and terrain/luck etc meant I was totally pwned (#tauarebrokeninbeyondthegatesofantares) but it might be worth revisiting sometime. There are some great ideas in it, like alternating activation (sort of), pinning being meaningful etc but it also feels kind of boring/tame or something. Needs moar flaming skullz. Got to break out the new terrain and use fully painted sides which is always good.

MLCS has invested in a 4x4 battlemat which is realy nice and an upgrade to the green square we've been using. We played a game of KT on it on Monday and I used IG for the first time. He took some pics and might post them up at some point.

Been painting still and will post up some more shots soon.

I can't remember if that's the one MLCS was talking about but we couldn't find a *cough* PDF version. We were considering getting a copy but not yet seriosly. He'll turn up in here sooner or later and can confirm.

Oh right.

I think I found the one I was thinking of, which was 'Spectre Operations' (similar name [it begins with an 'S']).

I was catching up on your blog and found mention of Strikepoint now. Let us know if you want playtesters, I used to do it when my friend ran Grublin Games.

In an attempt to get myself back into painting I started this DnD model for a friend.

These are the base colours he requested..

Here it is mostly done. I want to check in with him before doing anything else and maybe nothing else is needed. Possibly some grime. We were supposed to be on this week but we had to cancel for the 3rd week in a row, bleh.

The Laserback is progressing too...seen here newly drybrushed..

Some slow progress on this guy but I've only the fiddly bits to do now and I'm not feeling it yet..

Wezex wrote:Really enjoying the darker armour for the Ultra's, plus some of the details on the PDF add really some really cool character to them!

Thanks! I've noticed GW getting darker on the blue too. It's much nicer I think and more adult looking (but not, you know, adult). I tried hard to get a lot of character and interest into my IG horde so I'm glad you like it.

SO here's a bit more hot brush action:

I painted most of the base in. I wanted the paneling he's standing on to look pretty weathered. I drybrushed it boltgun and then washed it with bronzed flesh. I stippled a bright orange on and then more boltgun...

I started a '1' on his knee the same as Invictus has, seen here:

'Cos it's the 1st Company innit.

Tah dah! I also added a 4 onto his shoulder, showing he's the 4th Dread in the 1st Co.

I, originally, added a 'U' onto the shoulder. I think I will do the 'U's and '4's on the front and side of each shoulder. I've seen a simple weathering idea for the white in a WD I want to try.

That was exhausting. Hope you like. He's getting close to being done now and I think that's creating some forward inertia.

Looks great.
The shoulder pads look a bit stark in the pics.
Maybe a cheeky laurel border somewhere if you fancy pickling your brain?
Would link the knee nicely. ..

Hiya! Ah well more has progressed..see what you think..

I've repeated the symbols on both side of the shoulders..

Thusly. I also added tiny chips in Scorched brown and drippy bits in Argax to weather the white..

I think it's worked out and was quite quick to do.

Various other bits have been tinkered with, the eyes got more contrast, and the blues more highlighting, I'll do some scratches in the lighter highlights too..

Some seen here. This pic is a bit glarey and some of the white areas are being bleached, will try harder.

So it's nearing being done now. I want to do some 'heat damage' on the AC as well, then a bit more tinkering on the body and base and it will be finished!

Also, Alex, I'm getting some kid free time soon if you fancy any 'fun' possibly just drinking or possibly some Apocalypse?

Just a little update, He's finished now I will do pics and post them soon.

I wanted to do some heat damage on the Kheres AC so I started with a wash of bronze over most of the length of the barrels. Then I thinned a purple, blue and black and added them over smaller amounts of the weapon. I'm not totally sold on the finish but right now I'm about down with this thing. I did a few washes of Argax and black over the little vents just behind the barrels.

I'm going to finish the Laserback next I think then tackle one of the 2 remaining infantry units.

Toodles!

Thanks a lot dude, glad you like it. Some of the weathering was experimental (the white) and I'm glad with how it turned out.

Just for the record, I never use transfers and all detailing is freehand.

I finally managed to finish it! (that's what she said etc).

Rawg. Heretics Suck!

With Launcher. I think I prefer without (that's what she said) the Cyclone as it is a bit less than slimming...

The base. I like the browns and oranges as a contrast to the blue etc. The panels are from a knackered old Necromunda bulkhead I chopped up.

This was supposed to show the white weathering but it's a bit out of focus. Heat damage on AC is seen a bit here.

Also here.

Strike a pose.

Overall I'm really pleased with how he's come out. Took ages but there was also a 2-3 month gap when I couldn't even look at him (that's what she said). I wanted it to be a bit of a centerpiece model and it's part of my 1st Company contingent (along with Captain in Termie armour, 2 squads of Termies and a unit of Sternguard). I'm slightly tempted by another one of these, probably with twin lascannon but no plans to get one yet.

I'm working on the Razorback now which will not get as much TLC as this thing. Most of my vehicles were done some time ago and so painted more simply. To do the new one to a higher standard would only highlight that the other are more basic (and I can't be arsed). Anyway more on that soon.

Hope you like the 'temptor and hope it was worth the wait. Answers on a postcard as to what I should name him!

Truly top-notch work on the contemptor dread, Randy. Your darker blue really works incredibly well on large surfaces and does look much more grown-up than the lighter blues that I often see on ultras.

Thanks! I think it's one of the best things I've painted really. I much prefer the darker tone, I don't do technicolour rims on shoulder pads or anything and try to have a more military and less Hasbro/saturday morning cartoon kind of vibe (looks at Aggressors and Centurions disapprovingly).

I've been painting still, riding high on this current wave of enthusiasm. I've pretty much done the Razor and will do pics for it soon. After that there's 1 Tack and 1 Assault squad plus a standard bearer and I'm finished on my battle company plus serious reinforcement from the other companies/armoury. I really want to get them all done at the moment and am trying to keep up the pace. After that? There's a big pile of Primaris but I'm waiting for the next Codex before clipping any of those dudes. With the datasheet from the new store sarg there seems to be some changes and hopefully a less than balls Codex is around the corner so this can be less of a painting & modelling project!

Hiya.

I've been a bit ill, just a coldly thing but it's coincided with the boy thing finishing school for summer and a heatwave. It's been a bit of a test but hopefully I can make it to his grans on Monday and ship him off for 5 lovely days and maybe get enough space to get over this.

Still I have managed to keep the painting going here and there and these pics are proof(!):

My last (sniff) Tactical squad (No6) has been undercoated, I built these sometime ago but have finally sprayed them..

This puppy is nearly done now...

Which is nice. I'm not doing a mega job on it, or these Tacks, they need to fit in with the rest and I can't be arsed.

Once these Tacks are done I'm only looking at an Assault squad and a standard bearer to finish off the Company! Strewth.

Moar soon.
