Thanks guys

I think I'm gonna just paint the Malignos however instead of doing any more research on schemes. I think I'll do one side normal, then a blue/white glowy line (green/yellow is more in theme but it may not be obvious enough at a distance.. maybe though we'll see!) and the other in a greyscale on the darker side, complete with the same blotchy skin and spots, just in greys and black, to suggest the stealth systems cycling or whatever.

Shrouded sniper is just gonna get normal paint, I realize he's still getting camo benefits once revealed but the other shrouded looks fine without some kind of active effect.

Then I'm not sure. Maybe some Mars Attacks, but maybe I'll do those other Nomads that I've had prepped for awhile. I wanna get to icestorm but I've kind of got a thing about priming models and not finishing them lately. Of course my Marauders want a word with me about that one... sorry d00ds.

Hopefully I'll get tired of FFT soon and go back to my paint-as-often-as-possible-even-if-it's-only-5-minutes-at-a-time system, but my epic Dance Party led by DJ Grimsong is burning a path across Ivalice showing no signs of stopping...

I can handle oddly cool

I've got the skin done on the last two Shasvasti. Doing the greyscale 'cloaked' side in time with the normal side on the malignos. It's fun to do so far, but I'm not sure of the final effect. Might consider washing it a color, maybe blue for the effect.. dunno we'll see what it looks like when he's more or less done. Goes pretty fast in general, the skin isn't quite the halfway point but I'm getting places.

Alright shift in momentum. I keep having these... urges... guys. Dark urges. Chaotic urges. I think I may want to... work on some space marines... GASP!

Probably not loyalists. I think the only way I'm doing any more marines is if I tall-scale them and that takes a lot of time and effort, hard to justify for a squad based game. Maybe just for fun sometime. But no darker still are my thoughts.
CHAOS!

Gulp!

I've always wanted to work on chaos stuff. Well not always, but intermittently. Probably not necessarily honest-to-the-dark-gods chaos, something a bit skewed from that. Probably no chaos symbols, I'm thinking of using sedition wars strain and the plague from deadzone, greenstuff... what not. Something like techno-zombie space marines. And zombie space marines. And mutant space marines. May or may follow chaos enough to usethem for 40k.

What can chaos take? I don't think I have a codex and only know a bit about them, obviously space marines but I keep hearing abut cultists and demons and stuff.

Meh we'll see where this goes, maybe nowhere.

Admission is the first step HERETIC!
ahem...

At the moment, Chaos have three things going on, really:
- Chaos Marines of all types, including Cult Marines and Chosen, which are just CSM+1
- Cultists: the cannon fodder, bought in big blobs dirt cheap, and can be upgrade to Zombie with a certain character.
- Demon Engines, which, as the name suggests, fit at various places on the scale between Demon and machine. On the mechanical end you've got Defilers and old style Dreadnoughts, on the more ambiguous end you have Helbrutes (the demonDreads), Fiends (DemonDinosaurs) and the Heldrake (flying DemonDinosaur).

So there's a lot of potential for what you want to do with the last two, and a lot of chaos lists these days are lots of Cultists with Demon Engine/vehicle backup and only a few actual CSM.

The Combined Army looks awesome, I would stick with the Sectoral Army personally, I like strong themes in my armies and all that slimy green looks awesome.

My vote for your next painting project is more Mars Attacks, loved that movie and want to see some of your cinematic photo's for them.

See My Crazy Army plan here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/521618.page#5517409

@Archer, yeah I'm probably gonna stick to Shasvastii for now. If I get more CA it will probably be a concentrated shot of Morats, unless it's way down the road and its those new guys (though I'm not necessarily jiving with them at this point).

I'm definitely considering doing some Mars Attacks soon. I've got a few more Infinity models sitting up on nails demanding paint, but I may take a martian grunt break and maybe paint a hero soon.

Still torn on how to paint the marines. Part of me wants to do them like my corporation marines, as a lower tier of grunts/fodder/chaff, and part of me wants to make them look like proper army. I'll bust out martians and white/black/red marines and non-gamers will likely scratch their heads in consternation. However, for me, I think that's what I'd like to do. Letting the dip handle the white parts, they'd be pretty quick too, mostly putting down the grey-black, red, and flesh.

@Paradigm, certainly I'll have loads of zombies at my disposal It may be fun to cobble together some monstrous strain/zombie marines too. Does the Typhus 'moar zombehs than you can reasonably keel' approach work? What would you take with the big blobby squads of zombies?

Can you still take 3-man squads of terminators? Those always seemed neat, and I guess obliterators work well with the whole techno-zombie theme.

Interesting take on models I know nothing about. I like the variety you put into your model ranges. Dem clear acrylic bases, you sell them well!

The multiple zombie ranges we have could make for some excellently varied hordes. Z-Corp alone I thought was good for that, but adding in these others... sweeeet.

I think it probably works (so long as you're not taking it to a Grand Tourney); in my experience with horde Guard once you hit 100+ models for troops and then throw in support you can just walk up to the objective and sit there.

However, the Zombies do forgo any actual shooting, I believe, so you want the rest of the army to do damage. To this end, you'll want a Heldrake or two to fight from above, some Termies/Oblits to DS and kill stuff with melta, and maybe some bikers to provide a little mobility/durability. For the core of the army, though, 3x30 Zombie Squads should do nicely and leave you with points to play with.

@Barzam: Thanks, will probably get more Gwailos as time goes on. Warsenal sells these:

at 3 for $5 or 5 for $7, which is probably my best bet in the states. I think all you could need would be five since Gwailos are ava 4 and there's a character who can link with them that also has a screen. For now, I'm likely to stick the little plastic sheet they give you on a spare base and use that for pictures and what not.

@Yonan, I like clear acrylics. I kind of miss doing fancy custom bases, and I've got 50 sedition wars bases going to waste, but I really like clear acryilcs. I'm getting more and more excited about deploying a huge 'combined army' of various zombies I think I'll go over them all with shiney void-black eyes to tie them into the NEMESIS concept.

@Paradigm:
Huh heldrake. I would have to extend the tail on one of those to really like the kit. And stomach buying another GW kit Maybe as something to get at the end if I really wanted to go from "Generic Scifi Zombie Horde" to 'something I may get to play 40k with', getting a few things like that would do the trick. I'm pretty sure terminators and oblits would be great fun to convert, and I have several loyalist terminators I could use for a base-line. Maybe even convert the bikers too, I've got 9 DV bikers and a few others besides, and some kind of fallen-angels-meets-cyborg-zombie theme may just be the ticket

I could always get good 'ole Mortis to stand in for Typhus:

Though, converting him from scratch (well a terminator base) could be a lot of fun I know I've got a few scything talons to choose from for his scythe.

May try to put some paint onto those last couple of shasavastii this morning, may go dig up an army builder and armchair general for a bit scheming up a chaos list I have little chance to play

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Certainly, it seems like typhus plus 90-100 zombies leaves loads of room for oblits, termicide, bikers, a heldrake (i don't like spamming big things usually, like to do the kit once generally speaking) and so on depending on the list size.

Will have to keep this in mind. Maybe use the strain and or plague to fix up some terminators and oblits

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Really it's just an excuse to mutilate some space marine bits and use up my strain models... The plague are fine as is but having an up-armored and up-gunned zombie/mutant element to my NEMESIS hordes will be welcome. If I don't claim my marine bits in one project or another eventually I'll have to sell them to feed my hobby addiction...

@Azazelx yeah I probably will do that. I could just play Infinity with them as Red suggests, but Deadzone has AI and zombie rules too so I can play by my own lonely self.

@Red, would that I could find somebody to play Infinity....

Yes, outdoor lighting. I had a space set up in the garage that kind of used the garage door as a giant light defuser but I've moved stuff around. I'll probably need to go back to that set-up though as the light is too harsh.

What's really annoying is it's still £40 ($65!) at least over here, which is just not quite cheap enough to make it a no brainer. It it hit £30 I'd grab it in a flash, but for minis that really won't get used beyond painting fodder it's just a little to much at the moment.

For the £20/$30 you guys are paying, I'd buy two!

The saddest part is that what I'm probably going to get the most use out of the SW bow are the floor tales, scenic bases, and translucent green counters.

Unless I convert the infected to Chaos models they are not likely to see any practical use.

It was a great deal at miniaturemarket, and I'm glad I'm not the only one picking them up. Plenty of fodder for my iron warriors to send forward to use up the imperium's ammunition. Anyone looking for these in England might try the swap shop here on dakka. I've picked up a couple $100 pledges for $20 bucks , some kickstarter people are still so put off by it they are tossing them away.

Yes, they can. Hell, I even pulled my own battle systems fantasy terrain pledge due in part to not having my stuff from the first one before the second one funds. Mostly it was due to lack of funds at the moment, but a little bit was casual spite, just a little.

Huh yeah there look to be a couple of people within a couple of hours drive If I still lived in springfield I'd have to look a couple of them up. I assume there are a reasonable number of players within driving distance of Miniature Market due to what I assume is a reasonable volume of infinity sales, but it's just a guess (and still a couple of hours away ).

Too bad getting time to play is almost as hard as finding players!

Woowoo! Got some stuff done Finished my Shrouded Sniper and Malignos Sniper yesterday, got them onto bases and photographed today. Took obligatory shots of the rest as well.

PICTURES!

Group shot - wide. This is my entire Shasvastii Sectorial until I get some more, which won't be happening till xmas at the earliest (unless I get some amazon credit built back up ).

Speculo Killer and my latest mini, the Shrouded Sniper on the right.

The Up-front contingent, these guys don't roll with camo (well the seed-soldiers start with it but only for the first turn before they pop out of their pods). The seed-soldiers are grunts, they're decent but fairly basic. They start the game in camouflaged seed-pods. The Gwailos has a swarm of nano-bots that fly around as mobile cover, so he's quite happy to engage things in the open when it's required.

The sneaky d00ds, these guys all have Camo. The sniper's role is obvious. The Aswuang in the front likes to get in close, root his targets, then devour them to gain wounds! The Shrouded on the right is capable of standing in as several important roles from Lieutenant to mine layer, forward observer, and maybe another.

Here's the side of the models that I'll be most likely to see while playing them Some of them have a few neat details that don't show from the front like the tendrils that connected the seed-soldiers to their pods. I think the Malignos's stealth effect looks better from this side too.

Here's the malignos engaging his Thermo-optic camouflage systems.

A couple of Atmospheric shots:

Sister Superior, forgive my being so forward, but you've been acting strangely today...

\
Ahh! That would explain it...

As always, please feel free to comment and critique, banter, and generally hang out. I still want to go back and tweak some of the lighting and anything bright yellow or green. I think this is the largest sub-project I've done in a little while. The plague and enforcer teams being the last such that got finished in a straight line. There are some more pictures in the gallery this time.

Got some Martian grunts cleaned up, I'm either gonna go prime those or get to work on some soldiers and a survivor. Deadzone Wave 2 should arrive tomorrow so I'll probably be doing unboxes of that stuff soon too.

For fun, here's all of my Infinity stuff to date:
