Overly simplistic and subject to change but you get the picture.

Okay that did not translate properly but you can still get the point

Well, for starters the Ratlings are minimum 9" back from the edge of your deployment zone because the Nurglings/Scouts force them to deploy 18" from them so they aren't doing anything for your screen.
you do realize you CAN deploy Ratlings as a normal unit right?

At which point you paid extra points for an ability you never got to use. Five Ratlings as a line unit are a joke. Like seriously, your opponents are trash if you went 12-0 with that list.

I mean it shows too. This guy above thought that the Swarmlord + Gargoyles is the solution to a guard list full of tanks. He's created a strategy that will be wounding these tanks on 6s once the Swarmlord dies. Like piling into something is enough to somehow win the fight.

You realize goal isn't to KILL them but keep them from shooting until the ones that kill arrive. Tank in combat is useless tank. You need just one model per tank to get into contact to do it's job. 2 if you want to play it safe. Tag all tanks like that, IG army is not shooting as much as it could giving the real killers time to arrive. Or what? You prefer to be shot? Your swarmlord will btw live lot longer if enemy cannot shoot their big guns.

From the example deployment above remove 3 tanks, chimera and maybe even manticore and see what shoot backs? Ratlings, baneblade, 1-2 manticore...Whooo! That's going to wipe out your army completely eh?

DC is frankly a joke vs well screened ig lists. The BA will never get through them in time.

There's also the fact that with enough screens, you can just ignore 1st turn charges. What the hell are you guys doing? Forgetting to shoot for an entire turn? You have the autowin button called fall back. Assault units are damned if they make the charge and damned if they fail.

Did I say one unit? If I did my bad, I meant more like his whole army death company are just the flashy thing that hits the hardest to me. I'll go back and fix it if I worded that wrong.

They keep "tri locking" to keep me from falling back, and he's sending in way more than just one death company squad, more like 80% of his army. The main core is death company, smash man (who I've had hilariously bad luck against, I swear he always rolls a 16 and flies over my screen to get a tank) and then he runs a host of assault scouts, stormbolters, these weird space marine heavy mortars, and other high volume of fire weapons that are meant to be in your face turn 1 and wreck your screen. It can absolutely tear up about 40-60 men on the first turn and get through to your tanks on some deployments. Believe it or not, I don't like running soup so I have nothing to push back his deepstrike bubble turn 0 (the point of his "assault scouts") so while that's on me, I'd feel incredibly cheesy bringing scouts just to deepstrike deny. My list is also hardly optimal, because I don't have 6 basilisks laying around and I don't run cadian/catachan

I absolutely play in a weird meta and would hardly call my situation typical, but when you don't get first turn against that kind of blood angels list and don't have time to spread out, there are a few deployments where it doesn't matter what kind of a screen I do, unless I put infantry base to base around my tanks (where he will just shoot them away) he can fly over or into the screen to go after my tanks and other units. Then he burns his attack again stuff and really does some damage.

Like I said though, I've been having a run of bad luck where I've not gotten first turn and been stuck on bad deployments. It'll probably change when I get a game of hammer and anvil or another deployment where I can defend in depth better. And I've actually tied him or won most games, it's just usually a blood bath and very close with most models dead on both sides. I'd love to see you chase down a blood angels player with leman russe's and infantry, it's not exactly easy.

I hope early on, because waiting until the end of month will have the community on edge. I would expect a week before Adepticon at least though - so the 18th.

Realistically only one unit gets the 3D6 per turn. Yeah, he can try other 9" charges, but they are super risky and they will backfire more often than not. If you aren't running triple basilisk triple manticore or Russ spam I can see where things get a bit harder because then bolters start to mean more against your list. The DC can do a lot of damage, but against IG they're still just 4ppm models. You still come out ahead. Even if he kills 60 men, you kill 10 BA back and its even, because BA usually have some bling on them.

For true horror realize that Raven Guard can infiltrate aggressors and assault centurion. BA are limited to what we can squeeze onto jump packs. Raven guard will be a vastly superior choice once Dark Reapers are dealt with I think.

Also, i have gone second 11 times in a row and have never gone first vs ig in 8th.

Yeah, I'm afraid they're gonna lump it in with the tau faq. Which if they hold true to their own standards will be out on the 31st, which is still March

I'm hoping before the tau codex to be honest, because I want to get it over with so I have nothing else to look forward to except that new knight

I do not even want to wait till the 18th. You'd think Warhammer Community would at least be putting up some pieces foreshadowing its arrival.

I haven't seen any signs that this would be a paid update in march.

Reminds me of when PP once released a big FAQ right before the WTC after the lists were locked in. That was pretty funny. I hope the same level of drama results.

Well I tell you what Martel, I'll show you a rough version of his list (I don't have an exact copy) and what I typically run. Whatever he is doing does pretty well, you may find it's worth a shot. After this post it may be best to go to PM, I'm kind of dragging us off topic.

His big power play is the scouts assisting the death company, they're essentially just like the Raven guard infiltrate, aka deploy at 9" then move up for maybe a 3" charge. He also has a librarian with a movement spell. Between this and other stuff dropping in it's pretty crazy. Basically he causes a ton of chaos turn one and the rest hits turn 2 as you stabilize your line. He's still tweaking it and the primaris are placeholders till his DKOK come in but I think this is close to what he runs, I believe as a brigade

Spoiler:

Smash captain

Some sort of cqc librarian with that move again pyskers power

Must be a 3rd HQ I'm forgetting

X3 scout squad with stormbolter Sarge and bp/ccw

X3 bare minimum primaris for objectives (will be replaced soon)

Some 5marine command squads packing lots of plasma and stormbolters

Bolter inceptor squad (he may take more of these or less, he's unsure)

Scout bikers with just bolterz and I think shotguns, all I know is theyre cheap and have lots of shots

X2 of these weird artillery mortar things with 2 crew from forgeworld. Heavy mortars or something like that

Lascannon Dev squad (imo a weaker part of his list, but when he places them right obviously they can do some damage)

And for my list. Keep in mind I run Valhalla, so conscripts are actually useable for me in theory. I'm actually being a bit paranoid and testing some ideas of what could happen with the faq, so you'll see some weird stuff. One of the big ones, will conscripts as Valhalla work if the rumored 5ppm guardsmen is true. The other (power mauls on everything) is me testing another theory to see if they're worth taking.

Valhalla as a reminder let's me cut battleshock in half, I double my wounds for damage table purposes on tanks, the relic mk 45 gives me an old commissar, and my order allows infantry to fire into combat with friendlies. This list idea is basically designed to be able to go second and survive then punish alpha strikes. It still needs work but the idea is fun to run at least. Obvious disclaimers apply (no primaris pyskers, leman russe's are modeled that way, don't own any Arty other than one manticore, no Stormtroopers, etc.) Basically I'm making the best of the models I have

Also catachan and cadia bore me to rears as regiment traits. I'm fully aware they're the best in most situations, but I enjoy trying out something different. I also play a variety of opponents, including altaioc eldar, so this list wasn't built just to tailor to this player, it's more just he runs the typical kind of thing I expect to face and he was the best one to test the idea on. Since he's working on ways to bust open screens it's been good practice for both of us.

Spoiler:

HQ
Company commander BP/power maul Mk45

Company commander shotgun/power maul grand strategist/kurov aquilla

Company commander shotgun power maul

Company commander shotgun power maul

Elite

Command squad with flag

Command squad with flag

Ogryn bodyguard with slagshield, maul, plate

Plasma SWS

Plasma SWS

Priest with power maul

[Troops]

29 conscripts

29 conscripts

X6 lascannon/plasma infantry squad

Fast attack

X3 Lascannon scout sentinel (definitely would prefer something else)

Heavy support
X4 leman Russ Battle tank with hull lascannon

Manticore with heavy flamer and stormbolter

Scout Bikes are underrated chaff clearers for sure.

I don't see why people would play BA without a squad of Sanguinary Guard.

No, but I seem to recall a WHC post mentioning other stuff they might preview at Adepticon. I can't find it now though.

I don't see how. Their cost is trivial and they will wade into things.

SG are hyper expensive, lol. Guardsmen and Orks are trivial. They also die to overcharge plasma REAL good, so you have to be careful. Super careful.

I just bought 3 boxes of them from what had to be the last place in america they existed, so if these are changed in any way im gonna be miffed. Lol

Blood Angels, Custodes, Tzeentch, Alpha Legion, Astra Militarum, Deathwatch, Thousand Sons, Imperial Knights, Tau, Genestealer Cult.

I have a problem.

Being contrary for the sake of being contrary doesn't make you unique, it makes you annoying.

Scout bikers look WAY cooler than SM bikers. That face mask is really cool. And power armor just looks clunky, scouts look way more suited for speed.

Shotguns only have a 12" range so i doubt they'll see nerfs.
