So my collection of paints have finally all dried up to the point of no return (I've had them for years, miraculously) after a long period of disuse. What with me having spare time now to paint again, I'm thinking of just biting the bullet and buying a full paintset rather than buying a bottle or two here and there. Which would you all recommend (or not recommend)? A) Buy the Citadel Full Paint Set B) Buy the Vallejo Full Paint Set C) some other option? Also, where'd be best to order from? TheWarstore? Elsewhere? Thanks in advance.

I'd pick: B) Buy the Vallejo Full Paint Set Specifically the Vallejo Game Color series. They match Citadel's paint colors while providing better coverage, higher pigment density, vastly better bottles that don't dry your paints out, you get more paint (Vallejo is 17ml vs Citadel's 12ml), and they're cheaper to boot. As to where to find 'em, you're definitely not hurting for selection of online retailers here. If your local friendly hobby & game shop doesn't carry them, The War Store does, as does Chaos Mail Order (where I got mine), and several other webstores (WarWeb, Fantization, etc.).

As far as easy answers are concerned, I'd suggest A) . I find the paints to be more versatile, and the metals are far superioir. That said, your best option is to take the time to build your collection based on the strengths of the available ranges, and what you can do with them. A healthy paint set in an eclectic one.

My suggestion is try a few of each line first, then buy the line that you like. No sense purchasing an entire line of paints only to find out that you hate them.

I agree with Ghaz. While Vallejo and GW would be at the top of my list, I know that several of the vallejo game color are better than others, and others are identical to the GW namesakes. For example, I've found Vallejo's (Game Color) beasty brown and glorious gold are no different then the GW versions, bestial brown and shining gold. It is nice that you get a little bit more in the bottle (17ml to 12) but I don't like painting with a pallet, so I just bought GW empty paint pots and filled them up. I like that you can paint out of the cap with the GW pots.

I'd buy colors that you like, regardless of manufacturer. I use a combination of Vallejo Model Color, the old reapers, Game color inks, a few old Ral parthas, and even Delta Ceramcote for knock around painting.
Vallejos can clog, even the model colors. It's incredibly annoying, but it only seems to strike about 10% of the pots.
Generally, there isn't a substantial savings when buying a full set, especially since may stores will give you a discount if you buy a bunch ($3 bottles drop to 4 for $10, etc.)

i made this exact decision not a month ago. I went with Vallejo Game Colour from Thewarstore and don't regret it. Just make sure you get all the inks while you're at it.
Also, you can save some cash by not getting the box, but i didn't realize how hard it is to store 100 or so paints :\ ended up buying two wood boxes, which cost me the same as the case the box set comes in.
I'm very happy with the Vallejo overall, though i still use a few GW paints (white and black primarily) for quick touch ups when i don't want to waste a whole drop!
BTW if you're thinking of getting into airbrushing, i've had decent luck airbrushing the vallejo game colours, thinned with water in either 1:1 or 2:1 depending on the colour. Will be trying alcohol next

I'm a fan of Testor's paints. Testor's mix well and also has that canned air airbrush kit if you want to do some quick and dirty spraying.
