That is... One of the coolest, most original ideas I've ever seen.
I tip my hat to you, I wish I had the patience and skill to do something like this.

You know, I frankly doubt he has noticed this thread was resurrected...

But in any case, it is probably the best necron army I've seen.

Passed WBB!

In either case, I hope the OP sees this is back and adds more content.

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

We'll Be Back indeed.

so, i'm playing with these boys at Wintercon. all rather last minute, and its an 1850 tourney. so that meant i had two choices.

i could give my entire army disruption fields (horrendous waste of points) or i could make some more models over the course of three days

so, is anyone surprised that i went with option two?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
in answers to a few of the above questions (no, i hadnt seen these, i guess the subscriptions lapse after a while)

the scarab swarms are from Malifaux, there's no real conversions done to them (aside from a few minor leg-reposings, and the massively fiddly nature of the models that may count as conversion-work all on its own)

the plastic rods come from a company called Plastruct, who do all sorts of plastics, including glowy rods of many colours and sizes. so i got green ones the size of the orky guns

at the moment i am unsure what will happen with the new codex. Matt Ward does not inspire me to confidence, although i'm sure the codex will be balls-out crazy powerful, thats not what i look for in an army. the rumours i've heard don't look good for the most part. so we'll see. I have 25k worth of tyranids that havent come out of the box since the latest codex. it'd be a pity for these guys to go the same way, but i am working on some other projects as we speak (there is a new army with orky stylings that i intend to bring out at the end of october, and another or two in the works)

and i have 12 objective markers because:
a) i had twelve piggies, so figured i might as well paint them all at once
b) i loves the little piggies. i loves them good.
c) who knows, maybe i'll need 12 objectives in some crazy-ass scenario one day
d) all of the above

as to the fluff behind the army, here is my (nicely overwrought) army handout piece

There is a legend, amongst the wilds of the Ghoul Stars that tells of the lost Waaagh of mad mek Grimcog. They say that Grimcog was always considered mad, even by the standards of mekboyz, who are known for their instability at the best of times. Obsessed with bionik enhancement, he would scavenge any tech he could lay his grubby paws upon, incorporating them into his designs with brilliant ingenuity. As his bursts of mad creativity increased, he began to experiment upon himself, replacing with bionic contraptions any flesh lost to injury. They say that the real trouble started around the time he pillaged the Heretic Forges of Sycorax, a cursed place locked away for a millenia by ancient priests. They say he found the beginnings of his infernal machine within its catacombs and that breaking through the imperial quarantine he carried it with him upon his growing Waaagh. Where before his creative madness overtook him at intervals, they became the norm. Working for weeks at a time without pause, his army pillaged and raided seemingly at random, looting technology according to some schematic within his fevered visions. When the day came to unleash his greatest creation, it is said that all that remained of the flesh of Grimcog was his black heart and his mad brain. What the machine was supposed to do, noone knows for sure. Some say it was a weapon of unimaginable destructive potential, others, some form of force field technology that would render his army indestructible. Perhaps it was both, for when it was activated, the skies bristled with lightning and multicoloured arcs of strange energies, and at the height of its power, with a massed battle-cry upon its lips, Waaagh Grimcog simply vanished.
For thousands of years, the tale of Grimcog and his lost Waaagh languished in obscurity, a name whispered amongst tech heretics and historians, but recently the rumours have surfaced once more. Tales of a horde of mechanical warriors who strike with little warning and with no apparent pattern. Whose weapons cause their targets to vanish, leaving only the faint screams of the departed echoing around the warriors. Who cannot truly be killed, and when struck down seem to reform from the scattered gears and cables. Once again the name Grimcog is spoken with awe and fear, they say his Waaagh has returned, cursed (or perhaps to the orky thinking, blessed) with an existence of perpetual violence, searching the galaxy for something, stealing away men and xenos alike for their twisted experiments. A tale for housewives to frighten wicked little children. "Be careful," they say, "for one night as you lay in bed you may hear the relentless clicking of gears as they come for you, Grimcog and the Iron Orks."

That was a surprisingly successful thread necro .

Anyway; amazing, amazing work. Wraiths feel a bit bland compared to other conversions (and not like CC monsters) but this is a minor niggle that only stands out 'cos everything else is soooo awe-inspiring
