Hmm... perhaps 2 assault sqauds with jp then, against dark eldar you don't want much static units. 1 priest, also with jp and your hq. More or less the list goes like this:

2 Assault sqauds - 225pts each
each sqaud has a melta and a pf

1 Priest - 75pt
JP

which goes to 525 points, thats the best I can think of, move some things around to fit the HQ in and you are all set to crush them!

Exactly! And I know he will be taking a few lances, they'll be more worth his points if I take a dreadnought!

Okay, I now have a risky list, and a less risky list. The less risky is based on @conservationist's thoughts and goes as follows:

Captain 100
Assault squad w/ 2 plasma pistols, power weapon 235
Assault squad 190
Sanguinary Priest w/ jp
600

I cannot change the wargear on the assault squads, they are already modeled!

Or the riskier list:

Captain 100
5 man assault squad w/ 2 plasma pistols, power weapon 145
5 man assault squad 100
Librarian Dreadnought 175
Sanguinary Priest 75
595

The latter relies heavily on the librarian dreadnought to do a lot of damage, and use his psychic powers to full effect! What do you think?

With the riskier list I am sure that if the DE see you dreadnought they will use Dark Lances on it which as it's your only vehicle it will be the main target, where as with the first list they are all jump units I guess so the targets for the dark lances will be your Captain and Sanguinary Priest :S (which isn't good for me)

So really it's your choice but I would'nt bet on the Dreadnought making it's points back unless you are lucky with rolling saves.

And the safe list does have 20 space marines in 600 points, which isn't bad! I have one problem with both lists, though. My captain is the only non-jump infantry unit, so can't join squads or get into battle quick enough! :(

The safe list is better IMO, but you don't have meltaguns on the assault sqauds right? if not then its ok, just saying that if you are ever going to get another box of marines, arm them with melta's and a pf they will be able to reduce the Eldar's vehicles to slag in no time. Meanwhile, this list should do the job. Are you gonna deepstrike anything?

I was thinking that it would be safer (i'm not the best at rolling a scatter die ) to have everyone start on the board, and then none of my reserves would end up being late (i'm also not the best at those rolls) and if they all started, I could run a bit and the distance would be greatly reduced in no time!

Ye the one problem you will have with the Safe list is trying to break there tanks open as It might take a little while with only a plasma pistol.

The DE willl have a transport..As its low-armor the plasma could damage it..(could)

If I remember rightly, their vehicles are open-topped, which should make it a bit easier! And I think he only has the one!

even better, all ur units have frag and krak grenades..

I'd go safe even though I do like killing things I'd capture one objective with the non plasma squad and then kill maim and capture with the plas squad and sanguinary priest and just use your captain to help dafend your objective and countercharge possible threats.

Okay, final list is up! May or may not take photos, one assault squad and the captain are painted, the other assault squad basecoated, and Sanguinary Priest Valence is in mid-conversion!

Tactics-wise, I might split the plas-unit into combat squads, one with both the plasmas and the meltabombs to go after any tanks and the other with none, to go after any smaller units such as reaver jetbikes and the like! Then the other squad will go straight in at the warriors/wyches, do some damage before one squad (the best option will be picked at the time) will regroup on an objective! My captain will generally stick to cover, trying to help anyone out if needed!

If you split up, do one with power weapon and plasma: ati inf, 1 with meltabombs. Plasma aint good against tanks. Your frag and krak grenades are better lol.

Bu the sergeant takes the melta bombs, an he has the power sword! D: but I see what you're saying, plasma in a different combat squad to him!

Only problem with the DE is that those wyches have 4+ inv. save AFAIK. Save against a psyker who boils your blood, only because your quick? Watch out with psykers in further battles against them

Well my assault marines have FNP!

Im studying DE research right now... supremeoverlordVECT, my rivel ;P is playing them.. Their raiders have 9 armor, so meltabombs and even frag/krak grenades will be able to destroy it. Venom and razorwing have 10 armor.. Easy to destroy?

Depends on how good your opponent is with them. Same as hellions. VERY hard to use, from what I have heard.

It's his first battle, so hard to make effective? They all T3, S3 and squishy like eldar?
