Worship of Khorne always comes with a hefty dose of brutal awesomeness
I've also more or less caved to external pressure (curse you LeCacty!) and even though I did not find more bits bags to build marines from, I did manage to find a couple of interesting things on the glorious haven of capitalism that is eBay, namely:
- an old, half-finished Chaos Predator (which will get recycled for the Rhino I was trying (and failing) to scratchbuild)
- an old Chaos codex (for inspiration, mostly)
- and a trio of Stormcast Retributors from the AOS starter kit, which I'll convert the gak out of once I get my grubby hands on them.
I'll post an update on them once I've received them in the mail

Thunderhawk Pilot Dropping From Orbit

Update time!
I've been gathering some more supplies over the past few weeks, picking up a couple of things for my Chaos army (which is starting to become the biggest of all my current armies).
New additions to the Remnants include this awesome old-school Dread:
I fell in love with this model the moment I laid eyes upon the great sketch of it in that old Chaos 'dex I picked up some time ago. Most of my affection for it stems from the glorious weapon that is the Power Scourge, and the less daemonic look it sports; I have to admit that I prefer this guy over those Hellbrutes...
I've also slapped some more bits together to create more Marines, two of which are going to end up as Champions for the god they worship.
The first Champion is dedicated to Khorne (because I don't have enough of those guys yet), and goes by the name of Dezmon. Those of you who are following the Charadon Crusade in the Fiction department here on Dakka will recognize this guy as being a Berzerker champion who gets himself brutalized by a rather zealous Contemptor Dreadnought.
The biggest difference with the other marines is that this one's a traitor from one of the First Founding chapters, namely the Imperial Fists! Granted, his armour will be a bit more Chaos-y, but he'll still be wearing his former chapter's colours, which means he'll be the first yellow marine I've ever painted. And yes, I'll paint him on a black basecoat.
Where's that second suicide courage medal?
The other Champion is dedicated to Slaanesh, which means I'll be having some more fun with pinks and purples in the near future.
I really enjoyed modelling him, the bits just went together by themselves, really. I love how his pose shows a certain arrogance and confidence, his sword casually resting on his shoulder as he looks for a worthy opponent
Next up a sergeant for the non-existing Havoc squad:
I'm considering giving him a techmarine's backpack, I got a metal one in my bits box which I was going to use for my Death Ravens, but I guess there's no limit to the things the Remnants can steal from the Loyalists
And lastly, a regular Marine with a Plasma gun, a bit boring pose-wise but he doesn't look too bad;
I've also acquired an old Chaos Predator, which I'm going to use as both a Predator and a Rhino (multi-functionality, everyone!), with some smaller conversions here and there.
That's all I have for you now, hopefully I'll be able to show more painted models next time!

Aww don't curse me, and if you do, do so in the name of slaanesh. Looks like some nice new additons, but I feel like some variation in the pauldron department may be needed for more specialized squads. You may want to check some third parties. And maybe make some marines with other pattern armor. Thunder warriors. Chaos. Yes.

As for the shoulder pads, my supply of Chaos ones is already spent, I'll have to grab some new ones sometime. And some backpacks, because I'm not too big of a fan of the old Berzerker ones. I'll definitely give third party suppliers a try though!

It's Heresy time!
Well, a little bit of Heresy anyway.
So, I've been busy for the past weeks, mostly with getting myself ravaged by the cruel dragon that is real life, but I finally managed to squeeze in some time to paint another member of the Remnants.
I went for one of the last two Alpha Legion operatives, this time their elusive boss, known as 'Operative Snake'. His crew sometimes refer to him as Big Boss, although they never do so in his presence, as it seems to trigger some kind of traumatic experience, which apparently involved an individual known as Liquid, otacons, metal gears and incontrollable sobbing.
Here's some pictures of the old, slightly mad Operative:
Had a lot of fun painting this guy, even managed to finish him in one sitting!
And here's the group so far. Now only one operative remains (hah!), namely Operative Pyro, who I will hopefully paint sometime soon
After that, I'm either going to paint their handler (the Alpha Legion operative), or finally get around to painting Sisyphus, the warband's first Hellbrute.
Hope you enjoy, and I hope I can bring you more content in the future

Thanks guys!
I had hoped to be able to show you the last operative of the group, but I'm unable to continue at the moment as my regular brush has become completely unusable and Pyro's arm refuses to stay attached to him (in a book, we'd call that foreshadowing).
So yeah, no update in the painting department.
What I can show you is the first of what will be my counts-as Biker squad, built from the Chaos Knights kit:
I added the backpack to 40k-ify this rider, and gave him a mutated scythe-arm, because Papa Nurgle needs to harvest some fools
Currently, I'm thinking of making the Bikers the "5 Horsemen of the Apocalypse", with one biker for each god and one Undivided one. They'll sport more mutations than the regular troops, because you don't get to ride a Warp-possessed daemonic steed without receiving a few 'gifts' first...
Also, Sisyphus the Hellbrute decided that the Remnants have been too kid-friendly lately, so he ripped a Loyalist apart and now carries its corpse around like some macabre trophy:
Those of you with a sharp eye might also notice a small icon on his chest, meant to resemble the Death Guard's old icon. Funnily enough, I made that from an old Slaaneshi icon
That's it for now, hopefully I'll be able to buy myself a decent brush again in the near future so I can finish up Pyro

That Hellbrute is simply epic. If you're feeling up to it, you can paint that Marine in the colors of one of your regular opponents (if one of them plays Marines).

Trust me, repositioning that arm wasn't as easy as you would imagine. Cutting it off in the first place required the use of an electric saw-thing (I have no idea what it's called in English), followed by a heavy dose of Green Stuff. Unfortunately, my GS skills aren't up to much, so there's this massive lump of GS covering half the Hellbrute's shoulder. Also, I really messed up the assembly, so there were a lot of holes I needed to plug with GS as well, which didn't work out as planned... I really hope I can fix that while painting
And yeah, the rider will get one of those round biker bases eventually, I just used the one from the Chaos kit because I was just too lazy to take the other one

Thank you! I was thinking of painting him up as belonging to one of the SM armies from the Charadon Crusade, as I don't have any regular opponents game-wise (yet!)

Hey guys, I've got a miniature update for you.
I still haven't made much progress painting-wise, although thanks to my lovely girlfriend, I now have an assortment of paint brushes in my possession (my personal favorite is an ungodly long one covered in zebra-print, mostly because of its WTF-value), which means I can start painting semi-decently again!
I've started work on Pyro, and he's mostly done, barring his left arm (which still refuses to stay attached to him); I'll have a picture of him up soon.
Anyways, on the fluff side of things, I've been tinkering on an icon for the Remnants, I'm torn between the following options:
This version is more based on the Chaos star, with the arrows replaced with shards to represent the fragmented nature of the warband.
The other version uses the same elements, but is more circular than the other one.
I'll probably try to squeeze the icon unto the next members of the Remnants, so it becomes a unifying element throughout the entire warband.
So what do you guys think? Option 1 or option 2?

I'm kind of torn - it would be easier to decide if seeing it at a small scale (which one stands out more on a mini) rather than blown up.
At this size, I prefer the second... but I think at mini size, I'd prefer the first. I notice this all the time when lasercutting designs too - what looks good on-screen doesn't necessarily match what looks best at the actual size!
Even just shrinking down the images might help a bit in deciding, I think

I've put my Photoshop skills to use to give a better view of what it would look like:

Icon 2
The image isn't perfect, but I think it makes the difference between the two a bit clearer...
Looking at it this way, I'm leaning more towards the first option, what do you guys think?

Update!
And a decently-sized one, too!
Jokes aside, I found some more time to work on the Remnants, which resulted in a couple of Chosen getting glued and some tweaks to other models
After longingly staring at those Dark Vengeance models I decided that my Lords of the Remnants aren't looking quite evil and impressive enough to lead an actual warband, so I'm going to try and fix that by adding all sorts of bits and bobs wherever they seem reasonable.
The first 'victim' of this new method was the ever-lovable Lord Breacher, an ex-Iron Warrior and resident Warsmith of the Remnants.
Here's what he looked like prior to... 'modification':
And here he is now:
As you can see, I've added to tusks to the front of his armour, used a piece of plastic tube to make him a gorget, slapped a shield on his left hand (might rework that at some point) and added a daemonic head to his thunder hammer.
I personally like him a lot this way, although I'm still debating whether I'm going to replace the little shield on his chest or not.
Next up are a couple of Chosen:
This one is currently one of my favourites, as he was the main source of inspiration for Kusun Zhaqar, the Black Legionnaire who will be hunting the Remnants during the second Crusade of Fury (do check the thread in the Fiction department, it's really cool). For some reason, I've given him the nickname Hangman, despite the fact that he carries a massive axe around (but let's be real here, Axe-man would just sound silly)
Next up is Gladiator, whose head I decided to turn to face the other way, so he has more of a blocking-things-with-my-shield-pose
And here's a regular Berzerker, whose pose mostly came from the use of one of the Raptors' chainswords.
I've also reworked Dezmon, the champion of Khorne, giving him a different set of weapons than last time:
The Fantasy Chaos Warrior mace was just too awesome to not use, although I'm not entirely convinced by the pose just yet...
In other news, I've also slapped some more bits together, which led to the creation of an autocannon-wielding Havoc and a small objective marker:
The weapon was taken from the Chaos Terminator sprue, it doesn't look too shabby but the joint where the regular CSM arm attaches to the Terminator arm is still a bit too obvious.
And here's the objective marker, an Imperial supply drop someone forgot to collect
That's all I have for now, hope you enjoyed, and as always, comments and critiques are more than welcome
