Blood Pact renegades would be cool, but I have no idea how to model them properly... but if I get my hands on some spare IG models, I'll certainly give it a try
As for the Blood Gorgons, they certainly sound interesting, especially the blood-bonding ritual; maybe I'll include two of them in the warband at some point
Now, I've been working on several things for The Remnants, like this little Zombie for example:
Had a lot of fun painting this one, Agrax Earthshade worked wonders here I also tried adding some bruises by splashing some Drucchi Violet here and there, I think it works well enough
I've also painted another Alpha Legion Operative, this one's called "Scarecrow":
Painted him up for the Monthly Painting Competition, I went for the inverted version of Bolt's scheme, which looks pretty spiffy in my opinion
Here's a couple pics with his buddy Bolt and a piece of cover I also painted for the competition:
I've also tweaked operative "Chef" a bit, I swapped his chainsword-wielding arm for one that's more... 'appropriate' for a comms officer:
You want us to do what now?
On the Heavy Support side of things, I semi-finished the mock-up of my first Obliterator:
Getting that shoulder pad to fit over the Terminator arm was a slightly maddening endeavor, but it submitted to the Dark Powers in the end (threatening to file it to death made it reconsider its protests) I'll have to do some more work to get those spikes on top of his armour to fit better, but that will be for later
And finally, I've started my attempt at scratchbuilding a Rhino, which is going better as expected:
I'm having some trouble with the other set of wheels though, as I need to recreate that part completely from scratch; and I have no properly sized wheels for the tracks
That's all I have for now, comments and suggestions are always welcome, and thanks for stopping by

Nice update, good call modifying "Chef". I always feel a bit sad when removing a weapon in the interest of realism, but you definitely made the right call as he is now really in character.
And good luck on that rhino then. It looks good so far but did you consider casting the missing side ? That might be the opportunity to experiment, although because of the size of it, it might require a heavy setup...

Yup, those Obliterators are resin; they're not that easy to work with I must say, it's a lot softer than regular plastic, which makes cutting them up a little bit too easy...
corpuschain wrote:Some of your conversions are fantastic and the colour scheme is ingenious!
Thank you!
I've found some more time to work on The Remnants, I've managed to paint another Marine for my first Tactical squad; a Khornate from the Eightscarred warband.
I have to say that painting Khornates is definitely not my favorite, they're all so bloody red that it barely matters what warband they belong to. As said, this one is from the 'Eightscarred' warband, which is unique by...painting their shoulder pads black. Honestly, the warbands from the Khorne Daemonkin book all seem to have this problem, which is rather disappointing. I mean, where are those Khorne warbands with flame motifs, or tribal markings or ones with the original World Eaters colour scheme that's just covered in so much blood you can barely see the white underneath? Missed opportunities, in my opinion...
Regardless, with this guy painted, I officially have a Marine for each aspect of Chaos! (except for Malal, but we'll get to that someday). Here's a pic of the lot:
Anyways, I've also been playing around with the Berzerkers kit some more, I've tried to add some more variety by swapping the chainswords and -axes for some more conventional weapons like spears and swords:
Apologies for the crappy pics by the way, my camera refuses to cooperate.
I have a bit of a problem though: the Berzerkers were re-packaged a while ago and they now come with 32mm bases, which makes them a bit bigger than my regular marines. I'm not sure how I could fix this, as I don't have enough regular bases left to put them on (and they look rather cool on the new ones, I must admit). One option would be to run them as Chosen, serving as the retinue to my HQ guys or something like that...
Oh, and in case any of you are interested, I've bundled a couple of my short stories together in one thread in the Dakka Fiction department, which you can find here :

Liking the look of the new berzerkers - variety is the spice of death, and in the 41st millenium I'm sure you'd get pretty tired of the rev of a chainsword after a while. As for the bases, you could always run them as chosen or perhaps possessed. I had this problem with my blood angels, now I have a tactical squad and a sternguard squad with the new bases and everyone else looks so small! But it generally works if you're playing them as a special-ish unit. Chosen would be best, also loving your remnants, the cultist operatives and that little zombie guy!

Update time!
I've been working some more on the Remnants, thinking of which colour schemes to use in the future and I even managed to paint some models!
First up is another regular Marine from the first squad, a Word Bearer nicknamed "The Beast" by his companions...
The Beast. The Blood-Handed Fiend. The Devil of Impervia III. The Word Bearer identified as Tel Asag has been given many names throughout his life. Once a regular Sergeant of the XVII Legion, Tel Asag gained the favor of the Gods during the Battle of Calth, where he was transformed into a daemonic predator. Armed with twin Power Fists, both mutated extensively and radiating dark energies, Tel Asag hunts down his prey without remorse or restraint. Few dare ask if his facial features are covered by an ornate, daemon-like helmet; or if the daemonic mask is actually his face...
Another Word Bearer this time; I originally was going to make him part of The Sanctified, but their colour scheme seemed rather uninspired, and I didn't feel like painting all that red without knowing if it'd actually look good. So I stuck to the Word Bearers' scheme, which is definitely starting to grow on me, mostly because it's absolutely dead-simple
I also painted another Plague Zombie, this one's got himself a nice weapon:
I used the same techniques as last time, giving him some bruises by splasing Drucchi Violet here and there. Works pretty well, in my opinion
I also based him and the others with the usual recipe, only adding a bit of blood to the Zombies' bases, as they actually have enough room on their bases left for such details
Here's a group shot of the new guys, with some older dudes in the back:
So, what's next? Well, I've got two more Marines to go before my first Tactical Squad is done, so those two are definitely on the top of the list; other than that, I'm thinking of painting the three remaining zombies in one sitting, as they're really easy to paint
I've also been digging for interesting colour schemes, here are a few that piqued my interest:
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Brotherhood_of_Darkness
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Claws_of_Lorek
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Company_of_Misery
Flames! All the flames!
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Dragon_Warriors
If only I knew how to paint scales...

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Knights_of_Blood_(Warband)
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Punishers
Skeletons FTW
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/The_Scourged
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Steel_Brethren
One of the Marines from the first squad will be of these guys, I think
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Sons_of_Vengeance
I really like this scheme, looks pretty fun to paint too
So that's a few Chapters I'm thinking of at the moment, suggestions are always welcome though; if any of you would like me 'adopt' a marine from your personal Chaos warband, I'd be happy to oblige

Thanks guys!
I forgot to add these two pics to my update, first one is the 'flamer guy' I built in the beginning in a bit of new gear. I was struggling to model this guy, as most of his body was already glued together, but I think I've found a good pose now:
One personal little convention I'm going to follow throughout the warband is the use of this guy's helmet for vehicle crew and more techy guys. This Marine is going to be a combat engineer, repairing the warband's vehicles when needed on the battlefield.
Colour scheme-wise, I'm thinking of painting him as a Steel Brethren (with some added contrast though, I don't think I can make the metal look good enough to have it cover 90% of a marine) marine or an Iron Warriors one.
Thoughts?
The other pic is an image I photoshopped, depicting a battle between the Remnants and unknown assailants.
Any advice on how to improve the image some more?
KernelTerror wrote:Wow, the Beat is brutal man. I can totally see him charging almost running on four limbs !
Thanks! The idea of a Marine running around on all fours is pretty cool actually, maybe I could try modelling a Possessed marine like that, if I ever get my hands on some more models!
Matthew wrote:Oh man just got an image of Abaddon petting the beast, with him having his tongue out, sitting like a dog...
Well that's... mildly concerning. Rather humorous though, got to give you that
Imagine someone modelling Abaddon sitting on a throne, petting a Possessed Marine as you described.... now that would be interesting

Liking the Beast!
As for other colour schemes, Hakanor's Reavers is surprisingly easy to do - you just paint red cracks on black armour and then build up to orange/yellow.
The Cleaved is another interesting one, very easy to do and looks good at the end of it. Here's an idea - why not a mutated Soul Drinker? Just a thought.

Update time!
I've done something rather out-of-character and actually got some work done! Huzzah!
Which means I am now in the possession of one finished Zombie squad! I had a lot of fun painting these guys, maybe I'll build some more of them with the bits I have left later (like I don't have enough things to paint already )
Here's some pictures of the decaying lot:
Some suspect this particular zombie, who appears to be a former agri-worker, to take command of his diseased brethren whenever their masters are absent, guiding his flock towards suitable prey, much like the sheep he used to herd before his resurrection at the hands of the Death Guard who besieged his homeworld.
That hole in his head's gotta hurt...
Hannibal Solo, former mercenary in service of several shady individuals, and now servant to the Ruinous Powers, is a curious subject. While most Zombies' identities are obliterated by the nefarious aftereffects of their forced resurrection, Solo has seemingly retained enough of his former intelligence to wield his trusty sidearm with the same deadly precision as he had in life, which makes him a bigger threat than most of his more feral brethren.
And here's a shot of all the zombies together:
Now you may or may not notice that the last three Zombies' heads aren't actually GW ones, they're from a pile of skulls from Zealot Miniatures (who have some awesome stuff by the way). As I didn't have any other GW zombie heads, I figured they'd work just as well with the right paintjob; which they thankfully did
I did have to dremel the skulls a bit to make them fit the zombie bodies though (which also explains how one zombie ended up with some rather morbid base detail), but after that it was just a question of getting them glued on properly.
Painting-wise, I tried to tie the squad together by using the same colours (blue and brown, mostly) throughout the lot, and by splashing some Blood for the Blood God down on their bases as well.
I've also finished painting another Marine of the first Tactical squad, namely one from the Steel Brethren warband:
Grim and aloof, this marine is a man of few words. Hailing from the Steel Brethren, a splinter group of the Iron Warriors Legion, he is an expert in repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment, which makes him a useful asset for the Remnants. Assigned to front-line duty alongside the The Reclaimed, he serves as a combat engineer, analysing hostile armour elements and occupied structures and relaying tactical information to the heavy support units.
Writing this down, I realise I really should have given his a shotgun of some kind; I might have a holstered one lying around somewhere...
Anyways, painting this one was a bit more difficult, as it required me to figure out the Steel Brethren's colour scheme on the fly. I have to admit that pure-metal marines aren't really my cup of tea, as they lack a bit of contrast in my opinion. It was a toss-up between this scheme and the Iron Warriors' one, and I decided that obscure warbands deserve some love too in the end
Here's a shot of The Reclaimed as of now:
Now I've only got the Black Legionnaire left, and then I've got my first squad finished
Moving on to newer arrivals, I've also been slapping some more Berzerker bits together, which led to these two fellas:
Brutal.
I had no idea what to do with that zombie body with the rope around its neck, until I found a Chaos biker arm, and well, this happened. Trophies for Khorne!
This dude has a bit of a gladiator vibe going for him, which I think is pretty neat.
That's about it for now, hopefully I'll be able to show you the Black Legionnaire next update
As always, comments and critiques are always welcome, and thanks for stopping by

Very nice zombies, that brown color scheme made me think of the triumph of death by Bruegel; which is silly thinking of it, as the painting's skeletons are white. But Death's zombie mount fits the scheme. Anyway, if you were to do a mounted leader with a scythe I would not complain ^^ !
Nice call on the gladiator dude, always nice to see miniature emphasize the noble martial aspect of Khorne !

Thank you! That painting is absolutely awesome, and comedy gold in my opinion; zooming in on all the silly faces is an absolute joy
In all seriousness, that painting could actually serve as an inspiration for the VC skeleton army I've been thinking of starting ( AOS got me interested in Fantasy you see), so you might see a mounted skeleton with a scythe popping up somewhere in the future

Ah, Brueghel, truly a master of the fine arts
Now as hilarious as this is, I think we're going to have to dial it back a bit with the not-wargaming-related jokes, we wouldn't want a moderator to lock this thread for going off-topic now would we?
Speaking of wargaming-related things, I'm thinking of buying something a bit more expensive, along the lines of vehicles or other armoured support (big monsters would be cool too, though); currently I'm thinking of the following:
- An Onager Dunecrawler (I LOVE this model, it's really awesome; but I have no real use for it aside from it being a cool thing to have)
- A Maulerfiend/Forgefiend (useful for the Chaos army, but I'm not really sold on the model)
- A Daemon Prince (looks like a fun kit, but I'm not the biggest fan of daemons)
- Chaos Knights or Chaos Bikers (to use as Chaos Bikers, duh; it's just that the Chaos Knights seem to have a bunch of fun bits)
- A unit of Grave Guard (as a start of my AOS army, although I'm not feeling up to that at the moment)
So I'm a bit stuck. Suggestions?

With regards the mismatched bases, couldn't you pick up some 20mm bases off the internet? Regular bases are pretty cheap, and you could then mount models on the bases you want, rather than on the onest you were given!

Yeah, a tad bit too animal like for my taste too, but at least one guy on dakka did some brilliant stuff with that kit. Now I can't remember who, and what he actually did. Useless input on my behalf ^^. I'll try to find where though... Automatically Appended Next Post: Not the one I remembered, but I think it looks brilliant too. Apparently you can assemble that kit in a pretty tough looking bipedal way.

That option has crossed my mind as well, but I have to say that these larger bases are growing on me... thing is, I have a lot of 20mm slotta bases, but I have no idea how to fill the slot in a good way, and it seems like a waste to not use them for something
Anyways, I headed down to the FLGS store today, determined to buy one of the things I've listed above, only to find that I managed to get there on the ONLY day in the week the store is actually closed for business
Fortunately, the Year Market was in town (so unfortunately really, it was super crowded), so I had the opportunity to look for interesting stuffs while I was there. Now while strolling around, my eyes fell on this Mega Bloks dragon-thing, which reminded me an awful lot of a Maulerfiend....
Tell me I'm not the only one seeing the resemblance here.
Now that put my mind into conversion-mode, which means I'm seriously considering turning this thing into an actual Maulerfiend.
However, I have two issues:
- This thing's supposed to be an action figure, which means it has rather visible joints which can also rotate around, which is awesome (dynamic posing, here I come!), but I have no idea how to hide that convincingly
- This thing's hand are super derpy, I mean, what the heck is up with that, seriously
So yeah. Here's a few more pics of the beast:
A scale comparison with some GW dudes
It's got motherfething wings!
So, what do you guys think? Anyone got any advice on how to turn this into an awesome (maybe flying) Maulerfiend?
Oh, by the way, I started writing down some short guides on how to do the colour schemes I've been painting here, so if you want to learn how to paint some of the warbands like I've done them, have a look at this thread:

Hope it helps other worshippers of the True Pantheon with painting their armies!

That is most definitely a maulerfiend. Strip him down and GS/convert him up!
