That's along the lines of what I was thinking Grim. Some, unnamed, part of the Tyranid invasion that consumes biomatter, or even a different take on a digestion pool. I ty not to think to hard about it, other than I wanted something functional as tabletop terrain that was cool and alien looking.

After resurrecting that Stompa last week, I wondered if I could dust off other old projects and get them at least presentable enough for a tabletop.

I'm not winning and Golden Daemons for that, unfinished, paintjob, but come on that's not bad for a scatch built model. He's been sitting on my desk for almost a year waiting for me to finish scultping him.

Added paint to the eyes, teeth, horns, and open wounds as well as a drybrushed highlight of light green over the skin.

Slow vote, but I'm in the pics and notes camp rather than vids.

Really digging that maw-hill, it'll make a great piece of scenery.

Cool deamon prince, everyone loves a bit of Nurgle scratch build.

Thanks EDC.

Yeah, it looks like I was the only one who thought the video was a good idea.

I'm on vacation this week, and amongst the million things around the house I should be doing, I'm going to try and jam as much miniatures related activity in as I can.

Aside from playing with big green, I painted the Maw Hill, thanks for naming that BTW, assembled twenty bases of Ripper Swarms, base coated a Grick Alpha, some Tyranocytes and Sporocysts. Working on getting as many models as possible to a simple tabletop standard by the end of vacation.

Sounds like an enjoyable mad rush towards progress

I don't think the video was a bad idea... but look who you're asking. Most of your audience is probably here on Dakka (and here in specific) because we like seeing pictures and reading the text. If we were interested in chains of video we'd probably be gobbling up youtube feeds of modelers.

I like both, but time/situational constraints mean pictures and write ups are what I can usually manage to consume more readily. You may find a lot of hits with a youtube channel because just as many people in the hobby community that prefer videos would watch yours the same as we keep coming by to read about the awesome

Project of the Day

The other day I stumbled across Cleatus' P&M blog, and something caught my eye.

Ork Monorail Bikes, by Cleatus

He used yogurt cups lids to make his, and I made a mental note to buy yogurt.

While sorting though my modelling supplies I found a bag of denture cup lids, that are roughly the same size as yogurt cup lids....

I'm honored! You have improved on my design too, nice work. I really like the scratch built guns on the sides.
After I posted my build, one of the comments/suggestions was to add some spikes or teeth to the wheel, to give it a little more "grip". I think it's a good idea. You might consider adding those before you start painting.
Very nice, keep up the good work!

Thanks Guys !!

The hull and the monowheel are pretty much the same shape and design. The ventral blade was a new addition to the design. It gives it a stronger point to join the hull to the wheel. The track is a solid band around the two wheel halves. It serves to improve the structural integrity. The treads were easier to attach to the tracks, as strips, this way as well.

Cleatus' Monowheel bikes capture the orky design asthetic better, but I'm still happy with the way it turned out.

Still need to add an Ork rider, rivets, and studs

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I was thinking about what you said about spikes on the wheels, and how the new Ork vehicles have the metal plated bolted to the tires

Ventral blade is a nice addition, and the band around the wheel too. Structural integrity is important. (Even if Ork vehicles look like they will fall apart in a stiff breeze ) Nice work, sir. Yes, rivets. So many rivets.

Oh yeah, I like the spikes. They give the model a little more character.

Darnit, you're making me desire to make more bikes. I had always intended to do so, but you know how it is... so many projects.

Do it. Do it.

I know what you mean. This past week, built a Mawloc, painted 21 bases of Ripper Swarms, added details to the monowheel, and painted a Hill Giant, all in addition to what was posted to this blog.

Got stuck working a double, so no new pictures tonight.

Was hoping to spray paint a base coat on today, but the rain is making that a no go.

It's hard to see, but the biggest addition is ton of rivets.

A Farther's Day treat for myself

The detail is easier to see with some paint on the aegis defense line bits

Built the body and wheel for a second bike. Same general design, but I'm trying to make sure the bling comes out differently.

Later this week I'm expecting the models from Deathwatch. So some more Marines and a proper Genestealer cult for my collection. Along with that I'm also getting the Munitorum Storage Containers that just came out. Already planning on scratch building some Ork and Tyranid themed Storage Containers, once I can get some measurements.

I received my Deathwatch:Overkill and Munitorum Armored Containters in the mail today !!

So naturally I scratch built one instead of assembling the one I just bought.

Bwahahahahahahaha . Almost as bad as buying the cat a toy and if plays in the box . I did this too with my deadzone terrain . Bought a crapload and immediately started collecting and refurbishing junk.

Spent 90 minutes with tech support to get my phone working properly.
An hour later realise that whatver they did to get my phone working Knocked out my internet.
Spend 30 minutes trying to re-activate my internet service.
Call tech support again, after 15 mintues she resets my modem, while I'm talking to her on a phone connected to said modem.
Sit frusterated waiting for her to call back while my wife and kids hound me about phone and internet.
After about 15 minutes, I give up on her calling back and call tech support again.
Get a different technician who spends about 60 minutes to fix my internet connection.

Decide the only way not to murder someone at this point is to clear my head.
Head outside to base coat the models I've been working on. Get half way through base coating Mawloc and can runs out of paint.
Move on to black, start base coating armored container only to discover that even though it has a black cap it's white paint.
Go back and paint Mawloc. A few minutes of searching and I find another can of Black paint. Paint the entire amored container, but run out of Black paint half way through painting monowheel bikes. Clean up, go inside, wash up, change my clothes, tell my wife I'm going out to get paint. Then the phone rings, it's for me.
It's Traci, the Technician that reset the modem while I was talking to her like an hour and half before, finally calling back.....

I pray to the God Emperor, and my Primarch Sanguinis, not to let the Black Rage overcome me. I manage to bite down any bile and inform her that the situation has been resolved and her services are no longer required.

By time I get back from the store with my paint it's dark out.

The angle makes the scale look worse than it is. The Armored Container is 4 1/2" long by 2 1/4" tall, while my Ork Container, I made is 2 1/4" tall by 6" long. In my defense I started making the Ork one without taking any measurements on the official model

ouch...the worst part of that day is the fail in having enough paint in my view... internet and phone service is abyssal all over the world... i smell there is time for tin foil hats...

but luckily you used the time and come up with a way better container than GW did...honestly...why has a container in 40k be gothic chic?...it´s an time to be used and not looked at...i doubt that in over 40 thousand years peeps will ship their goods in art deco containers...instead of in lumps of badly manhandled metal...

I firmly believe this is why most companies move their phone "service" lines out of the country. It has less to do with cheap labor and more to do with customers not doing icing across town to beat their employees senseless.

The tier 1 representative was clearly an indian woman.
The tier 2 techinician was American with a midwestern accent.
The tier 2 Web specialist was an American with a deep southern accent.

I honestly had an easier time understanding the woman with the Indian accent than the woman from the deep south.

Hobby related: I had spray paint fest !! Base coated my monowheel bikes, amored munitorum containter, ork armored container, Ork Stompa, Void Shield generator, and Mawloc.

I've negotiated an army deal that will increase my Tyranid swarm by 3 Hive Tyrants, 3 Zoanthropes, 1 Malonthrope, 3 Tervigons, and 9 Mucloids. Added to what I already have my Tyranids will have quite a few competitive choices available to them.

I used to negotiate deals for bulk discounts and order for me and 2-3 other people at a time, and try to buy my whole army at once.
We once ordered an entire space marine company, and that was just for one guy. I've calmed down since then. My Tyranid army was mostly a 2e/3e/4e force, so it lacked any of the new cool newer models.

My LGS purchase are impulse buys. Usually I'll wait, find a discount, and order in bulk.

Back in the day when GW sold bitz and had cool GW Mail Order trollz those guys used to know me by name and offer me sweet deals. I used to even get the test casts for new models, months before they were released, until I mentioned it at my LGS, at the time, and the store owner cut my throat and made a standing order with GW to get those test casts. Can't say that I miss that guy. Well I mean I could, but I'd be lying.

I bought up all the Necromunda Goliath Gang and Digganob box sets inventory, that were returned to from the GW stores, at a discount. Literally missed buying 100 sprues of RT era plastic marines by mere seconds, so I bought the 100 RT era Marine upgrade sprues to spite the guy who bought the marines. Scored something like 50 sprues of RT era plastic scouts.

The money other people spend on drugs, alchohol, sports cars, strippers, etc.. I've spent on miniatures for the last 20 years.

Huh cool stuff. Never ad a good local game store so its always interesting hearing from people who had that experience.

I feel the same way about mins/vices. Aside from potential glue and chemical inhalation, probably a much safer pastime than a lot of things.

Not where I should be

Well sounds like you had a day in hell. But you survived. And didn't kill anyone! All good then.

Containers looking brilliant. Seems everyone is knocking them out lately. Have had a look at GW ones and don't get it. Why the gothic, and why would you stick guns on them. I could understand a sand bag nest maybe. But not a built in gun. Yours look good. I did have an idea floating about in my head that SM would use rhino shaped containers, as there transport equipment would be rigged to carry that shape. You know that big flyer that carries rhinos' about. And they might have rhino shaped pods instead of portacabins as mobile bases. A rhino shape but without engines and tracks. Same width. Armoured for the battlefield and they stack pretty well. Bloody silly idea really I guess.

The 40K designers just can't resist making things grimdark and covered in skulls. It's not a civilian container, so I get the guns though.

Rhino shaped cargo containers are a fun idea. They could serve as decoys. It's not like the Rhino shape would be any worse than an octagonal tube. You can't store anything up against the walls, without strapping it to them. It's wasted space compared to conventional rectangular shaped containers.

In any case, they look cool, and it gives me something to toy with. I do like the game stats.

very good looking container, how does the octagonal shape hold its...shape... do you use a core of something to support the shape?
