I used to like these guys, even if 1/2 of them were useless, I mean a vindicare (sp?) and a celexus (sp?) never made up their points or did anything of much major use...  The Callidus and Eversor (ok I forgot how to spell them, cause I heven't seen them in so long) were actually usable haha.  So, why, oh why do I need to take an allied Inquisitor to count as an HQ just to take a model I like and want to use (I don't mean fluff wise, where you tell me the Inqusition tells the assassins to go do crap).  If they keep a rule about needing an inquisitor to take an assassin I may have to build a DH or WH army, although, I'm not crazy about DH (pure DH are on par with orks, and if you take SM/IG allies I might as well play SM or IG) and I don't have all the $$ to blow on sisters (WH are nice, decent rules, good troops .SOB., but all cost so much per squad ::cries: ...

Does anyone else share my opinions?

Proposed Rule: Assassins may be taken as an elite coice in IG, SM, DH, WH; REGARDLESS if an idiot inquisitor is wandering around somewhere on your side.

For the record, the "idiot Inquisitor" cost is only about twenty points - although it is sort of rough to lose an elites choice, using two allied contingents and the loophole that does not specify the KIND of Inquisitor needed to take an Assasin, you can get your Eversor or Callidus from, say, the WH codex and buy a DH =I= equipped with a folding chair and perhaps an Emperor's Tarot.

When soldiers think, it's called routing.

To the best of my understanding, you can only take one allied elite choice, so in order to take an assassin (Elite), you MUST take the Inquisitor (HQ), which means more of a point sink than just 20 (or whatever the elite one costs), plus you eat a HQ slot, which isn't worth it, making it useless for a SM or an IG army to take an assassin.

The Bell of Lost Souls blog is working through tactica on each of the assassin houses. So far Culexus and Vindicare have been covered, and I think the tactica are quite good and made me want to get the ol' boys in black out again. Also, The Bell crew have a talent for finding dirty dirty tricks ...

I heartily suggest checking it out

Interesting ideas, but they need to update with the other 2 assassins haha, they seem to have the most practical use....

Blank, you are allowed one elite choice from the witchhunter codex, AND one elite from the deamon hunter codex. So, if you have an elite inquisitor from the deamon hunter codex you can also have an elite assassin from the witchhunter codex.

Assassins suck. Period.

They need to become Independant Characters again. As Independant Units they are hopeless.

I disagree.  The way I understand it, you need a DH inq (HQ) to get a DH assassin (Elites) or a WH inq (HQ) to get a WH assassin (Elites).  Those 2 assassins may have identical names and rules, but they still come from different codeces and require an inq from their own codex be taken.  Perhaps I'm wrong, but I've seen what you suggested being argued before, fairly unconvincingly ...

Mi.

Boss you are right. No ones going to let them take it that way. But use the hq choice. He so friggin nasty its not even funny.

I like all the assassins except the vindicare hes worthless. I use the culexus all the time against bugs and eldar. Just last week i killed nearly tripple the points of her cost useing the callidus (more like 5x her cost actually). So they are well worth it you just need to know how to utilize them.

Who ever takes 2 hq choices anywhay? now thats a waste of points.

Independant character or unit??? who cares it makes NO differance. Why do you say that?

Thing is, I would most hate to face a vindicare with my Chaos army. Sniping out my hugely killy, expensive AC before they hit combat and become untargetible fist-swingers? Yikes.

For some armies they work better then for others. In my IG I took an Inquistior anyway for the psychic hood, psycannon and hvy bolter servitors. So adding a Vindicare now and then was fun. Thousand Sons and Tau really hate them, espcially when they had their old "Deathworld Toxins" upgrade that let you reroll to wound.

But my IG was hardly an optimal army. I tended to take things that I liked over a min/max list, but my local players are a bit more relaxed for the most part. In serious games I tended to drop both the INQ lord and the Assasin for as many auto cannons as possible.

It makes all the difference.

Assassins are not IC's. This means anyone can target them - just need to pass a priority check.

Isn't that true of ICs now anyways? If you can see it, regardless of intervening units, you can shoot it (passing a priority check, naturally)? Or are you assuming that they would be able to join up with units? Either way, I think that a 95 point eversor is a good deal in a guard army, especially when I take an HQ inquisitor for hood/tarot/plasma nastiness.
cheers

No, you can not target an independent character unless he is the closest model or a monsterous creature. That is why I liked the Vindicare. With his uber long range he could take out almost anything and NEVER have to worry about being shot himself.

Heck, I occassionally still take one to take out an HQ or aspiring champion. Even if he doesn't make back his points it is usually still worth it.

Except that ever since the DH Codex was printed, he ceased being an IC, so now you can pick him out (Steath Suit notwithstanding).
