Thanks guys. Knightley there has been fluff progress just not enough to post. Moonpie I hope your cannons survived the first turn. Gitsplitta it's good to be back.

Now that my new born is sleeping better there should be more opportunities to get things accomplished.

Moonpie, I hope you can get some things done before you get more new stuff.

Look forward to the update.. seems like the standing armies never get ahead. There is always more to do. This is why I jump around so not to be depressed by the task.

Are you planning on painting that as a Blood Angels banner or Ice Angeling it up? For my two cents, I think it would be cool if it was a relic banner from the original Chapter, so you could have it all red or whatever. I see the blood drops are red. I like that.

I think the rule of cool applies to the Sergeant as he does look pretty darn cool!

Some serious CC attitude on your Sergeant. I like the different color purity seals.

I think the banner is almost completed as is actually. I like the idea of it being an ancient Blood Angel banner, perhaps from some obscure company like the 186th or something. I wanted to do a sort of gray scale with it, the only color being the blood droplets. It will be carried by one of my sanguinary guard and they already have a very limited color palette. If I went to crazy with the banner I didn't think it would match the attire of the unit.

Solar_lion wrote:Some serious CC attitude on your Sergeant. I like the different color purity seals.

I am glad you like him Solar. He became a sergeant after spending decades in one of the Ice Angel veteran squads, each squad has picked its own color and symbol, such as the Uttuakki

or the Ashurbani

His unit is yet to be named but they were the "green" squad, as you can see.

I made a little painting progress today. The sergeant got the first coat of white on his chainfist and I started working on his base.

I made a little more progress on him recently. I need to do his eyes, finish his pistol, figure out how to paint the bullet dangling from his pistol hand. Other then that we're almost done.

That detachment is great and all but a lot of points just to get a charge from deep strike. I need two more ravens just to pull it off. I certainly have more then enough tactical marines. Wouldn't that be over 1000 points just to get the three tac squads and ravens? You fill out the rest of your points with a normal detachment right? So you'd have two cheap scout squads, an HQ, and then whatever you want to pull off that charge with one of which would have to be an elite choice. In a typical 1500 or even 2000 point game that seems a bit restrictive. Now if we start talking more then 2k things would start to get a bit more exciting in my opinion.

Now, I should probably add in to this that I actually haven't read the detachment myself this is just from what I've gathered from the webs. Once I see it, I'll let you know how I feel for reals.

HAve you gotten through the BA book yet. Thoughts? I thought they made them compatable with all the other recent Codex's. Very bland. In my one game using them they did make for a good game of Marine Vs. Marine. Against other races. I have my doubts.

I have ordered the Codex but it hasn't arrived yet. I'll let you know as soon as i get some games in. I've been reading add much as i can online but it's not nearly the same as having it in your own hands and making your own decisions. I am a bit bummed about losing my assault troopers as a troop choice but i do like some of the new stuff. I may be bringing the death company a bit more that's for sure.

Did you bring the death company in your game?

Chainfists on power armoured marines. This is a fantastic idea of which I wholeheartedly approve.

No I only have 5 DC marines .. I'll need more to pull off a good DC unit. They are a bit expensive to kit out with CC weapons so I'll have to do some playtesting to see what works. Luckly I play against marine players so it will be a good even test.

I think the most avantage for using the BA codex lies in the new formations. Sadly this seems the new path of GW.

I await your thoughts.

MORE WIP! This time here is some of the guard that is carrying the banner. He still needs some wings and some back pack love but he is coming along. I took some pics of the completed sergeant too but they didn't turn out very well. I don't have great lighting on my desk.

@sockwithaticket - I agree completely! That is why there is another one sitting on my desk. I don't know why but I have a whole assortment of weird armed marines in front of me. Oh well.
@Solar_lion - Only 5 death company? Preposterous! How can a LAMENTER player such as yourself not have a whole hoard of death company? I know my Ice Angels have more then enough. Please let me know how your future battles turn out. I'd love to compare notes.

I don't really understand why people are so down on the whole formation thing. I think its cool and not a new path in the least. Did any of you play EPIC or Space Marine or Titan legion? In that game your entire army was built from little white card board cards, each one would have a titan on it or a detachment, or an assortment of figures not unlike the formations they are now creating. I find it incredibly amusing that so many people dislike this "new" direction yet its really just a revisit to a previous idea. If anything GW is going back to the good old days. How many old models have they recreated? Knights, contemptors, robots, haruspex, harridan, exocrine, the list is extensive and impressive. No other gaming system has this kind of depth that it can revisit old stuff decades later. The more I type about it the more I realize how awesome it is. How many gaming systems are out there that have the "winning" meta crutch that everyone plays?

Magic tries to counter act it by dropping the ban hammer on cards that dominate the game. Or create cards specifically to disrupt the winning combo. I feel like GW just laughed at the thought and decided to flood the system with so many rules and models and combos that it is impossible to have that meta power house or truly fathom what all is out there. Personally, back in 5th edition or older I could cite the rules for nearly any model or weapon in the entire game. Now I can hardly keep track of what my own is capable off let alone the hordes of other things.

Enough of that talk though, we all have our opinions. For me I play the game for the memorable moments and the hobbying side of things. Winning or loosing really isn't relevant. *unless I'm playing moonpie, then his space puppies must be DESTROYED*

I just noticed that my banner is missing its topper. Hmmmmm, I wonder where that went. TO THE BITZ BOX!

The banner is looking stellar Ice. Love the varied intensity reflection... very appropriate for silk (or whatever they're using for banners in the 41st millennium).

I just find the whole formation thing very confusing... needlessly in my mind. I'm not saying it's bad... I just never know what the hell is going on and it pretty much guarantees my opponent is going to out-build me because there's no way I can understand what I can get... much less what they've got.

Stellar banner my friend!

Formations seem to be the new way to get your fluff on.. Instead of including ' chapter tactics' like rules for races or Chapters they roll out formation that allow you to use those rules only if you take x, y, and z.

I get the plug and play aspect of the formations but unless your playing a large game ( 2000+ pts) your limiting your choices or more importantly having your choices made for you in order to take what I consider a ' chapter tactic'.

Some will say.. ' Play Unbound' but then you don't get the special rules. I'd rather see a more open style of play as well as more unique and meaningful specific race or chapter tactic than plug and play formations prizes.

Add the fact that the new campaigns series ( SW and now the BA ) includes formations not accessible in the normal codex, forcing you to purchase the book or supplement. If you play against a variety of armies you would be hard pressed to stay up to date on all your opponents formation ( or in the case of the Nids – New models not in the main codex) . However; a great business model. Tie that Box set with only 1 or 2 new models and your not spending much to produce it. = nice profit.

2 cents.

I went back and went through my P&M blog. I built a lot of things this year but didn't get to do nearly as much painting as I would have had liked. Other then my Adepticon Army, I only painted up one sanguinary guard marine, five terminators, and a random assortment of Ice Angel tactical / assault marines. I did make a display board this year and after Adepticon repainted the whole thing. That was nice.

I think my goal in 2015 is going to get more paint on my models. I have the two dozen marines on my desk and a horde of green skins to paint. Let's see how many of those I can get through this year.

I hope all of you had a wonderful New Years Eve. I had a great one playing King of Tokyo with some friends. Good luck with all of your resolutions everybody.

As much as I like painting orks Solar, I think my quest to get some Ice Angels completed is a much more dominant feeling at this time. I did complete that chain fist sergeant. Pics will be soon. I'm trying to get that banner wielding guard done today too. Then It looks like I have an assault marine next up in line.

I have also been reading through the blood angel codex. I think overall I like it. I was a bit surprised that there really wasn't anything new in it but with the new release schedules they could drop a new blood angel thing at any time which I'm cool with. Solar, I'll try to give you a more detailed synopsis of the codex when I get a game in.

By the way, I think I'll be able to make it up for Adepticon. This time I'm bringing the Ice Angels. It is about time they see their own MOAB.

Okay, the Guard is done except the banner topper. The picture color is a bit off, no natural light at the moment

Here is the squad thus far.

Question: The axe wielding guy, (I love that axe btw) has a winged skull on the blades, should the wings be blue like everything else or red like the rest of the blade?

In between these guys I also hit up an assault marine and another sergeant. I took a picture of the assault marine but the pictures are really blurry. Not a good camera day apparently.

He still needs his base to be completed. Some washes and touch ups, but you get the idea with him. Nothing too dramatic.

Very nice Ice. As to the axe... kind of depends on how obvious you wanted it to be. I'd paint it a different color so it would stand out. Because I'm an idiot and would forget that axe was there once the game got going.

I'd do a red. but brighter at the blade and darken it towards the shaft. It'll stand out without looking like a becon or being given guff by fellow IA walking by the guy saying ' Hey, that's a nice Axe'

I really like your Guard's theme!
