Subject: Mostly Scratch Built Stuff on the Cheap (40K, D&D, KoW, Frostgrave) Orks and Tyranids
I know what you are thinking....With all these shiny new Chaos Marines, Eldar, Necrons, and Tyranids and Orks you were already working on now is the time to stat a completely new TAU army. Just so you know how much I care about your opinions on the matter I'm starting 2 Tau projects.
Project 1 - A completely vanilla Tau army. All GW models in a paint scheme that I'm literally copying out of the codex and instructional videos. The Black and White Scheme.
But Adam, there is like zero conversions in that army. What gives ?
Project 2 - A complete Tau army without any filthy Tau in it. The Tau were left alone for a few thousand years, due to warpstorms, and they went from stone age to space age. It's always bothered me a little that there wasn't a human colony that hasn't done the same. So I bought a gak ton of Iron Man Hulkbuster Armors that I intend on using as Crisis suits, and Tau compatible weapons from RedDogMinis.com.
Because of how popular Avengers are right now there are dozens on Hulkbuster toys in various scales available,
I could even use the human forces as Gue'vesa to bolster my Tau forces.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Here is a sampling of the Iron Man Hulkbusters I have collected with the intention to turn into Tau Suits
Mega Armored Nobz next to a Crisis suit.
Yeah, they were getting a bit big.
Some old Broadsides I picked up on Ebay
I might field them if I want Railgun support, but I'm really liking the new Broadside model with missles

More Hulkbusters are on the way, enough to make at least 10 Crisis Suits and 10 Broadsides. Also ordered 10 sets of Paulson Games Plasma and Meltas for the Crisis suits from RedDogMinis.com . Looking to equip the Broadsides with Missles/HYMP, but I don't want to spend more on the weapon bits than I did on models themselves, so I'm looking into scratch building alternatives. The big guy I figure I can use a Superiortiy Armor, or the occasional terrain piece.
I'd have ordered my official Tau models already but I had a bit of unexpected car repairs and the Deathwatch Release to contend with this week.
Also want to get my hands on a Farsight Enclave Codex supplement before I make an final decisions.
Spoiler:
Stuff I'm waiting on to arrive
This big guy is about 6inches tall and I'm planning on using him as a Riptide
I've got 10 more these coming in, and I'm planning on using them as Crisis suits
When these arrive I'll have 10 of this armor that I plan to use as Broadsides

Keeping on point with Tau, I decided to paint an Imperial Knight
This Knight is another recent aquisition. The original owner had painted it mostly blue and steel, with a little brass trim. I went with Red and lots of brass trim. Considering I layed down Red over Blue, Brass everywhere, black Washed the steel, and then lined all the details with Black ink while watching the Tick Pilot and the first episode of Stanger Things, I think it's not bad for the amount of time put into it.

I was thinking Mars colors when I started, but honestly I'm happy with the ambiguous nature of the finished job. Since I recently aquired a CSM army and 2 boxes of BaC, it probably won't hurt to have some models that could pass for both loyalist and renegade.
Speaking of the vile forces of Chaos, I aquired another collection, this time Chaos Daemons

You can never be too careful, when it comes to Hulkpocalyopse preparation.
I've always big been a big fan of Iron Man, and have been looking for a way to incorporate Iron Man miniatures into my games. After reading the fluff in the Tau codex, years ago, about how far they were able to progress technologically being left alone for a few thousand years, it's always bothered me slightly that 40K never has any Human worlds with advanced technology. When I saw the smaller Hulkbusters I thought they would make excellent Crisis Suit stand ins, and the idea for an all Human force, using the Tau Codex, was born.
The first 8 or so, I acquired cost me about $4 each, but in the last month I stumbled onto some bargains and acquired most of those models for under $2 each. The big guy cost me $15, and the 6" ones cost me $5 each.
The third Imperial Knight has been sitting on a shelf, unpainted and half assembled, for about a year. Painting the newly acquired Knight encouraged me to try an finish him as well.

Started playing Kill Team. First team I grabbed was 8 Screamers of Tzeentch. I had them built and painted, and I wasn't too concerned with how they would perform. I told everyone that, but once we started playing, no one believed me. Their high mobility, 2 wounds, and 3 attacks, made them superb at picking off single opponents.
Anyways, the Kill Team I wanted to field, I still had to build and paint.
Seem the new style of kill team is very expanded from single squads to small forces.

Nah, most kill teams are single squad, especially if they are wearing power armor. I just chose to leverage it to the extreme of army building and use quantity over quality.
After all these years of painting plastic and resin models, I forgot what a pain in the donkey it was to fill in slot-a-bases, when using metal models.
All the Grots and Orks have 4 layers of green, and a layer of bolt gun metal, on them. Their base gaps are filled, and I went the simple route, and just glued sand to the bases as texture. The buggies have two layers of Red, some bolt gun and black as needed.
I also painted up a concept figure for the Hulkbuster legion. My friends all liked it. DId take pictures of all this, but they came out blurry for some reason. Will try to correct that, and get updated pics up soon.

Years ago when I first was modelling, it was mostly metal. Before green stuff, or at least I knew about GS. I used to fill the slot with bluetak, thin coat of superglue, sprink with bi-carbonate of soda, and bobs your uncle. Cheap and effective. Of course now we spend more time on our bases than I would have spent painting the models back then.
Really love that tank buster. I am sold on that one.

Badass as usual! But my favorite is the one with his claw and Shooty bits out screaming "Come on Waagh Mothertrucker"

There was a point where I was editing out the backgrounds. Now I just use it so you don't see my keyboard and monitor in every pic. Still good to have the option I suppose.
I have an idea for an Ork fandex in the back of my mind, and it will need pictures..
Don't know about the red face, but I guess squad ID would not hurt. Making it your HQ it would mark him out I suppose.
Paint scheme I was using for reference has the commanders with red helmets. I wouldn't go full red head. Never go full red head.

That one definitely has Warlord potential.
I think I need 15 Meganobz for a Bully Boyz formation, so I'm only half done building meganobz.
Just need to reign in the scale creep or they'll work their way from dreadnaught size up to dreadknight.scale.
