So, basically the only viable 40k army I have right now is Lost and the Damned.  With the rumored advent of the new Chaos Codex (thanks for the three month window, GW!), I've been thinking about what's going to happen to this army that I put a great deal of time and effort into.  It seems that I'm going to have to kick out my obliterators (which are rumored to become heavy support) but may be able to add a dreadnought (whee, just what I always wanted).

I'm trying to figure out my options; I know that I can still use this army in friendly games, but playing the odd RTT would be fun too.  How are you other LatD players handling this?  Are you planning other armies?  Getting ready to adjust for the new codex?

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

I am waiting, hoping and praying.

I will continue to play it as the local 40k club / store is more than ok with the LatD rules and how they fit into 4th edition. It will however stop me from buying any more minis. I'll stick with what I have and wait. After putting a good deal of effort into them I would like to use them in tournaments.

Yeah. Iorek, I know how you feel. I also play LatD and was wondering the same with my army. Granted, I have not bought a GeeW model since last summer, but I have been sitting back, waiting to see if I give up on GeeW period.

I have put alot of time and effort on converting alot of my army (seeing how there was nothing for LatD until recently) and now, GeeW is going to "quitely" do away with my army.

Hey, GeeW! My money, my time. Your choice makes my army no longer usable. Bite me.

I think I'm going to start a charity for the terminally stupid. You can be our spokes person. -- H.B.M.C.

I am waiting on seeing. The cynic says the codex will make no mention of LATD and how it fits. I'd still use it in friendly games with the modification following allies (oblits as allied heavy support etc.). Tourneys are more difficult but could be usable if consult the organizer first.

I figure I have a few options, none of them entirely satisfying.
For friendly games, guys in my club will still probably be happy to play the LatD.
In more formal settings, I guess I'll go back to my CSM army (Word Bearers). Which will not be as fun to play.
To keep my modelling/fluff cravings fed, I'll work on converting my LatD list inito a (correupted) radical =I= list -- or play some wacky corrupted guard list (with psykers, arch-heretic "commissars," etc.). Won't be very effective tactically, but it will be fun to convert and write stories around. (Which is the main reason I started playing LatD anyway.)
Meanwhile I'll pray for GW to cook up something tournament legal that is either LatD or cultist.

And join the disgruntled old farts who whine and moan about GW in pre-lapsidarian days of yore.

I'm pretty blue about this, really. Damn, I love this army. It's so characterful, so much fun to work on, so much fun to play.

Welcome to the Dark Side.
I was considering starting a LATD army, but I'll wait and see how this pans out first.
(I still contend they wouldn't be nearly as popular with Dan Abnett though! )

Rumors on Warseer (which are starting to get more detailed, btw) say no LatD in the new Chaos codex. However, Brimstone said this earlier today:

"However my previous comments on Legion specific codices appears to have been in error, the new codex contains cult troops and the second codex when it appears will add more flavour to the now generic Daemons and add LatD."

So there's hope for the future, although who knows what the list will look like.

Regarding the present, I am/was building a Genestealer Cult for the Baltimore GT. I thought as long as Mutants and Traitors made the codex, I could shoehorn in the army. But I don't see it happening now. And that's too bad, as it's easily the best looking stuff I've ever done.  Even if it stays legal for November, I'm not looking forward to doing probably 200+ hours more work just to play five GT games and then put the army in a deep freeze until the second codex comes, if at all.

Unless the GW actually says the list is defunct and unusable its still legal, correct?

I figure thats how we could approach it. Look at the Ork codex, its still legal but very old .

Ya know whats really funny?

How everyone associated with GW says how the internet doesnt affect their sales whatsoever.

The three month window basically confirms beyond a resonable doubt that GW has fully admitted in no uncertain terms that the internet does indeed affact their sales.

No one buys old stuff when they know new stuff is coming out. (why should I buy this kewl stuff when I cant use it? There is no rumoured LATD in the new chaos dex!)

How do they find out? Dakka, Warseer, B&C.

What people SHOULD do, is not buy a damned thing unitl they DO release their production schedule, as they are basically saying "We want people to continue to buy our 'Porsches' so that when we invalidate it in three months time, we got a higher income rate because of the idiots that bought our stuff and can no longer use it".

If you think its for anything else, then you really are stupid.

I know I dont buy a damned thing unless:
A) Its a codex thats been recently released and isnt likely to be redone within the forseeable future.
B) I know its a dex thats coming out for certain (i.e. confirmed by GW themselves)

Until they become genuine and release their release schedule for the next year, GW should expect LOWER sales from smart shoppers, not HIGHER sales from stupid shoppers.

Remember, only stupid people buy stuff for an army that might be redone soon and dont observe a moratorium when GW is completly silent regarding their business.

Hmmm. A propa lost and the damned codex would be good, but didn't Jervis say they were sticking to a 15 army limit?
One thing that gets to me about Gw is the lack of any kind of plan. Re-doing chaos three times before Orks is exactly the sort of thing I'm talking about.

Orks are fine. They fall easy to all the assault cannon wielding 12 year olds in the battle bunkers. So GW thinks they are "working as intended." [/flame]

Ever have a look at the example diagrams in the rulebook? You'll tend to see orks getting shot, blown up, and generally dying, and CSM and SM dishing out the pain.
Sometimes it's Tau or Gaurd dying though.

I'm doing A at the moment.  B is too uncertain as to whether what's coming out will be worth it or not.

I do (A) as well.

What I meant by (B) is special model circumstances, either for aesthetics or for uniformity, as two likely examples.

Take our local mod Drake Marcus for example. With the rumours about Orks getting nearly a complete redo in their model range, it is safe to assume that Drake is going to stock up on the '97 models like scrooge mcduck saving every last penny.

Myself, I still need a few things for chaos, such as a dozen more mounted deamonettes and a few more daemonettes. Since I have so many of the metals and they are rumoure to include the clunky crab claws, I am getting as many as I can before its too late. (and I have to pay premium "classic model" prices from GW.)

I have an entire box of stuff just waiting to be LATD... Guard, mutants, bits, daemons, bits, weirdness....

I freaking hate GW more and more each day.

I am dealing with their insanity by playing necromunda. One gang and scratch built terrain. Take that ya corporate nimrods!

Or you can do like I do, and ignore "The jervis Plan" and use what you have already.

The only problem with that it that it isnt sustainable. After a few years, people will have forgotten about that dex and movd on to the most recent.

I feel like HBMC and fight tooth and nail against the changes, atleast until they are proven balanced. But within this edition, changing the status quo so drastically isnt balancing 4th edition, it is simply a test prep for 5th.

"Lets see how the masses react when I do this... *AAAAGGGHHHHH*...ok that was a bit harsh, perhaps next time I wont use the calipers. Lets see what happens when I apply pressure here....*YEEEEOOOOWWWW!!!!!!*....oops! A little too much..."

I spent hours and hours and hours putting together my LatD force. Almost every mutant is built with a specific look and theme and a lot of them have names to fit that theme (Many-Arms McCoy, Death's Head, Lord Grimlock, Screech, The Gimp and The Gimp Mk. II). They incorporate parts from all across the GW range, new and old:

Undead Zombies
Chaos Marauders
Catachans
Cadians
Orks
Plastic Necromunda Orlocks and Goliaths
Scavvies
Chaos Vehicle Sprue
Plastic Genestealer Hybrid Bitz
Tau Fire Warriors

I have a couple of models that contain parts from nearly all of the above, so specific were my conversions. And all 90 of them are about to be made obselete... atleast until we get some dumbed down new version anywhere from 6 months to 6 years from now.

Is it any wonder our group sat down one day and just said 'F**k this' and began the 40K Revisited project, a project that has over 3 years of playtesting and 9 re-written Codices in various stages of development to its name.

If you want any allies out of C: CSM, what do you do?  A good chunk of the new codex will probably interface fine, but there'll be things that won't work.  For instance, what you arm your Asp Champs with when there's no longer an armory?  Perhaps the answer is to allow LatD to use the old C: CSM for their allies, but I have a feeling they'll solve things by just disallowing LatD 30 days after the new codex is released.  If the codex hits in September, that'd mean no LatD for Baltimore.

H.B.M.C., good for you. It's nice to play in a group like that.
I'm not a competitive gamer myself, though I'm interested in starting, so we do stuff like that at times.
We had a house rule that "guess" and ordinace weapons still required guessing of range, as we hated the new way of doing things.

I still consider myself new to the hobby with LatD being my second army after a Khorne Undecided Black Legion list.   About 3 years playing 40k.  So I have only used the rehashed 3rd edition 'dexs to play.  How do they just cancel armies?  Do they just declare them illegal to the Tournies?  Do they send out redshirts that hunt us illegal list players down?

As for the asp champ question, I figure they would still keep asp champs in the new codex right?  They would also have under their entry what they can and can't take, I assume.   Going by that logic, its the same upgrades as before (kinda).  The bosses and agitators get me nervous though.

Maybe I should actually look at other codexes and see how they did the DAs and Eldar.  It will give me a better idea of what is going on.

Actually I don't think GW will say word one about it, keeping everything in a nice limbo. They've already been banned from GW tourneys.

Me, I'd use the current LATD rules, using the allies as preneted in the new codex. If demons are reduced to a generic demon and I want that as an ally in whatever FOC slot then so thats what it is. Same for whatever passes as HQs at that point etc.
