There's quite some glowstone near me, I think. Not enough for all those tunnels, but well, atleast for a part
Problem would be in getting them, though.

Meh, getting glowstone is pretty easy, as long as you do it right.

That's what I meant about "do it right". Aside from wanting fire resistance potions and some basic enchanted iron armor (it's cheap once you're established), you need to build a cradle and wall to catch the glowstone and prevent ghasts from hitting you. Cobblestone is an easy resource to use for this--- build it as a bowl under the glowstone, with walls high enough to block ghast shots. You can leave it there or take it down, though taking it down is better as it leaves less clutter for other people to stumble on to.

That amount of glowstone would probably be prohibitive to collect, but the whole design in general's probably more complex than most users could be bothered to do anyway, so that's probably moot.

Yeah, though the glowstone could be replaced by jack-o-lanterns or lamps fairly easily. Or even just simple glass'n'lava. Or like I said, use the glowstone just at intersections or where the wall sconces don't provide enough light.

Shouldn't be too difficult, especially on this server. Might want to simplify the alcoves a bit, but the roof and walls would be fairly simple, as would the columns. And all the materials are both Netherproof and easy to acquire.

This is for the tunnels and not the hub I'm working on right? I have amassed some clay that you could use and dye is so easily available what with those rose bushes and all being bone meal spammable.

Yes, this is for the tunnels themslves. If they're made of netherbrick and stone rather than other, more rare materials, we don't have to worry about gathering unique resources while building our connecting tunnels. Thus, we can all try to keep it in theme.

for lighting you can also use the plentiful netherrack set on fire. on my wall i use it, with a space for the fire and then a glass block on top. it lights a very nice area and is safe to walk over.

I thought the four main tunnels were just cobble and iron / netherfence?

We're picking a new design.

We figure make the main tunnels HUGE and fancy- They're something everyone's gonna have to look at, so why not put some effort into them? Also, makes it easier to navigate- the big fancy tunnels are main tunnels- they always go back to the Hub. The small branches are always to people's personal portals.

@ DeathKlaat- I do use Netherwrack wall sconces in the alcoves- but we'd either need to have alcoves between each pillar (way more materials, work, and clutters up the look of things) or just plop fire down everywhere to have it light enough- fire doesn't light as much as torches and glowstone, I think.

Whatever the design, it should use netherbrick, stone, stonebrick, cobblestone, and other easily accessible, but durable, materials.

Well, since I'm at least starting the northern tunnel (in the far north, once I get to it from my branch tunnel -- I'm around 2/3 the way there), please LMK the new design.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I'd love to see all the main tunnels in Anvil's design, but it's such huge investment in materials & time. My branch tunnel will join the main tunnel more than 400 blocks from Spawn. A tunnel that is 5x5 internally will use a minimum of 20 blocks of material per block travelled, for a total of 8000 blocks for the northern tunnel alone; 32 000 if we extend all four tunnels as far. Assuming around 50% cobble, 20% netherbrick, 20% cleanstone, and 10% glowstone, that's 250 stacks of cobble, 100 of netherbrick (aka 400 stacks of netherwrack plus 50 stacks of coal), another 100 stacks of cobble and 14 stacks of coal... for, well. again, a herculean quantity of resources...

I could always bring back my thing about giving out the "player head" item(s) of your choice, to those who contribute to a community project like this.

Especially as the following mob heads are now also available:

Might give some incentive for people to help.

I'm going away for a week though, so while I may be able to make promises, I won't be able to deliver until later

I'll think of a suitable tunnel "meters" per head ratio if there's enough interest. I might also consider that chiselled stone brick as rewards as that was enquired about earlier.

The head is cool, but too small to truly honour the Kiip

And aye, setting up our Nether portal is quite a pain, with all dem Ghasts everywhere.

The offer isn't limited to the mob heads, you could ask for any player head, i.e. your own, your friend's, your favourite youtuber's, your nemesis' etc.

Also, on a completely unrelated note, Dark, I neglected to remember that one of my structures in the vanilla server had a significant amount of bookcases in it (AFAIK those are the only 'valuable' things of mine that weren't copied; I can't remember anything that wasn't in my suburbia house chests, so I doubt there was much useful stuff in any other ones), so instead of copying the structure, would I please be able to get a stack of books or so?

I can't remember the exact number of cases I had, but a stack of books is 21, which is likely around that number unless you want to go and total up the true amount. I can grab the wood I need to remake them myself, since I'd have had to do that in the first place if I was re-locating the shelves.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

How about if we agree to the size of the main tunnels (minimum 5x5) and the materials permissible (cobble, stone, stone brick, netherbrick; slabs of all the above; glowstone, netherwrack on fire, netherbrick fence, cobblestone wall, torches, iron bars, and redstone blocks, maybe?), and specify it has to be ghast-proof, but allow whoever's building it to design it according to their preference? That way it should still be very clear that one has found a main tunnel, but there is some individual creativity allowed.

Alternatively, I do like Anvildude's design a lot, but wonder if we couldn't simplify it somewhat as we head further from the Hub? Maybe stick with the Anvildesign for the first 100 blocks out in each direction, then simplify?
