Of course, but if you do no research, you don't have much grounds to be disappointed, unless you like living in a permanently disappointed state.

To use the always inappropriate car industry comparison, you don't buy a new car without first researching not only the officially announced features, but other feedback as well.

Also in regards to the 'storyline' idea.

Tohaa and Aleph HAVE been introduced now, so many do see it as odd that they aren't in the new book, even just as fluff sections.

Its a bit like 40k 3rd edition rulebook when it was released just having the original 2nd edition forces, but making no mention of Dark Eldar, when they were the big new release for that edition.

People expect all the stuff to date that has been made part of the game to be in the most recent core rulebook if its printed after those factions have been released.

Also it would make sense to state Tohaa and Aleph can be found in Human Sphere\Paradiso etc, just making mention of those books would help.

A lot of folks starting the game and getting tohaa were very worried their army was being killed off, its poor business marketing to not have the neon lights on what other things people could be buying from your company etc.

However I am saying all this with a slightly jaunty troll side, as I play Ariadna and Pan -o so my stuff is happy days, but many found it a bit odd after new editions usually meaning clean slate\updates for all.

Closest analogy is a new 40k edition but still on a previous edition codex, but you could still play with that codex. The issue for CB was that Aleph and Tohaa and a lot of other factions stuff had no current costs and special rules updated, making the new edition effectively pointless at time of purchas. If yu want to play N3, not N2.5.

Again I am not whining I am just stating what a lot of local people feel.

They have been introduced in later books. The core rulebooks narrative arc takes place before Alephs armed forces were known and before the Tohaa revealed themselves. It makes no sense considering the narrative material to include them, even as fluff.

Note that Aleph is in there, like it was in the second edition book, as a small fluff peice describing what it is. Nothing, however, about the A.S.S or O.S.S, as they weren't at that point of the storyline known.

That's a bad example, because Games Workshop aren't creating a narrative arc with 40k. The fluff is stagnant, and has been for over 20 years. They expand sideways, adding new races and characters to the current background, but not much further. 40k is a setting, and while Infinity is a setting as well, CB are actually telling a progressing story with Infinity.

And I'm just saying, 5 minutes in google would have answered those questions a month before they pre ordered the book.

Or, like you said, if you knew like you said you did, you could have let them in on your little secret.

No need for the last line in that post tbh

I had an idea that some stuff may not be in the book, which I assumed to be stat lines for stuff that was newly released while book was being made.

As I don't play Aleph or Tohaa and didn't realise the ARMY 4 was being superceeded it didn't bother me.

One of the First N3 things shown off a good bit ago was the new profile for the Tohaa Makriel, or however its spelled and the Aleph Daysus. Makes it clear enough to me they wouldnt be killed off, plus anyone who plays the armies and has the internet should realise that they have recent releases for both armies.

As for your store owner getting pissed for digital, it does suck, but what he should be doing it preorder prepay and just not do returns unless its actually badly damaged or something. Thats what ours does and has no problems.

My slip cover its pretty sturdy and I like paperback far more then hardback

I've never thought it was a matter of knowing what stuff was going into what book.

The stupidity in question is CB's stupid choice not to consolidate books for a new edition.

It is a general assumption for the entire industry, and for many things in existence, that when you release a new edition you consolidate the rules to enable a smoother transition, and provide a better jumping off point for new players.

All the fanboys constantly putting people down for "not knowing" is trying to use a smoke grenade on the really stupid move. Trying to put the blame on reasonable questions and criticisms based on the more reasonable assumption of consolidation.

Most people roll better on their ARO to discern that fact.

For as much as you might get annoyed by people asking about, or bringing out the lack of consolidation, it's way more annoying to see you fanboys go for the throat of anyone who dares question CB's decision.

What ever happened to that special Joan of Arc if you preorder the paint book? I cant find any art on it and want to know if its worth waiting or grabbing one of her already out versions.

Spoiler:

Note that it's been confirmed that Joan will have a normal release. The Giraldez book mini will simply be a unique pose only. Due to digital sculpting, both the special and normal releases will essentially be the same scupt but in different poses.

Thanks for the pic! I hope she is a Jan release considering Giraldez book is printing in Jan (according to his facebook)

How about we take the complaints about N3 down to the sub-forums and stop derailing the news thread with it.

In a few months this will all be an unpleasant memory.
We'll have consolidated rules & errata for HS & Paradiso in PDFs, updated army lists, a functioning wiki & Army builder 5 all free to use.

Yeah GW made a hardcover tome that's super nice for the same-ish price, but any PDFs or tools you're using to supplement that are violating marketing scheme.

It's a raw deal to brick & mortar stores when people renege on expensive pre-orders. Gotta get a deposit, but also make sure people fully understand CB will provide rules for free.

Eh, what's done is done. I'm just more tired and annoyed at people jumping at anyone who brings up the question.

It's the kind of new player blaming of attitude that drives people away from the hobby, instead of helping to grow it.

I'm disappointed in the content and quality of N3 compared to pretty much every other rulebook set I own or know of tbh. Feel ripped off at £40 let alone the full asking price.

Not yet, but we don't usually have a release schedule until the first week of the month.

Plus they might just be too swamped getting things in order.

As it stands though, if I were to make an educated guess?
-Teucer(ALEPH)
-Hac Tao Hacker(YJ)
-A special weapons box for either Nomads(although apparently the Alguaciles are suffering production issues--y'know, because it was mentioned on a Spanish podcast by Bostria ) or a special weapons box for the new Unidron Batroids for Combined Army

Potentially though? We might just see the PanO and Nomad starters from Icestorm finally released by themselves.

One thing most of us in our club we run agree on, the fact that Tohaa and Aleph and some rules from human sphere weren't in the N3 book (and we know the reasons why) was a poor decision as a lot of people are asking us older players why they have to buy old books to play a new edition.

Also the PDF's not being ready at the same time was a missed goal too, again we know why and we aren't whining, it just made the release seem very hap hazard and not joined up.

It will all sort itself out by Feb, but a lot of people are put off the game because of the faffing about at release.

 -Loki- wrote:
Not many would disagree, but I can definitely see the difference. The PDF for the rules is just the same PDF that was sent to the printers for the Rulebook part of the set, just with some lower quality imagery to bring the size down.

The overall army list PDFs are the complete rebalancing of the game. I'd much prefer they take their time on that.

Could someone clarify for me, as I am a Tohaa player - can I go ahead and start making lists with confidence for N3, or is there an update to our army lists coming via PDF?

I'm getting my commissioned Tohaa models back in early January, so am looking forward to playing N3 but don't want to start making lists if the profiles / etc are about to change.

You're getting an update to your army list via PDF.

We don't know how much/what will change for Tohaa; it might just be minor things or it might be huge alterations.

Changes to the basic rules have done more to change army lists than revisions to the lists themselves. WBs will be used differently, HI are more mobile, camp troops see significant changes, etc...

I can't imagine aleph & tohaa will look significantly different.

As you make lists up before any mission, id use the N2 profiles from Mayanet or Aleph Box (or even their own army builder and print em) and play games.

The biggest hing that changed with Tohaa was the Zero Smoke. Since MSV2 sees right through it, you cant just toss tons of smoke around as you could in N2. Might be replaced with Numbis.

Eitherway id get games in with the new rules as the changes to armies will be very minor

By the way, Battlefoam now offers their Infinity bag with a custom loadout option. You all can thank me for this , as I sent them like a dozen emails and had a few phone calls persuading them about this in the summer, and asked them to talk to Corvus Belli at GenCon about it... soon thereafter, my friend was able to order a bag with a custom loadout!

Unfortunately, it didn't happen in time for me, and I had already ordered the standard loadout plus all the extra trays

Anyway, just FYI:

http://us.battlefoam.com/categories/Infinity-Bags-and-Foam/Bags/

I think these bags work best by far with the "horizontal" loadout (with which you put in more smaller trays). All the locals prefer them this way with the thicker trays (2" preferably) so that models can sit in the bags standing up as they would normally, instead of laying down in the foam.

One of the local Infinity players said he's the person in charge of making Army5.

Hope this rumor is true, he seems like a good source!

I thought they stopped making the official army builder for Infinity ever since CB released their own official one.

Before everyone explodes into talk about the N3 profiles that we're awaiting, have these been seen/reported?

They're 2mo old, but I don't recall anyone talking about them on this thread. People on Instagram are wild guessing the first to be Aleph. Doesn't look like Teucer, though.

At the time I assumed the 2nd one was a CA Batroid, but their crotches don't look like that...

No clue what the first one is. Looks like a boot or foot.
