He looks fantastic, Rawson, well done. Can I make one final suggestion? Nothing major but I think that a very fine sprinkling of your base gravel on the top of the sprue/bricks and on the top of the decking would tie all your basing elements together. Otherwise, jsut stand there and admire him ) me, I ain't got time to admire him, got 400 points worth of Elysians to paint for a patrol competition in 4 weeks!! Help!!
Btw, where's the competition being held that your entering him for?

Thanks for the compliments, Butchy! I'm really happy how he turned out (except how his glove looks in the final photograph ) Your earlier CC on the base was really helpful! Now that the compitition is over (or will be in about 2hrs10min) I can think about final details in a calm environment

rawson i expected better from you . nah, everything looks fine really like the purity seal feather thing fluff wise he looks like a young commander (hardly any grey) but it looks awesome so all and all good job now on to new stuff!

Great question, guys. I'm in Stockholm right now for work, but I'll have some time when I return on Tuesday evening. I certainly have a lot of unfinished models floating about: roughriders, airborne squad, standard bearer, HWTs, troops, a leman russ, etc. I supposed I should finish some of those things...

Okay, I promise I will get an update up today. I promise!

Well, I promised an update tonight, and far be it for me to break that promise.

Not so much work going on these last few weeks, I had lost most of my motivation somewhere in the morass of life. To regain it, I tried to get a little perspective and vision for the Vostroyans. Hence, I unpacked everything that I had (well, everything that was inspiring, at least) and put it on the table. And voila!

It actually worked quite well, both as a motivator and get an accurate idea of just how much painting I have left to do
I worked some on the squad on the left. Right now they are the bane of my existence. I got them second hand off of eBay, stripped them, and repainted them. Of course, the stripping didn't go as well as hoped, and a lot of the detail is lost. I plan on spending as little amount of time as possible to get them to tabletop standard, especially now that I have 4 brand spanking new squads waiting for me back in the States.

I've got the horses for the roughriders primed and based and three preliminary colors that I plan on working with. Codex Grey, Kommando Khaki, and Bleached Bone.

These are just basecoats, so all three will get progressively lighter. I wanted white horses, but at the same time, I didn't want them all to look exactly the same. Thus, start with three rather light colors and build from there. I was doing a little bit of research today online for the color schemes for the manes and other possible markings. I haven't quite figured out what color to paint the saddle blankets. I'm thinking red would be too much, given that that is the primary color of the roughriders garb. Any other thoughts?

Now that Unluckyguardsman has started another painting/modeling contest, I'm going to have to come up with another entry. If only I could figure out what it should be...

Always a good idea to get the troops on parade when your stuck for motivation. Did that the other day with my Blood Angels, completely distracted me from my Elysian-styled Drop Troops and stripping paint from various older models and a second hand old school Predator ) Always good to get a perspective )
I love the muzzle brake on the Baneblade; is that part of the kit?

Why not reverse the colours of the Company Banner; white with a red trim? That may clash with your horses being white but if they were greys, it might actually contrast nicely

I replaced the normal baneblade barrel end with the hellhammer cannon, so, technically, yes it is part of the kit

Good question. I had that one set of outrider legs that I Vostroyanified, but I haven't decided yet. At least 4 will be the standard roughrider legs. I'm planning on adding more roughriders someday, so I will probably just use the attilan legs and save the outrider ones for later...

well there's the answer to your query; build and paint a Roughrider figure for the competition! Be good to see a really well built, converted and painted Rough Rider (no pressure, eh? D )

After much deliberation (and contemplating a roughrider entry) I've finally decided what I shall enter in the contest: The Vostroyan Sniper Sergeant!




Based on the Vostroyan vox operator with a few not so difficult conversions. It's almost like a metal kitbash...

The easy part was adding the moustache. I mean, come on. What self respecting Vostroyan walks around without a moustache?

And a few bits from the Vostroyan snipers blister: the backpack with camo netting and the long las barrel make for a sweet sniper! He actually works pretty well since he lacks the ubiquitous furry hat, the same as the other Vostroyan snipers.

I'm planning on my first attempt at OSL with the auspex hanging from his belt. Hope you enjoy him!

I too like the use of the hellhammer cannon on the end of the baneblade's cannon- I have several times considered going back and retrofitting it as such, but maybe next baneblade (which as every tread head knows, it's just a matter of time). Still some very nice Vostroyans! Though not my favourite army, I still like a variation from the standard Cadian Imperial force.

thats a tough looking sergeant you got there buddy i think if your snipers did have hats it would be those crazy ones with ear flaps like what you have on your ogryns. just a thought or two for ya...but i say dont worry about that hat in mother vostroya real men need no hats

Thanks for the compliments! While they are a mechnanized unit, I think it will be a while before I pick up another super-heavy. She makes a nice centerpiece and I have a few more other things to acquire first. Like more than one chimera...

He's based off of the vox operator from the Vostroyan Command Squad with some conversions thrown in. You can check out the GW site and see a stock one...

The men on Vostroya who wear no hats also have no ears because of frostbite

I built my Baneblade with the Hellhammer muzzle brake on the barrel too.

or even better a female vostryan commissar RSJAKE makes a damn fine female commissar might want to check him out if you dont wanna scratch build

That's something I've thought about before, but Commissars always come from a different world than the units that they are attached to. I think it would be more along the lines of the problem I had with the ogryn: how to make a non-Vostroyan unit (or in this case, person) tie into the rest of the army. I've thought about picking up a steel legion commissar because of the gas mask (it ties into the Vostroyans with the masks, I guess). The biggest thing is that I don't have any Commissars in my army list right now, and I'm trying to get this army playable. I've heard rumors of an upcoming combat patrols tournament at the FLGS. I definately have 500 points...
